The B-sides album is a masterpiece!!!!!

I remember the first time I listened it, three years ago. I already knew popular songs like Erotic City, 17 Days, She's always In my hair, How come you don't call me anymore, Another lonely Xmas, God or Irresistible Bitch (all masterpieces), but somehow I always feared that the rest of the album was just ok-forgettable songs...I was so wrong!!!! There are no weak songs in this album. With the sole exception of Escape (an almost unlistenable remix of GlamSlam), the rest of the album is GOLD, even the throwaway numbers (Horny Toad, Gotta stop, 200 Ballons...) Scarlet Pussy is a fuckin' gem, a song that could have been written by Notorious Big if he had started his career in the late 80's, Feel you up is better than half of the Batman material, 4 the tears in your eyes and I love you in me are two of his most underrated ballads ever and you know, all the ATWIAD B-sides should have been included on the album as A-songs.
Listening to the B-sides album for the first time I truly realized that Prince was a special guy lol ; I mean, how many artists can deliver B-sides as good as the A-songs? Perhaps only Bob Dylan in the 60’s. Genius. cool

I agree. I love the b-sides as much as any album. 200 Balloons, Gotta Stop, Horny Toad, Scarlett Pussy, and really all of them are top Prince songs.

however...

I like Escape more than Glam Slam. boxed

Agree!

I had listened to the 3 CD box 'best of' quite a lot, and had already quite clearly made up my mind that the third disc was my favourite one, when I found out that that particular disc contained only B-sides. I was gobsmacked.

That's how I statred getting into prince (in 1996)

Most of these songs were edited 4 the 7inch & that's what we got on the B-Sides CD. U should try 2 get the long versions on a p2p: they're so funky u're gonna go mad !

PS: Actually, "Girl" was recorded during the 1999 sessions (1982), "She's Always In My Hair" was recorded during the Purple Rain sessions (1983) (though it is not known if Prince reworked them or not b4 releasing them), & "Hello" was recorded during the "Parade" sessions, after the release of ATWIAD, so i guess that explains why they weren't added in ATWIAD.

It's a shame that no one does B sides or any thing similar anymore.

The whole industry is fucked up with file sharing,ipods,mp3s and etc.The artists can't do anything similar to 45s,12inches etc.

Then install a p2p software & download them, they're easy 2 find as well as all the side-projects (Madhouse, the Family, etc.).
Since Prince & WB don't make these songs available anymore & make no profit of them anyway, i don't think it's "immoral" 2 download them 4 free on a p2p!

I have the 3-disc set but I really only listen to the 'B-Sides' disc. The other songs,I can hear on the individual albums but it's great to have most of the B-sides compiled on one disc. Some cool songs on there!

I can't stand 'The Hits' or 'The B Sides', because they are butchered.

After growing up with the 12"/extended versions, I just can't listen to the shortened versions.

I loved it when it came out, but if I had been familiar with the extended versions like you I definitely would have been disappointed...and pissed off! I wish they would release a box set of all the extended/remixed versions combined so that they're all in one place.
