One Nite Alone Live: Official Release Date

Per a very reliable source who works very close with NPG Records, the official retail release date for Prince: One Nite Alone Live is 12/10/2002. Members of the NPG Music Club will start recieving their copies days before the retail release.

[Others have written in to say their NPG order status shows it "in progress", too! -Ben]

What does "in progress" really mean? Can someone with experience of ordering things from NPGMC help?

This live set has been "in progress" for a long time now, admittedly not actually on the account page, but do u think I can expect this on my doorstep in a week or so or is it more likely "in progress" means they're still getting them ready for mailing?

I'm getting excited about this little box set.

Give it to me dammit!!!

Well... with Prince, "in progress" can mean many things. But I do know from experience that when the One Night Alone (solo piano) cd was listed as "in progress", it did not take very long to receive the cd. So I'm not going to make any predictions, but IF (and that's big 'if') the official release date is Dec 10, 2002, then I would certainly expect members to receive their copies prior to the 10th of December. So at the most, we're talking less than a month at this point. But of course, all of this information is unofficial, which in my opinion is a shame in and of itself... I mean, we're paying members of the club, why not just tell us??? To me, it seems kind of silly not to.

All I know is that if we don't get our copies earlier than the official release date(and that's assuming the box set is going to retail), it's going to be "Crystal Ball" all over again, and I don't think Prince wants that to happen. But when it comes to business decisions, I am never surprised anymore with Prince's ineptness. So we'll see what happens.

The Rotterdamn show is out on bootleg (by Moonraker I think). I haven`t heard it but my west coast bootleg connection is getting it very soon.

The "One Nite Alone" album (not the box set) changed status to "Shipped" once it was on it's way, so I'm guessing that until the box set says "Shipped", it's still sitting on a shelf somewhere with no one enjoying it yet. But who knows how often the web page is updated.

I'm sure we'll get an e-mail soon, let's just keep our heels on. =P

What I remember from One Nite Alone (album) was that the status was still being reported as in progress for a while after I received it. At least we now know that we are getting it as part of this years club.

Well...I think mine has shipped or is in the process of being shipped...it has an order date of Nov. 7!

One Nite Alone had an order date of May 7th and I got it soon after.

Exactly 6 months later...hmm.

But isn't anyone a little pissed that it now seems that this is gonna fulfil the club membership? A 3-CD box set that is also being released to retail? Wouldn't you rather have something exclusive that non-members can't get?

Well, I'm still hoping that will happen anyway...!

I don't think this is going to fulfil the membership promise of (at least) 4 CD's. I'm counting on (at least) 4 ALBUMS!! And this is going to be the second one!

Besides, what happened to the 7-CD box set of Xenophobia???

Actually, NPGMC has said that the meberships will be ending at years end, so that would indicate that these three CDs are the fulfillment of the clubs obligation. Remeber, you were promised four CDs, not four sets. this is the reason I didn't renew my membership this year. I just had a feeling that P would do something like this. It would have been worth it if his tour had come through my town, but it didn't. Ultimately, it would have been a collosal waste of $100 for me.

No, I don't (wanna) believe it! Earlier this year he said that he'd already recorded 4 different albums which would be sent to us this year!!

This way we're actually paying $ 75,- for ONA live!! Nah, he can't do that, that would be too low and a crime inflicted on to his most loyal fans...!

I think anyone getting their hopes up for "4 seperate ALBUMS" or a "7-cd set" are setting themselves up for a BIG disappointment!!!

a) it is NOVEMBER- club ends in DECEMBER

b) as of OCT 4 , and AGAIN in NOV, stated that, "NO OTHER cd's were in development"

c) FURTHERMORE: NPGMC said in regards to the other mentioned titles,"they were just ideas".

d) "ONE NITE ALONE LIVE" and "ONE NITE ALONE" took 3 months each, from announcement to shipping. Do you really think 3 more discs are gonna be recorded, mastered, manufactured, packaged, and shipped in the next 45 days?

Please do yourselves a favor and don't think Prince is gonna give you a "suprise" or a "Christmas Present". The CONtract was for 4 cd's and that's what you'll recieve.

Crystal Ball- an internet only venture that went to retail!
Rave IN2 - an internet, member only incentive that can NOW be ordered by ANYONE!
"One Nite Alone-LIVE", JUST LIKE "RAINBOW CHILDREN", AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS BEFORE IT HITS STORE SHELVES!

THE PRECIDENT HAS BEEN SET. wake up please.

people just wait and see... come on!
give the man a fucking break... and leave the countings behind! i mean, all of us used to pay huge amounts of money for just a fucking single bootleg... most of the time the quality sucked as well.. so i wouldn't mind paying 75 $ or Euro's for a quality 3CD set, of which every artist can dream about... i don't see no other artist releasing a 3CD live boxset, unless you're called Bruce Springsteen or Rush, or Kiss... wink))

Take a fucking break all and be patient for god's sake, you bunch of ... wink Nah, i mean it well, you know that, you bunch of Princetwats! wink love the man tho' still... but he better come up with a good album next spring! a REAL good album for this once!

Ofcourse you're right, put the point is that you can buy it for half that amount of money at the shops two weeks later! Thát's what we're talking about! The quality of his stuff is as amazing as ever, but as a member you should be treated more special than average Prince-consumers and not pay the double amount to get the same stuff!

I mean look at all the speeches and interviews he gave about CONtracts and how dishonest their intentions are. And what does he do? He tries to get out of his own CONtract with his most loyal fams, by saying he ment 4 CD's instead of 4 albums! That's really weak and totally hypocitical!! And for what purpose? The only possibility is money. It can't be a creativity-issue, 'cause the other 3 promised CD's are ready for shipping! He said it himself at the soundcheck of one of his US-shows.

And now he has become mr. money minder himself, as Tony warned us about in '91! Just look at the prices of the aftershows... totally out of proportions, because he knows his fams will come anyway...

IT'S JUST SAD!!!

Well said. It's a relief to see other people's opinion on the club itself.
Don't get me started...but what's with the price in the first place? After 20+ yrs in his career one would assume this musician we all so admire would be in the finacial position to offer a concept like this at a reasonable price.
Are you out there?
After following your career for 15+ yrs and spending most of my disposeable income as a young'un on your releases (and forge'abou' the wad I've spent on Booties!), cut us some slack and drop your prices! You've got the 'Beemer', and what a delightful set-of-wheels it is too. Now try to appreciate the working people out there who have invested a lot, & not just $$$'s to 'help' you to where you are presently.

I'm not one of those who are in the belief the man 'owes' us something. That's rubbish. He doesn't owes us anything (hey, whatta 'bout sum repsec'?), but doesn't logic dictate that it's not wise to disrespect the hand that puts food in your mouth and a basketball court in the middle of your studio set-up?

I'm not impressed with the club, but perhaps the flaw of being an impatient git is clouding my judgement somewhat.
It might more business sense to take heed of the bootleggers out there raking it in. A particular label comes to mind whose releases are documenting some of his most inspired periods/eras, whatever. They're having a ball and good on'em. They know there are people out there willing to purchase well packaged recordings. Recordings that take you back to that gig you never went to, or the reheasrsal that puts light to the 'skeleton' of a show or simply the mood the band were in that day, accompanied with thoughtful and themeatic sleevenotes.

Why are the bootleggers making money? Well, very simple and according to my Economist text book they are fulfilling a demand that hasn't been filled by NPG Records. We are here, willing to buy un-official (I hate that term) releases and if we listen to the media we could even be funding the gangsters out there! Heaven forbid!! I don't want my hard-earned cash going to any place/organisations except the people who ensure da 'erbz safe passage to these shores.

Come on P! Think Globally, Act Locally!

that is all =)
