Big chunks of the "D&P" album - Thinking particularly of "Money Don't Matter" (sounds like it was sung through a phone) and "Strollin'" (bloody awful!)

- Well...studio version of Strollin really sucked (although Michael B does a good job in the end and guitar solo is nice also) because of the keyboards and bass line, but the ONA version of Strollin/U and me rules. "Money dont matter" is one of those non-hit songs that I love. Discret, very good melody and unusual harmony.

Most of the "Symbol" album - Tony M overload, but maybe I'm against this because it reminds me of the time around its release, rather than the album itself.

- Probably...indeed, too much Tony M there....but there are some real good songs there like Morning Papers, Love U 2 the 9s, Damn U, Sexy MF, And God created woman...but the bad songs are indeed bad, like I wanna melt with U

The "Come" album - My jaw dropped when I heard it, but for all the wrong reasons. Earlier versions of the title track were excellent, but the released version was atrocious.

- I remember I didnt like it back when it was released...now I m learning to appreciate more, although I think it's a shame that he didnt include the remix of the title song also. "Space" sounded much better live. "Loose" was great live also...

1999 - HIGHly undanceable (for what is considered to be one of the best
dance songs ever.)

U Got The Look - no no no!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

As a counterpoint to the earlier thread - List Prince songs that are popular with society or the org that you cannot stand. My choices are:

The Most Beautiful Girl In the World - Along with the video, the title should replace "Beautiful" with "Cheesy"

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold - nice melodies but too over the top

Dolphin - Was this a post- Thriller MJ throwaway?

Diamonds and Pearls - Bad Pop lyrics 101

Gold - Purple Rain Lite

Purple Rain - Just Kidding!! But I am getting a litte tired of this classic

I'm pretty much with you, here. All these are overrated, except maybe for "Most Beautiful," which somehow ended up growing on me.

Sign O' The Times (The song)

Adore

Anna Stesia (starts out very well, but the song feels really top heavy with the "god is love, girls n' boys" nonsense at the end, and it collapses under its own weight. That ugly "deep" voice at the end also just drags the song down at the end... major forshadowing for TRC's major downfall.)

I love SOTT and I dig Adore.

I even like AnneStesia, but I hate the "god is love, love is god" ending. It makes an otherwise powerful song seem like it ends in a furious nursery ryme.

Never a big fan of Glam Slam. Seems too cheesy for me. I kinda think Joy in Repetition is overrated in here as well. But, I cant condone not liking IWD4U. Thats borderline blasphemous.

Anna Stesia--I like it, but those lyrics at the end are incredibly immature and corny. "Girls and boys love God above"? That's rough.

Anotherloverholeinyourhead--Another song that I like but think is overrated. There's nothing particularly special about it.

Play in the Sunshine--Self-conscious, generic Prince pop that's overshadowed by much better songs conveying the same theme.

It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night--Boring, annoying, overly long song that completely disrupts the flow of the second SOTT CD.

The Holy River--Pretentious, sanctimonious, contrived crap.

In This Bed Eye Scream--Average song with no interesting hook to speak of.

Last December--More JW dogma, and a chorus that feels out of place.

La, La, La, Hee, Hee, Hee--Simply annoying barking sounds. Unpleasant song.

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?--The piano notes are piercing and grating.

Well these are some controversal picks! lol

The nature of the thread calls for everyone to act like a contrarian.

Smart point but were you serious about How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? I killed the 45 B side single which I wore out more than the A side (1999). The space, anger, frustration, wanting, loneliness, depressive genius. This song will be a standard that is recorded again and again by others over the years.

Why am I trying to sell you on this? You have to change your mind!

OK, as much as I like it, I agree that the end is a little heavy handed. But despite that, it's one of my favs.

But I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing Purple Rain again. It never did much for me, and now I just am so sick of it as to cringe when I hear it.

A lot of people are listing songs that hardly qualify as "Prince songs everyone loves"...lol..."Dinner With Delores"??..."Daddy Pop"??..."Strollin'"??...Please. Someone says they don't like "When Doves Cry", then you got a Prince song everyone loves. But "Glam Slam"??...Um, no. lol

Prince fans have been pissed at me for years for not liking HCUDCMA, but I just never liked it. The clunky piano notes are annoying.

Damn, i like all the Prince songs that are populair when I think of it, some more, some less smile but they always make me smile when I here them on the radio... There are songs like Rave and Empty Room i don't like that much but like someone said those aint no hits...
But!
What I find really annoying are the house remixes of Prince classics, 1999 and Kiss n stuff... never heard any good one...
