He DID do an aftershow every night. It's just some of them were more conceptual than musical. Like the one where he was just about to pick up his guitar but then felt like going for a margarita at Pizza Hut instead. That was OK but he seemed hesitant when they asked what toppings he wanted. Not a confident performance, I thought.

Yeah - too funny!! lol

Well, this version is great - certainly the picture quality is improved. Whilst the sound is definitely louder, I'm not sure if its better quality (I'll reserve judgement on that until I've heard it on my hi-fi system!).

I don't think its necessarily a re-master, but it has certainly benefitted from a better transfer, by the production company responsible for producing this DVD, from the source for this release - top marks! The one I bought from HMV last year is definitely not as good as this free copy smile

Now, yes, how about Lovesexy, which just has the edge for me as its completely live and unadulterated by overdub wink

One weird thing - the sleeve states that the sound is Dolby 5.1 / Stereo, but my version doesn't seem to have a Dolby 5.1 soundtrack at all.

However, I like the subtitles.

However, I did see a programme last year (?) with Davic Byrne talking about the making of Stop Making Sense and that too had to have additional bits filmed to tie it all up and does have overdubs etc.

Overdubs is one thing, but Prince re-recorded the entire movie at PP, playbacking to a live recording. And the reason he had to do that was because he was way to impulsive and expected fantastic results while having no preparation time. Antwerp was considered a dress rehearsal for the film crew, but it didn't help since virtually none of the material filmed in Holland was usable.

(And UGTL is simply the video copied to film.)

I am currently living in France, but my parents are still in London - I stupidly relied on my mum to pick up a copy but she forgot!!! She has been out today to try and get me one, but they have all been collected by the company that does the delivery.

Does anyone have a copy on DVD that they can send me please? I am with paypal if that helps!

Aww, that sucks! I'm in the States so I can't help you, but check with the person who started this thread: http://prince.org/msg/9/247281 Maybe they have an extra?

Good luck!

I would still like to see the material that was filmed in Holland regardless of how dark and grainy it may look, I think they still spliced in a few scenes from in the SOTT movie

I wonder if I got burned???

I saw another orger's post that said they found a SOTT copy on e-bay so I went over there and bought one too.

I figured there would be zillions of them from the recent newspaper giveaway.

It just arrived today and I'm thinking uh oh, this don't look right.

The case is all in Spanish with some Japanese subtitles. It says it's 85 minutes long and features the following setlist:

1. U Got the Look
2.Play in the Sunshine
3. Little Red Corvette
4. Housequake
5. Slow Love
6. I could Never Take the Place of Your Man
7. Hot Thing
8. Now's the Time
9. If I was Your Girlfriend
10.Forever in My Life
11.It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night
12.It

Can anyone tell me if the version handed out with the newspaper is the same or different than this one?

There's no case with the Observer's edition of the DVD. It just comes in a square card sleeve.

"It" is last? Bootleg!

correction: I read some earlier posts that said the free one had misprints on the tracklist...

This is the one I owned. It's the whole show but the picture is a little dark. I like it, it even has extras, it was obviously made in Brazil if this is the one I'm thinking of.

I was hoping I could trade my extra copies, as I was burgled ca 1997 sad , and absolutely every video I had got nicked. A whole hockey bag full. Really good taste those burglars!! I would trade a few copies against any spare DVDs of Syracuse, UTCM, the 7/6/1986 concert (my favourite!), rock video compilations (Automatic, please!) or other suggestions. NO cash offers please

I've got a tape somewhere with some of the Dutch people who helped tape it and IIRC they said Antwerp was a dress rehearsal. But yeah, they must be wrong: http://prince.org/events/1987/06

Isn’t It A Shame This Ain’t A Movie... Part 2 – Uptown #20

Near the end of his 1987 European tour, Prince decided to film the final shows of the tour for a proposed Sign O’ The Times concert movie. The last three shows of the tour were filmed: June 27 and 28 in Rotterdam, Holland and June 29 in Antwerp, Belgium. In July and August, Prince filmed vignettes and additional footage for the film at Paisley Park. There are four hours of outtakes from this Paisley Park footage circulating amongst collectors on video. They include various takes of “Housequake,” “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” and “Hot Thing” filmed from about every conceivable camera angle. When the film was completed, very little of the live footage from the actual concerts was included. Almost all of the footage in the movie was filmed at Paisley Park with Prince lipsynching to the audio tracks of the concerts. It was decided to include only Sign O’ The Times era songs in the movie, with the lone exception of “Little Red Corvette.” Therefore, the live performances of “Girls & Boys,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “When Doves Cry,” “Purple Rain,” and “1999” that were filmed in Rotterdam and Antwerp were never released.
