Why does Tyka get so much hate from the fam

I had posted this on the sticky but I wanna make it a topic if that's okay. I just wanna know why is their so much hate towards her cause I admire the woman very much. I love her story of overcoming her addiction and finding God. I bought her book a few years ago but it was a digital copy. I'm kicking myself for it now cause my computer caught a virus and I lost it. The book is out of print and I'm really sad about that.

I remember a few years ago when she did an interview for Emancipation Radio she said that they had grown very close, much closer than they use to be since the passing of both their parents. She said that he still treated her like the protective big brother like he did when they were kids.

This is why I can't stand when people talk shit about her. Prince loved her and she loved him. She has never had anything bad tosay about him. She said in another interview that if she were stranded on an island and could only take one piece of music she said she would take "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" I thought that was really nice.

I was hoping she would talk a little about the sibling relationship they had. I was very, very disappointed. Still I don't have any ill thoughts about her. She doesnt seem like the kind of woman who would repay the favor of him paying for her rehab which ultimately saved her life by doing anything shady regarding anything about his passing

As for the will, it doesn't matter to me one bit if he had one or not. I know I ain't in it so I ain't worried about it. All I am concerned about is Prince himself and what he was going through that lead to his early death.

Her reaction to his death doesn't make a lot of sense to people. Its cryptic, inconsistent, and odd (not cold exactly, because she seems to speak about him fondly, but odd and cuckoo).

But in a way, the fact that her reactions to his death are not the stereotypical 'shock" and "tears" that everyone else shows might mean she did know of his impending death and had gone through the painful process of coping with it. Most people who just want to use someone for their money at least feign tears (and often we can tell when they seem false), she does not do that. Like her brother, she throws people off.

I think she's pretty darn proud of her brother, as the others are also.

From the interview the other day when the other 2 sisters were at PP, they are just as proud and honestly they should take pride in all that they've done to get PP open to the public.

They are all doing the best that they can do.

Kuddo's to the Nelson family. Our hearts are with you! prince

Yes, I'm with you all. I've always liked Tyka. This is an extremely heavy burden the whole family is carrying. Thoughts and prayers are with them always.

Welcome home class. We've come a long way. - RIP Prince

You wanna know what I think? I think that most fans didn't know who she was, and they learned who she was after P's death.

.

Those same people apparently think her arrival back into the world of P starts with his death too. Most of them probably don't even realize that she was close with him for some time before his passing. Because of this she seems opportunistic to those who aren't in the know - which is totally ridiculous.

.

That's what I think.

I've not really seen that but sad if it's the case. So many of us are deeply hurt by Prince's death. It really feels like a very close friend or family member has died. It's really a very similar feeling and I think some don't recognise that despite those feelings being legit, we're not his friend and we're not his family and as hard is it is to do we have to cede ownership of him now to his family and friends and not resent how they approach his passing and deal with their own grief. He gave his whole life to his art and we knew and loved him
for that. We need to give him back now.

Seems she appreciates and cares about what her brother meant to us. We should
Appreciate that and not take the piss. I'm sure her good will
has limits.

As for being pissed if she's "cryptic, inconsistent or odd" Well you know.

I agree. Most of the hate I see is when I group chat with other fans. They say she all about the money, she's crazy, stupid and a bunch of other crap. I'm like omg what the hell did she do to make people think that of her. But your right, if people were unaware of her exsistence until now it would seem suspect how she is always in the center of media attention. Then again, she is Prince's only full sibling so of course the media would focus more on her than anybody else.

I think people should do their research on her before they judge. If she were really an opprotunist the general public would have known about her long before now. Prince offered her his recording studio to help her during the late 80s when she first started singing and then again when she wanted to record her gospel album. Both times she rejected his help and wanted to do it on her own. Yes she has had her problems in the past where obviously they werent as close but with his help she overcame her obstacles. Prince looked past her past and forgave her I just wish fans would too.

Can't imagine people 'hating'. But who knows, perhaps for some his family are a reminder that he was truly human, and conflicting with his otherworldly/legendary status. Prince was a beguiling faberge funk unicorn - he couldn't possibly have a normal family, could he?

SheLovesMeNot

She's somebody's sister who just got lucky...she's rich and she didn't have to lift a finger...how happy can one be, right? Her brothers home was open to the public only 6 months after his death, I'm sure that in itself will pay the taxes, nothing lost with her. She looks happy and healthy I wouldn't worry about her or the other family members. It's not like they were close every Sunday family dinners!

I do like her, however, I didn't feel comfortable seeing her on the Today Show somber and sad, barely talking and saying 90% denial, 10% maybe, then on ET saying she was over it and she had two years to do it. She did sound a bit non-mournful on ET, telling fans she's sorry for them, that made me very uncomfortable. She seemed to have had one personality on the Today Show, then a different person/personality on ET.

I don't believe anybody "hates" her or any other family member. She's got newfound fame and fortune because her brother passed ...no reason to hate her. Can you imagine without the fame and fortune what kind of person Prince would've been?

I'll admit her contridicting ways threw me off too. An explaination I will say (I dont know of course) is that she was going through the different stages of grief. The ET interview it seems she was inbetween the denial and acceptance while during the Today Show interview she was definitely torn up about it.

We have been there I'm sure. One minute or day you are completely fine and happy, the next you just wanna burst into tears. Yes, the contrast in interviews is alarming but I think we all just need to take a step back and realize that she is greiving like we all are and we are all different in the way we grieve

I thought I was the only person who noticed her different responses. I was concerned till I watched both shows again tonight. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I don't think it is all hate but I feel that she gets blame/accused/called out/hated on because she in the one we see and hear about all the time. For example, I had stated that I thought the family meet and greet at the Dance til Dawn parties made Tyka look like she was after money. After I thought about it, I realized that she aint the only family, there are 5 other siblings that I should be giving the side eye to as well. Actually Omar should get my side eye and I need to let him know that I don't think that is a good look.

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Thank You Prince

I was just reading an article about her first album from 1988 and it seems she antagonized people from the begining by behaving very oddly, and talking lots of nonsense, in interviews and TV appearances when promoting the album at the time. My take is it was out of being shy and maybe trying to emulate the mystic Prince achieved when he himself began (he was also very odd in early interviews, to say the least), but she made herself a reputation as early as back then, and was never vey popular in the Prince fandom as far as I can remember.

I personally don't have an opinion on her because I don't know her. All I know is that she seems to be a women who's suffered a lot in her life and has been through terrible things (failure as a recording artist, drug addiction, prostitution, poverty...). I think that should be enough for people to show a little respect. She may be odd. Maybe even, as some claim, she's taking advantage of Prince's money and fame now that she's at the center of attention. Hell, who cares? Leave the woman alone. People should keep in mind that she may come here and read what they write about her. She's a human being, she doesn't need our shit and I'd rather have her feel that she can safely create an account on the Org and discuss what to do with future vault releases or rereleases with us, that could be constructive, but she certainly won't if she gets insulted all the time.

I don't know, but the world is full of haters and judgmental people. Sometimes people get jealous too of someone who has inherited something like she has. Also many people just think they can do it better.

This stuff really digs at me.

She gets jealousy, not hate. Fans think they know better than Prince's own family how to address media, handle business matters, or just grieve. They won't reveal their own shit, but will drag Tyka's past through the streets. How do folks thinks she feels when she comes here and reads that shit? Honestly - where's the humanity?

Someone on FB the other day made a crack whore reference. It's easy to dismiss someone like that, but until someone has been through what she has as a person, a mother, and a woman, they simply don't know. The fact that she's a recovering addict, and not doing the things she was rumored to be doing should be a fucking celebration, not a hatefest. It's one thing to critique or talk about or debate something, but the flat out vitriol is very un-Princely.

It's so disrespectful. What do you think Prince would say about his fans bashing his sister? His sister who he was close with, and ran certain elements of Prince's business? What do you think he'd say if you walked up to him somewhere and said "Your sister Tyka is a fucking whore who smokes crack." What would you say if that was said about your mother, or sister, or wife, or girlfriend, or daughter? You'd smack the shit out of them.

It's disrespectful not just on a Prince level, but on a human level. If someone got on here and went off on another Orger with that sort of language, they'd be banned for life. But if it's Tyka or Sharon et al, then it's ok. (That's not a reference to how the Org is handled, just a reference to people's attitudes in general.)

Ultimately, Tyka doesn't owe anyone anything. She can be as cryptic or open as she wants, and no one has room to say diddly about it. You can disagree with it,but ultimately this isn't anyone's call. It's her, and the estate's decisions to make.

I'm constantly reminded of when Janet showed up at the 2009 BET Awards for a moment and said, "I'd just like to say, to you, Michael is an icon, to us, Michael is family. And he will forever live in all of our hearts...." That's how Tyka and the siblings see this. They understand his appeal to the masses, and the intense love and protective nature of the fan base. But for her, it's real in a very different way. The first thing she said when she showed up at Paisley Park after his death was "he loved you guys so much". And you know what some Orgers did? Talk shit about her hair or how she looked. How the fuq is she supposed to look? Her brother died. Not exactly a time you dress to walk down a catwalk.

Appreciate her, and the fact that she gets how passionate we are about Prince, his music, legacy, and beyond. Even President was there talking to someone and interacting during the tour (someone here or on FB posted about it; and she, the fan, didn't even know who he was until he later introduced himself).

It's really not surpising how Tyka is treated. Look how Prince was insulted when he was alive. People were insulting him and demanding on what he should do. Now look what has happen, he passes away and seemed to have been struggling with his health for a while at least. People talk mean and don't stop to think how it can hurt people. Prince is not here to be a punching bag so now Tyka/family is the bag now. With that being said, Tyka/family and associates are not above being criticized. Prince had to deal with it in life and even in death he can't get a break from the hate.

The people who talk crap about Tyka' s appearance and past are losers.

It's a lot of things, probably, but here's my $.02.

First, she's a black woman. Anyone who lives in America knows that pretty much sets you up for all kind of hate directed at you if you are in the public eye for even a little bit. I'm not even talking about conscious hate. I'm talking about the really deep-seated sexism (I think I want to use "misogynoir") that is part of the dominant culture. I think that's where the "in it for the money, blah, blah, blah" really comes from.

All of the hate/anger/tone policing that I have seen here and elsewhere regarding Tyka and all of the women coming out of the woodwork really bothers me. Why do y'all have to tone police other peoples' grief? You see these people for soundbites and for very specific points in time (public appearances, etc). You don't see them daily. You aren't in their heads to know what's going through on the regular! Anyone can put on a good public face for a few minutes or a few hours. It's ridiculous.

All of the "she was this way on this appearance and that way there..." - editing. I thought that ET snippet was bunk. It was edited. You have no idea what she said before or after or anything. Shows like that have a narrative that they want to tell - and they can edit to make it happen.

Ok. I'm afraid I'm going to become even more incoherent. That's enough for this post, I think.

Hate is a strong word.

Simply put, she could end speculation about his death. She's not.
As much as she professes to care about his fans, her actions speak otherwise.

I've instilled a personal boycott on all things estatey. The wallet is closed.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

You sound very coherent to me. People don't want to hear that kind of view on the org about sexist/racism but this aspect of all the hatred towards her is the truth. People need to give Tyka a break she's a regular woman who has unfortunately been thrown into the spotlight, trying to do the best she can.

Come now, isn't life a little better with a pair of good shoes? - Prince 1985

He gave his whole life to his art and we knew and loved him for that. We need to give him back now. Seems she appreciates and cares about what her brother meant to us. We should Appreciate that and not take the piss. I'm sure her good will has limits. As for being pissed if she's "cryptic, inconsistent or odd" Well you know. wink

Quoted for emphasis.

My mom was an activist who gave so much to the community and as her daughter, that is exactly how I felt when she passed away.

I think some of it is coming from anger(a part of the grieving process) that they cannot actually direct at Prince. Tyka is left with all of this to deal with. It was never her 'business'. Prince sadly left things as is, which is messy, because as of yet there is no will. And Prince being very secretive and such left a lot of questions for everyone.

What Prince did is not unusual for people to not have a will ready, because of course that kind of stuff makes us all uncomfortable ie dying. Parents do it children all the time. Spouses to spouses etc

Tyka is left with the burden of most of Prince's unfinished business. And people are attacking her for not getting it in order asap or as they wish.

i don't hate tyka!!! i hope she and her family are doing okay

as to the why of it? this website has a long standing tradition of allowing threads that openly bashed prince. i guess it's not surprising some people are continuing on in what they know best and directing their bad energy at tyka now prince is gone....
