I don't think he comes off as miserable - he's got a pretty good sense of "self". I'm sure he has his ups-and-downs, but I doubt he displays them publicly.

As for preaching - yeah, it's too much. His approach to spreading The Word is "I'm right, you're wrong". I don't like that much, but I still support him to hear the music. It's my choice - but I do not look to Prince for guidance.

Did you go to the Celebration, when the rainbow children was out?
I did...
the man was insane!
sure it was fun, i didn't take him seriously
but the things he said were so.... primitive....
i mean a belief in god is one thing, but this dude would be happy if their was a JW caste system in the world,

but i still respect his opinion, no matter how wacked out it could be,
but he def was trying to force christian propaganda back when TRC was going on
not with TRC persay, but at the celebration,
he had a *jesus is lord, let em deal with it* kinda attitude

I did not.

But were you forced to attend the celebration? Once you were there, did he strap you down and force you listen to his preaching?

Miserable? No, he seems more at peace with himself and his legacy now than perhaps ever before. Annoying? Well, in some ways.

Prince always had a strong sense of self and always seemed to really be confident in his beliefs. But the difference is that, in the past, he usually seemed to take on more of a rebellious, free spirited approach to his beliefs that focused more on his own personal salvation and happiness.

With stuff like Uptown, it seemed more about either joining him to share the good time or getting the fuck out of the way so as to not ruin his own. Now it seems to have changed from "Join me if you want or let me be" to "Join me or perish in inevitable damnation."

The Prince of yesterday always felt like someone who was searching, and invited everyone else to search along with him. The Prince of today thinks he has found an indisputable truth, and apparently has a need to "save" us.

In other words, Prince seems to have more boldly assumed the role of the savior instead of the saved/one in need of salvation. He seems to look upon himself as some sort of spiritual teacher these days who needs to school the lost, ignorant children doubting what he is positive is simply "the truth" and nothing less.

Has this arrogance come about with his age and legend status? Was it created by the strict, arrogant nature of the Jehovah's Witnesses religion (and really, almost all religion)? Has it really always been there, and now it's simply more obvious because of our knowledge of his new religion? All very good questions with many possible correct answers.

All I know is that I think Prince works better as the pop artist getting me to dance than the religious preacher getting me to knock on people's doors.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Prince has always been preachy, just not always preachy about the same things. He seems to change his mind a lot, and when he does he gets stuck on the idea like he's found the Holy Grail...until the next idea strikes his fancy, anyway.

I don't pay it a whole lot of attention, mostly. shrug

I totally agree, and feel the same.
Its just that his current infactuation seems to be lasting a bit longer than usual, hmmm I mean cant he ditch the Jw thang and go on to something else, like world peace and world poverty...
Ooops forgot BONER,s already cornered that one lol

I view his spiritual assertions on his recent albums and concerts as being a practical aspect of his JW faith. While no expert, I believe JWs are expected to 'testify' their 'witnessing' of their perceived truth. Prince doesn't knock on doors too much, but he'll creep up on ya' through your headphones. wink

I have not hear anything from Prince that he feels miseravle or anything. I don't mind so much about his preaching. Really. I find it kinda of cool that he would do something like that. I wouldn't. well...maybe i would do something along those lines, but not go on stage and preach for like 30secs. I would be embrassed cuz i can be a shy person at times. As long as Prince wants to do his thang than more God speeding love to him. But, for the ones that keep on insulting Prince: Shut the FUCK UP! Prince is trying to live his life his way. You should do the same.

he was preachy for like 30 seconds in Vegas earlier this summer....talking about Jehovah, The Devil, Sin City.....etc. which gave me the idea that he might be coming here to save us sinners or something....on a mission perhaps?
but it was only like 30 seconds and the rest of the show was awesome
Well if the show was awesome, I think anyone ought to be able to put up with 30 seconds of talk. It was probably a 2 hr show.

Thank you, ElCapitan. Anybody at any time would've been free to leave. He was expressing his opinions/convictions, much like people around here express theirs. No one's *forced* to listen or read, or even to seriously consider if they do read or listen.

Fact is, Prince has a captive audience. We pay to see him. He can say whatever he pleases, and as misguided as I think the JW sect is, I do think P thinks he's actually doing something good and trying to help people in an eternal way. He's preaching because he cares (and because he probably thinks it's required to get to Heaven). You don't *have* agree with him and change your life to align with his beliefs. He's not going to keep you there tied up until you agree to become a JW.

im sure if it wasn't a felony, he would've tried, lol

ppl didn't have a problem with Prince strapping them n2 The EndorphinMachine...is it just the more religious aspect of it?

and no Prince is still just Prince 2 me.

when he took many moments from singing 2 'preach' it felt like he was sharing something personal 2 him.

I didn't feel 'FORCED' 2 do anything with what he said.

No, I don't think he's miserable or annoying. He's just recovering from a failed marriage just like alot of people . I've been married 25 yrs and I can just imagine how difficult separating from someone you once loved is, no matter the length of time.
As far as P preaching, one orger stated he was at a concert when P asked the crowd if anyone was a "believer" and he yellllled out "Hell NO!" So, he gets reality checks whether he likes it or not.
I think I have a pretty healthy perspective on Prince and whatever he's doing, he'll do OK and be OK.

i don't go to concerts or listening parties to hear a sermon,
i go for him to play his music, not his views on religion and politics
its bad enough that his musical outlet is turning into shite
preaching aint helpin matters
Alot of the stuff he preaches is offensive to other religions,
i remember he said "they're aint no power in the name Mohammed", at a show and i was like wtf...
thats just wrong
no matter what you believe in, it just aint cool to denounce others religion

OMG you guys are over-exaggerating,and I mean OVER-EXAGGERATING! You're acting as if he spends the whole or half the concert preaching, and I've watch too many concerts on bootleg to know it ain't true. He may say a few lines here or there but that is minor compared to a 2-3 hour music set. Good grief!!

wtf we're not even talking about that, r we? lol i don't even know
but i don't like 3121, i've only listened to it once
and thought it was utter garbage,
poorly written, too prompt
Musicology had better songs, was promoted a whole lot better,
its not great, but in my opinion its a stronger album than 3121
3121, was more um...
pop friendly

oh and a million days kicks fury's ass lol
i'm sorry
