Can one stop being a fan?

When you feel disappointed, upset, in disagreement... with Prince, can you stop loving him after being a fan for a long period of time?
If so, how do you do it?
Do you come back to him then?

I never stop being a fan, because nothing he does now can ever taint the magic of his old material. But, I do definitely go through different levels of fandom.

Whenever Prince disappoints or bores me, I just move on to one of the other artists I love, like Radiohead.

I think a big problem with some hardcore Prince fans is that they rely on him too much to satisfy their musical hunger, perhaps 'cause he releases so much music that he's all some people need. Maybe that's why they're so hard on the guy sometimes.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

You're right. Too high of an expectation can bring to a fast disappointment.wink

Prince is just like alcohol. It makes you feel great at first, but if you rely on it too much, you won't wanna even look at it soon enough.

What if... if U ever got to meet him.... he was extremely rude and dismissive toward U? What if he just hurt your feelings and embarrassed U, and made U feel like U can't believe U spent all this time and energy fawning over him and that was how he treated U?

I'm just saying.... confused

[I liked Malbena's quote about high expectations...]

I know I don't know Prince. Meaning, I am conscious (even though I am tagged as "OBSESSED" on my profile) that I do not know who he is pesonally. I only know him through his music. This is reflective of a lot of his soul, his thoughts, his beliefs, and his experiences, but does not replace knowing him on a personal level. So, even if I met him and he was really mean or rude, I seriously doubt it would deterr my love for him as a muscial genius. I don't have to always be 100% on line with him to be a Prince fan. I am no JW, but I still love "The Word"--you know? It has been 24 years!!! 24 years of Prince adoration. There is a reason for this. Can't foresee too much changing that at this point.
