BTW You've got to listen to the real thing, not the mp3s circulating out there.
the experience is not comparable at all !

Regarding the obsessive bootlegers collectors, you'll never be satisfied. But I will never understand how you can take any pleasure in listening to these awful recording of aftershows. This is not music to me.
As soon as something becomes official it is not the same :
when the black album was released, some suddenly did not like the cd anymore.

I have been to numerous aftershows as well last year (and many for the last 25 years !) and the cd symbolizes very well what the aftershows were all about.

I was really disappointed by It ain't over (apart from Joy in repetition !) but this time, this cd kills.

Again, listen to the real cd, not the compressed mp3. The sound is organic, it is so good, so funky. Love it !

You are so right. I have never heard such a difference in format. The CD is brilliant. The guitar on Whole Lotta Love, sounds like live guitar. That is so rare. Buy the CD, Buy the CD. Or..emm.. get the CD free, Buy the Book, Buy the book!.

Just received the book and CD today! I'm LOVING it, I really don't understand the negativity around this at all, and it's obviously meant as a 'thank you', 'reminder' and 'tribute' to the people who attended the O2 last year, and especially the aftershows. It's just a 'taster' of the fun we all had, some great jams and a little of this and a little of that! I guess you just had to BE there to really appreciate it! I love Shelby J's songs too, she's a very cool, lovely and talented lady. She's got so much energy and really added a lot to the shows last year. She gave me a great big smile too, so I've got a soft spot for her. Very, very cool! cool Thanks Prince biggrin

PS Such great musicianship, and so much talent in such a small venue, I'd call it the best value for money I've EVER had, and the CD shows just a little of what went down. It was a just an amazing party ya'll! wink

PPS I've just read my post and I think I'm acquiring some kind of strange 'American accent' confused lol wink

Completely agree, he really captured the spirit of the shows. ! love it!
biggrin thumbs up!

i have to agree. the sound of the actual cd is very nice. the mp3s missed
some of the quality and the depth of the physical cd.

As a longtime die-hard fan, this disc sounds like yet another maddening move by Prince. Why can't he deliver a disc full of the fantastic live Prince songs he performed during 21 nights? Who is Shelby J? And who cares? This has always been one of the things about Prince that baffles me and pisses me off - his poor decision-making when it comes to the records he releases.

In the prince fan's world any decision that prince makes that the fan would not is a bad decision. Many of the fans egos seem more out of control then Prince. U don't have to like it but to term it a poor decision makes no sense. Obviously Prince can only satisfy himself because for every 100 fans there are 100 different decisions they would have made. The self-centeredness of the fans is really a problem.

I really like this CD. It is funky, its got horns, its got guitar, its got humor and it showcases another singer... Small club had the spotlight shared as well, not comparing the two, but I really don't mind Shelby in here at all.

The jokes that you mentioned some time ago are right there on this CD. I just love the way he tells his jokes. He's the yummiest of Kitty Kitties and Honey-Bunnies! rabbit pussy sexy
I loved the sampler of the wonderful time you all had in London. I appreciate how Prince does things his own way. Love the originality. guitar

its probably "the entertainer." (scott joplin) but this version of 3121 also contains bits of "alexander's ragtime band" (irving berlin) and "music music music" (baum/weiss)

ok...i've been researching this for an hour...I think i'm close but I'm tired...imma just ask. At the end of 3121, Greg Boyer plays a line of music that appears in a cartoon that I love. The 2 Gopher's in Merri Melodies or Looney Tunes...not sure which. Their names are Mac and Tosh...they're 2 gophers who conspire to steal the farmers radishes or summin like that. They have theme music and Greg plays it at the end of 3121. Anyone know the name of the song. I looked on the credits and I don't think it's there.

gawd...this is killing me...I thought I had it...but so close=so far

thought it was a toss up between "In a Little Red Barn (on a Farm Down in Indiana)," "Powerhouse," or "Love Ya." Alas...it wasn't ANY of those three. sad

it's nice, espec 3121 & beggin woman.
it's not a 'serious' album, just a selection of stuff he obviously really liked..
i think it's really nice how he's used the oppotunity 2 credit the other artists who feature ( altho the shelby j chanting & 'a new star is born' a bit cringy)

How did the performances at the Brits, Alma awards and Superbowl do anything but raise profile, regenerate interest and lead to selling out the O2 for 21 nights. These are awesome achievements. I agree the ONA DVD was disappointing, but hey, the box set was great.

Do you think there were no tracks from Aug 28th as he's holding them back for later release? The CD could go on the cover of 'Guitar Player' magazine. It could be their last ever issue, because once you've listened that baby, there ain't nothing else you need to know!

Your idea about putting that specific night´s CD on the cover of Guitar Player is a great idea and would make a lot of readers change their biased minds about Prince and help them realize what he´s truly about.

Now, the other thing , about wasted opportunities...you´re right about the performances you mentioned above, no disagreement there, those were great...however, I think he could have done the ONA tour a bit more justice by releasing a better DVD and I also didn´t like the box set that much, though it was pretty okay. I meant wasted opportunities like some albums containing not so great music or lyrics, or both, or playing the same old songs over and over again, often rearranged so drastically that I don´t even like the song anymore ( go go go, go go go .,...let´s go craaaaazy.....anyone ? )
Also , the sampler session during the O2 shows was another wasted or poorly planned thing. Why butcher your own songs or only play little teasers if there are thousands of people who have come to hear those precious, classic and wonderful songs ? Why ruin a perfect song like When Doves Cry by just fooling a bit around with it ?
I could list more things but this is pretty much it, in a nutshell.
I think he´s still a great musician who still has great lyrics and music inside of him , and some of the songs on TRC and 3121 were proof of that, but the either too cryptic or too offensive or just too halfhearted lyrics ruined the potential for me, but that´s just my opinion.
If he were truly washed up,I wouldn´t be complaining, really.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I listened to the cd yesterday, while slowly flipping through the pages, drinking my Prince daily dose. I think the renditions of those songs are very good indeed. Highlights being '3121', 'Beggin' woman blues', 'Misty blue' and 'The one' (I like the overture and ending from 'The question of U').

I absolutely LOVE this CD!! I've listened to it over about 6 times now. I was at the show from tracks 1-7 (16th September) so it's brilliant for me to hear a show in this quality that I went to. Can anyone tell me what shows the rest of the album is taken from?
Thank you Prince smile
Can't wait for the next studio album, Rainbow Children vol 2 please or something like Lovesexy would be nice..

OK, it is widely misquoted as 2001. However it actually appeared/was heard in the sequel 2010. Told u it was geeky. Remember this to tease any film nerds you might know. You can win £20 in a bet. The relevance to Prince was us walking into the indigo bar that night at around 4am. Guys were carrying out the huge 3121 signs! There was a spice girl pissed, hanging onto a wall, giggling into a bouncers face. Skin from Skunk Anasie was playing piano with a roadie, Nicky clarke was fixing his hair and several other celebs doing various things in various corners. I uttered the immortal words..."My God, It's full of Stars.."

quite reminiscent of the Aladdin DVD, enjoyable enough on random play

what do you want? a playlist that sounds identical to the pop of Raspberry Beret era or a diverse selection of old and new music and styles...?

bonus CD's like this give us that bit extra, I mean, you would have moaned if he decided NOT to include the CD with the book.

play it more than once through and you might appreciate it more...that's all I can say to those who may not have given it a fair chance...

many albums i have been unsure of in the past grew on me after a few playthrus. I wasn't keen on 3121 when it came out, now I like all the songs on there...
This is what it's like in the dream factory...

I've had a 128kbps rip of the cd but it's so nice to have the real stuff!

I love the cd. It's really funkin' great 2 see the twists prince did to 3121.

The Shelby J tracks are excellent. She has a great voice. Better than Támar's.

I agree with you. Maybe it's because it features Beverly and Shelby. Maybe it's because we would have preferred a proper live album of hits and showstoppers like many of the boot dvds that are floating around.

Another one of the constant boo birds. Why are u here? And more importantly why do u continue u to be here when all u ever have to say is how disapointed u are with something?

And it is simply untrue that there is no passion in his playing. Maybe u don't feel it but that is much different from the playing itself. I feel the passion and there is no way Prince puts out this product without feeling the passion himself.

So really u are the one with the problem which u can solve be finding someone u do feel passion for and stop coming her to moan and rain on the parade.
