i listened to this a few days ago lurking lol. i played it for a bit in my car on the way home from purchasing it. there was little pieces of stuff stuck to the back of the disc from the book. it skipped a few times. can't tell if it's the cd or the fact that it's the first time my car cd player has had a "real" cd (other than bootlegs and blank cds lol) in a while giggle. will play it on my home player later. if it's faulty, it's going back neutral. some jams on it. i've heard most of this material already (bootlegs lurking), but the sound quality is obviously better here cool. i still want a new cd though...soon dead lol.

My cd has something stuck on it, sort of looks like a dot of glue. I can't get it off either. But I ripped mine to my computer and listened to it and it sounded ok. I think I'm going to play the cd a couple times to make sure it doesn't interfere with anything.

My only criticism of "Indigo Nights" and "ONA...The Aftershow" is that they're not filled to the rim with funky, extended instrumental jams, rather than regular, structured songs.

this is par for the course when prince puts out something new.

you have one extreme group who will defend anything prince does and takes criticism of his work as a personal offense.

you have another extreme group who will razz anything prince does and condemn it for not sounding like glory-days WB material.

then you have that struggling squeak in the middle - those people who actually do try to keep their famdom in check and who try their best to listen with an objective ear. you can usually identify these people, because they often temper their comments with a positive AND a negative, as they're not out from the get-go to worship or condemn the music just because prince created it.

i think criticism is fine, even if you find you don't like the album very much at all. like huey said earlier, there are different types of fans. some like earlier work. some like more recent work. some like the stuff in the middle. some like prince's rock sounds. some like his soul sounds. some just want funk. i could go on and on about "specialized" prince fans, cuz there are dozens of varieties out there...and hey, if they get what they want from what they appreciate in prince, then god bless 'em.

my general view of criticism is that other people's opinions - even "professional" critics - should be taken with a grain of salt. the only person's opinion that matters in the end is your own. everyone's different. just because someone takes something in differently than you do doesn't make them wrong or you right. you're just different people. maybe in some of these comments you'll find some kindred sensibilities. maybe not. it's interesting to read other people's reflections, and it shouldn't be taken as anything more crucial than that. there are bigger things in the world to stress over, y'know?

Your logical thinking will not be tolerated here!! Knee jerk reactions, famisms, and flaming posts only!!

Can u tell me how many songs were on the cd? Also was it a single cd or were there 2? A picture of the cover if that is allowed. I'm sorry but I don't know if I'm allowed to ask should have ckd first. The reason I'm asking is because of something I happened upon after the concerts. Wish I was able to share other photos. Thanking u in advance

I immediately put in in my "not to play" pile. Unfortunate. But it just rambles. For as short as it is, I'd like to hear some singing and playing. Instead a lot of it is vamps, jams and prostheletizing. If you're going to drop live, wouldn't it be great if he released a set that shows his skill? And who cares about gut bucket singing Shelby or the audience filling in on songs? I mean she's ok...but so what? Not really a great representation of what Prince can do. Even the guitar work on "Whole Lotta Love" is predictable. I've never heard a boot of any of the material ahead of time. He's GOT to have better material from that whole run. Right?

Listening to the CD right now. It's nothing spectacular, but like listening to any live Prince, it makes me really, really, really wish that he would do a regular tour so I could have a chance to see him.

I already know that he is a fabulous musician. I kind of like it when he talks in the middle of songs. I like to hear what he sounds like and the things he says when he's just talking. I think it's interesting.

Oh that's definately what's happened to a lot of people here. I laugh when people come here and say, "Prince needs to release the stuff from the Vaults or release the boots officially". Well, Prince just released, well an official bootleg with this CD and look at the results. People are jumping for joy aren't they? lol

If Prince released a boot like "The Dance Electric" and didn't edit it at all, people here will STILL find something wrong with it. That's because they've had it for 10 or more years and they don't and won't appreciate it once Prince has done something with it. Prince will NOT win with his fans, even if he does everything the fans want him to do. You can take that to the BANK!

I'm sorry but the entire middle section of the CD has shitty music. Are Song of the Heart, Delirious, and Just Like U even songs? Why waste tracks on these "songs?" Wouldn't you like to hear the live version of I Like It There, Empty Room, or Chaos and Disorder instead? Prince played many better songs during the aftershows, but included some of the worst material (again). It doesn't make sense.

ya know, when i listened to the indigo nights CD for the first time, it felt like a snapshot of the experience of a prince aftershow. it's not a "you are there!" experience, it's not a testament to the greatness of prince's best-ever moments on stage, it's not even an eye-popping batch of rarely played songs for the diehards to fam out over. it's just something to listen to while you're flipping through the book.

a lot of the book's theme has to do with the whole nocturnal/late night lifestyle prince is famous for. so a disc of aftershow recordings would be a cool accompaniment for a book called "21 nights". the shows and the general trip are catalogued in the book, the aftershows are on the CD. the whole thing is a keepsake/memento of the 21 night london residency, nothing more.

i get it. if it were meant to be more of an auspicious musical undertaking, perhaps i'd want to judge it more harshly. but i don't think it's meant to be the musical event of the year. it's just a CD meant to accompany a book, and i think it's fine for what it is. i'm not overwhelmed by it, but i wasn't expecting to be. shrug

i enjoyed 'girls & boys' and i was entertained by the little rant afterwards. i think the tracklisting is weird on the CD, though. instead of listing "song of the heart" and "delirious", the whole thing should have had one title or been listed as a medley. if i didn't know as much about prince, i would be really confused trying to match those song titles up with what i was hearing.

Sorry for Sooo much Negativity! I'm sure Prince has learned to avoid such Negative Vibes! I'm sure it it Awesome as many have stated! Prince is sharing a Great Gift with us-Be Thankful! He dosn't have to-but I think he still does-because he know's there are some of us out here who do know how to appreachiate his Music for what it is-without dissecting it for our own reasons-He knows he'll never Please everyone always & that we'll all percieve different music at different levels at different points in our Lives-So in consideration of Prince & others-I ask for consideration-as if Prince were Your Immediate Family member-Yes!- Be constructive! but not just Nasty-as there are too many other things todo in Life than that! Just my 2 cents!

Indigo Nights is Prince having fun jamming with fellow musicians, acting a fool and putting a big ole smile on my face. music
For the life of me I just don't understand why some here are so angry and bitter, but I really don't care.
Thank you Prince for being you. A unique, one of a kind musician who's still crazy after all these years. headbang

Received mine today and on first playing was a bit dissapointed. However, three times in now and its growing on me. Favourites for me are Satisfied and ? of U/The One. Love all the references to London 'Funky London'

It certainly takes me back to that fantastic summer of 2007 and if i close my eyes I can see him there on that Indigo stage.

One thing that would have made it better .....It should have been a DVD !!

We're never satisfied are we !
so, what is the answer 2 the question of U

DISAGREEMENTS AS USUAL BUT ONE THING WE CAN PROBABLY AGREE UPON IS TAHT THE TRACKLIST IS VERY DISAPOINTING. I MEAN, 2 SHELBY SONGS, COVERS AND 2 PRINCE SONGS THAT WERE ALREADY IN THE ONA AFTERSHOW DISC IS A VERY POOR CHOICE

I had the book in my hands yesterday (and a perfect specimen, not a scratch or scuff on it) and couldn't buy it. Now THAT is saying something, because not too long ago I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Judging by the reviews, not sure if I will pick it up. The collector in me wants it, but my instincts say that I'll regret it (and so will my wallet). I don't even want the book! I just want the music.

And - just my opinion - I predict a multi-disc DVD or CD also chronicling this event. That is why this "free" CD does not have prime songs on it . . . he's saving it for later.

I heard he is looking for a outlet to put all his videos on next nod That will be hott. But Yall will complain anyway ;disbelief:

Listened to the cd up until Delerious this morn'ting and I was jammin while Ironing. I don't expect anything from Prince other than for him to be himself, just like all musicians. They are never going to do what i want them to. Janet didnt, Madonna...did lol Michael didnt and i will never expect Prince too.

You guys already KNEW the tracklist LONG time ago, why are you acting suprised? I look at this as a small bonus to the book which I was very very appreciative of. You guys ... if this was a bootleg ALL YALL would be drooling over it.

Well I received my book/CD in the mail last night and I've listened to about maybe half of the CD and I have to admit, it's kinda boring lol. I really enjoyed 3121, Girls and Boys and the rants. It was funny hearing him say "Michael Jackson" on the disc for some reason. I just got a kick out of that lol After that, it started to lose my attention and by the time I got to the Shelby songs, I fell asleep and I had my headphones on. I had a long day too, so all of that combined did a number on me lol When I start it up again, I will be at the "Indigo Nights" song.

I have to agree with Anxiety's assessment of the CD. It's a CD that fits with the book. I'm not calling the book boring like I am the CD but it does fit the vibe, very dark, late night-ish. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by the CD cause I'm not all into Aftershow CD's. I'm more into studio albums. One thing's for sure, the future of my time as a fan of Prince's is not determined by this CD lol. It's a CD from gigs throughout the 21 Nights he spent in London. Not for nothing, I'm glad I got it so that it helps with my collection and I don't feel like I wasted money on this AT ALL. This set as a whole is great and I'm thankful that Prince thought about doing this at all considering what's happened in the last year since the residency. I hope more people enjoy the CD and maybe if I play it more, I'll enjoy it more too. If not, then that's cool too. I'll wait for the next CD. smile

My review of INDIGO NIGHTS.

This cd isn't for fans who listen to tons of boots.I think the problem of people being dissappointed is there ears are used to the raw sounding, crowd hearing vibe of the boots. This cd might as well have been a recording of songs
done in the studio with the band and overdubbed.Nothing wrong with that but when people know that PRINCE IS AN AMAZING LIVE PERFORMER and when he delivers this one tends to be let down.Me personally I think the cd for what it is is fine. "3121" is a particular highlight.Great great horn arrangement.Spectacular New Orleans style riffs.Perfect."SATISFIED" is a nice change of pace. The one tune I was most disappointed in was the WHOLE LOTTA LOVE instrumental. This guitar tone sounds like the STUDIO version of FURY.Bad.Don't compare this cd to SMALL CLUB or LOVESEXY '88.A good comparison would be like the THE WAR cd or JAM OF THE YEAR sample cassette.Overall I though the songs were ok.5 out of 10 score for me.

You said something so vitally important and it's not taking Prince so seriously. I have my views of the CD from what I've heard of it but life and death is not wrapped up in this CD and I take it for what it is. Some people are acting like it's the end of the world and it's friggin hilarious. lol lol

After a couple of listens to this cd, I must say it is pretty good. It is DEFINITELY NOT "It Ain't Over". I especially like "3121". This version of this song solidifies why I am a Prince fan. I can't say that for the rest of the album (especially the Shelby songs), but it is good.
