I can't stand 'The Hits' or 'The B Sides', because they are butchered.

After growing up with the 12"/extended versions, I just can't listen to the shortened versions.

I loved it when it came out, but if I had been familiar with the extended versions like you I definitely would have been disappointed...and pissed off! I wish they would release a box set of all the extended/remixed versions combined so that they're all in one place.
.....

that would be so cool

^although edited, I think it's well worth having. IMO, both the B-sides and the second disc of Ultimate (which includes extended versions) are must haves for anyone "new" trying to get to know Prince's material. Stay away from "The Best of" Prince, it's useless, just buy the albums.

Being old and all wink , I have all the 80's long versions on vinyl. (in fact, my vinyl has only been played once or twice since I used to transfer it inmmediately to cassette for the car, walkman). I haven't had a turntable hooked up for awhile, and cassettes wear out so I hadn't heard some of that stuff for some time b4 Ultimate came out. It was great! And back when the B-sides was released, it was just really nice to have those songs on CD as an official release.

IMO most of his B-sides from the second halve of the eighties are a lot stronger then most material on New Power Soul, Rave, the Rainbow Children, Musicology and 3121....

It's a great shame that he doesn't really do b-sides anymore. I miss them.

It's a shame that no one does B sides or any thing similar anymore.

The whole industry is fucked up with file sharing,ipods,mp3s and etc.The artists can't do anything similar to 45s,12inches etc.

Not true! The Red Hot Chili Peppers have put a least two b-sides on every single thats came out for their Stadium Arcadium cd.

True on the RHCP and they have been very good also.

Funny thing is I have over 100 Prince outtake cd's, and back in the day I used to see the 12 inch set all the time in NYC, but now it's one of the missing parts to my catalog.

I have all the circulating outtakes but I only heard the Little Red Corvette 12 inch on the Ultimate for the 1st time. LOL.

I must say what I fool I was/am.
Music is the best...

Yeah and if he had even a per cent of the talent of Prince!
