In the prince fan's world any decision that prince makes that the fan would not is a bad decision. Many of the fans egos seem more out of control then Prince. U don't have to like it but to term it a poor decision makes no sense. Obviously Prince can only satisfy himself because for every 100 fans there are 100 different decisions they would have made. The self-centeredness of the fans is really a problem.

I finally broke down and got this book. I tried to hold out, but didn't want to "miss out".

I haven't opened it yet though. I have to say I'm in no hurry to open it and listen to the CD. confused

I think that 'Indigo Nights' is the best Prince album since 'The rainbow children'. I know it's live, but it's awesome and better that his recent studio work.

U said it, Unique, nicely put. Eye will say it my way: If U R Analretentive, review is just the boiwaste of such. Its an Aftershow taping where theyR Jammin'. Try this: Put on a Blue Lit, open a bottle of YR fav. bubbly, put the CD on & enjoy it in the manner as it was mesant 2 B----as if U wood have the right 2 B there.

Man, I've read all these negative comments whilst listening to the CD. Are you guys crazy? I'm really dismayed by people who cannot hear the muisicianship on this CD. Its an aftershow! Not a new studio album! Atershows do contain jams and covers and those who are lucky enough to go to these LOVE it. Some of you sound like spoilt kids. I've got to say I'm loving this CD for what it is. A little taste of some of that aftershow madness. I'm not going to say its his best album ever, but I really don't understand all the dissing. 'Baby Love' is on right now with Shelby nailing it. How can you complain about that! If you can't enjoy this, I suggest you stay away from any Prince aftershows in the future! He didn't have to give us anything. Remember that.

I liked the idea of enclosing a CD with the book. A souvenir for concert attendees.
I think he should release CD recordings of his concerts.

By the way I love all the songs.

INDIGO NIGHTS - DOES NOT DO P JUSTICE, DOESNT SHOW HOW GOOD HIS SHOWS WERE

Hi,

I have to say I was very disappointed with the Indigo Nights CD.
Some of the versions of the songs sound too electronic and tacky (3121)(Renato...grrr), there is no coherence to them, some of the songs on the tracklist are just a few lines not complete songs (which is a big fan bugbear from ONA Live).
Compared to the excellence of the main shows that I heard and witnesses, this is a real disappointment.

I decided to search for a concert boot online of one of the concerts I went to. All i can say is EXCELLENT, whole songs, great crowd noise, feeling of excitement and electric which is missing on the Indigo Nights CD. There was also a wide tracklist of songs he hasnt released live before. Pink Cashmere and Black Sweat Live I have to say were the highlights to me.

Indigo nights is a wasted opportunity - P played 150 songs for the concerts, why on earth release covers that he didn't write and a tracklist that is similar to ONA Live Aftershow (how many times do we need to hear Whole Lotta Love)?

VERDICT: A 2 CD main show concert should have been released along with a DVD (does anyone remember that excellent clip on 3121 com of Joy In Repetition Live?). That would have been the bomb and would have done Prince justice as the brilliant musician that he is.
All this cd has done is give a reason to look for boots.
If Prince wants to get rid of the bootleggers, he should release the best stuff himself!

Its as if hes lost the idea of what fans would like (perhaps this is where a manager or good adviser would be ideal)

Don't get me wrong, I'm no hater, I hardly ever criticise him (why would I, he's an inspiration) however its just frustrating as hes almost selling his talent short.

it is not an album, just a sketch of the fun he had while playing London and I suppose that's what it was meant as.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. thats EXACTLY what it is.

Its a good representation of what we experienced, and nothing can replace actually feelin it there.

As a cd supporting a book and an historic event. Its very good, I love it.

The music is fab and I love that he included all his funny stuff, cock-eyed woman is too funny and the crowd loved it.

Its probably very surprising to people who havent seen him live at an aftershow as its so chalkncheese from a stadium gig.

I hope loads of people get this for christmas and learn again the hunger to see prince live. Aftershows is where its at.

I feel priveledged to have been there and feel as though we were treated special. this release confirms that he had fun those nights and now the world can share it too.

oooohhhhh that guitar!!!!!

I think the cd represents far better what prince is about than any commercially led album. Its freeform, funky and about havin fun with sound.

I wish he'd release more of this stuff.

Anyone who didnt like Planet earth should get a listen of this, ooh did I mention the guitar!?

I think ur right there, some parts of the cd work well with my memory but would be better to the uninitiated with video. Its hard to really appreciate what he was doing in some parts,in particular the comedy it would have been nice to see his actions. but yu cannot deny the guitar playin on this cd.

i also would liked to have heard a little more crowd noise. but its one i will listen to over and over, theres so much to hear.

Okay, I finally have time to write my review of the cd. I've read a lot of negative feedback and I have to wholeheartedly disagree with them all.

First of all, it's always a good sign to me when I have the urge to play it again and again in my car. I totally enjoy this CD. Here are my highlights:

Misty Blue - Shelby Johnson: if I could ever convince anyone to get this cd its to hear Shelby's version of this song. it almost brings me to tears. she is freaking awesome.

All the Critics - This version is SLAMMIN! I love it.Especially towards the end when Maceo gets on it. Brilliant.

Delirious - It's amazing how Prince can take a classic done so many years ago and give it new life, like it did with All the Critics Love You. I love how he broke it down and when into his story telling. I could imagine what it was like to be there in person.

Whole Lotta Love - Love the guitar work.

Satisfied - this is one of my favorite songs, and I really like how Prince brings in that church sermon vibe with Morris Hayes and use of the hornz section. My only critic, and I don't know how to word this since i'm not a musician, is that on some notes the hornz held it too long. like when they all hit that beat and then Prince says, "its gonna be a long night". i'm probably not making sense but anyway.

Get on the Boat - Renato is my man on this one, i really like the keys on this one.

So all in all it definately gets a thumbs up from me. It's a really cool cd! cool

Just got my book this morning and am listening to the CD for the first time! It rocks!!!!!

I really dig "3121", "Girls & Boys" and "Rock Steady" (which is as far as I've listened as I write this).

The disc definately captures the indigo vibe. I was at 3 of the indigo shows last year and I'm happy with how this came out!

The poor crying baby is you here seeking for attention. You do not express an opinion. You STATE that those who like Indigo Nights are fans who like anything from Prince. Your comment shows how arrogant and narrow minded you are.

I have no problem with peope who do NOT like Indigo Nights (I do not give a shit ) but I have problems with those who come up with comments like :
The musicianship on this cd is horrible
Prince shows no passion on this cd
if you like Indigo Nights, you like any crap coming from Prince
etc

I finally opened the book and ripped the CD . . . it's "ok"; there are some great parts and some not-so-great parts (not unusual for a Prince release).

I am glad I bought it, even if it doesn't get much airplay after the initial few weeks.

I ordered this last week from amazon, and to be quite frank was not expecting it so quick, it arrived tuesday´, but due to my absence, was left with a neighbour, so finally I got it yesterday afternoon. I was quite surprised at the size, but that is neither here nor there.

I had two reasons for getting this book, 1. being that i had been to 9 mainshows and 6 aftershows of 21 nights. 2. being that i was at both the aftershows contained in the cd.

I had decided "or maybe I just dont come here that often anymore" not to read reviews till I actually listened to the CD, but ended up doing both at the same time. That was admittedly, after struggling to get the CD out of the book, and yes, it had some resistant bits on it.

Listening to the cd for the first time in conjunction with reading the reviews here, was one of the most negative experiences I have ever had listening to a Prince CD first time. I wished i had not been so lazy and had actually ripped all these tracks together from my boots and compared them instead. However, it was a learning experience.

Although I think, the boots to be of very good quality, especially compared to that of the stuff i used to get in the late 80´s, this cd really show´s there is gulf in the quality of a boot and an official recording. Begs the question why Prince does not release such music officially more often, like Pearl jam or Tori Amos, he certainly would make a fortune from it, and naturally keep alot of us very happy.

As for the CD itself, I can understand some of the negative comments about it, I was on first listen very sceptical about it, many of the songs are cut and fail to capture the real atmosphere. However, on a second listen, I found it very refreshing and it brought back some good memories.

It is by no means a classic, "it aint over" was not either, but it has its moments, like 3121, The One and I would almost mention the Critics, but it is too short. To be fair, it comes no where near classics like the aftershows of holland 88 or even the 28th show at indigo.

But, it is a nice momento for the summer of 2007 and it aint every day you can say you have witnessed a show (or 2) which is officially released.

BTW, why are there so few comments from those that actually witnessed these shows, I am sure you are far better at explaining these things than me wink
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.
