Re-make "the love we make"

I'm listening to the live version of this song, from an aftershow of musicology, and it is sooo damn beautiful, where as the version on emancipation is horrible, I cant listen 2 it, if prince put all this energy into that studio track like he did with this live version, it could of been HUGE!

Izza U curdled? That's crazy talk. I haven't heard the live version, but the studio version is one of the best things on Emancipation.

Get yo' mouth right.

See, now if you'd said you had heard both versions, then you may have had a case...

So no - get yo' own mouth right first.

The live version is ok, but nothing to make my heart beat faster
the original is one of a small dozen good tracks on Emancipation
props to Prince for playing it live though since he plays far too
little post 1993 songs these days imo.

all that new stuff he released and he just keeps playing the same
old songs
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

GOOD question!

If I get sick and tired of hearing Kiss and The Ride etc, imagine how that poor sod feels at times. lol

why do I think what is so?

smile

the simple answer would be that most of his
post 1993 material sucks. altho I do not go
for that so easily.

there are enough songs that he coulda played
live the past decade and yet chose not to.

why?

we should start a new toppic on that nod

jonathan melvoin's death...

Desperate is the day that is 2morrow
4 those who do not know the time has come
2 whip the dogs that beg, steal or borrow
From the table God set 4 His Son
Wicked is the witch that stands 4 nothing
All the while watching 2 see U fall
Deeper than the ditch that bred your suffering
The one being dug right now by them all

Happy is the way 2 meet your burdens
No matter how heavy or dark the day
Pity on those with no hope 4 2morrow
It's never as bad as it seems until we say

Precious is the baby with a mother
That tells him that his Saviour is coming soon
All that believe will cleanse and purify themselves
Put down the needle, put down the spoon {x2}

Sacred is the prayer that asks 4 nothing, oh
While seeking 2 give thanks 4 every breath we take, oh
Blessed are we inside this prayer
4 in the new world, we will be there

The only love there is, is the love we make {x2}
(The only love there is, is the love we make)
Only love there is, only love there is
The only love there is, is the love we make (Yeah)
The only love there is, is the love we make

wow, i got all teary eyed just reading the lyrics.....once again prince proving what a master lyricist he can be...

it must suck to be able to create such beauty out of travesty....

sidenote: right before wendy performed Reaching One she mentioned that the song was about Jonathan's death and that time had passed and that it was no longer hard for her....now im not a songwriter but i would think the pain would just come flooding back each time the song is performed...

and then poor lisa standing there probably thinking of her brother..a friend emailed me and told me that they dedicated Reaching One to wendy's mom who was attending last weeks show.....she mentioned it being a real difficult year for her so nobody better give her crap, including her children. wink

I totally get where you are coming from. I guess it was P's way of offering solace through song as his condolence.

violator

One of his best songs of the '90's material. If he'd have included it on Side 2 of 'Emancipation', that particular group of songs would have rivaled anything he put out that decade.

For some reason, I thought I'd heard the song was about the drug problems and ultimate death of his former bodyguard Big Chick.

Anyway, I think the EMANCIPATION version is fantastic! It's one of only maybe five songs I ever listen to on that package. The passion in his voice aside, the drum track alone is worth several repeat plays. nod

that must have been an anti-wendyandlisa fan telling you that.....the kind that piss all over the girls and then admit they love a song (that happens to be co-written by the girls) and then say, "oh..but thats mainly a prince song)... rolleyes

i swear...how people make their hated/love for music personal amazes me...
