sharonbell said: I'll admit her contridicting ways threw me off too. An explaination I will say (I dont know of course) is that she was going through the different stages of grief. The ET interview it seems she was inbetween the denial and acceptance while during the Today Show interview she was definitely torn up about it. We have been there I'm sure. One minute or day you are completely fine and happy, the next you just wanna burst into tears. Yes, the contrast in interviews is alarming but I think we all just need to take a step back and realize that she is greiving like we all are and we are all different in the way we grieve

I thought I was the only person who noticed her different responses. I was concerned till I watched both shows again tonight. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.

I don't think it is all hate but I feel that she gets blame/accused/called out/hated on because she in the one we see and hear about all the time. For example, I had stated that I thought the family meet and greet at the Dance til Dawn parties made Tyka look like she was after money. After I thought about it, I realized that she aint the only family, there are 5 other siblings that I should be giving the side eye to as well. Actually Omar should get my side eye and I need to let him know that I don't think that is a good look.

I am not their ATM they suppose to treat me as an investor since they need fans like us to keep the money going not some child that needs to sheild the hard truth from, very insulting and disrespectful. That cryptic shit worked for Prince because I am a Prince fam first not a Nelson fam.

I spent hundreds of dollars on Prince while he is alive and I was happy the money went to him and also to other people in his circle and yes that included his family because he earned it. I am not obligated to spend more money on his family just because they are kin to him. I wish them family the best of finding ideas to keep the money generate years to come and I hope some of them take some business courses because otherwise they might have to deal with some money issues down the road.

My support for Prince so far end on April 21 and so far the family haven't convince me to support the estate beyond. I am a consumer first (heck I didnt even bought all Prince albums because some of them were so and so) and I believe in self presersation.

Has anybody considered the fact that Princes death is still VERY MUCH an open investigation, hence everybody keeping their damn mouths shut?

Maybe they aren't talking because they have been advised not to.

But nah, that sounds too much like right cool

I just know half the shit some of these people say about Tyka they wouldn't dare say it to her OR Princes face and thumb thugging just because you spent money in exchange for someone's art is tacky and classless. As tacky and classless as some of y'all say she is.

Just out of curiosity, who said you were?

The estate is part of his legacy now. Not supporting the estate in not good. I am somewhat curious about what lead to Prince's death but not at the point that I would not support the estate in consuming whatever they put out. I don't want think it's right to use the family unwillingness to provide details on Prince's health as a reason to not support the estate. Prince never really address all rumors and assumptions in life and no one was demanding answers then, so what's the issue now. If Prince was alive today he most likely would not have say a word if wind broke he was sick/or in rehab. He would keep it moving because people believe what they want to believe.

But it is not fair either of fans trying to tell other fans they have to support the estate in the name of legacy , its each individual choice.

The family need to find creative ways to keep his legacy going for years to come (like licensing his music and find ways to attract younger audience to his art instead of relying on his aging fanbase because a business minded person diversified). Prince has been gone since April 21st and therefore, I am not obligate to continue to support his estate and I dont have to own an explaination to fans much less to the estate.

It's a lot of things, probably, but here's my $.02.

First, she's a black woman. Anyone who lives in America knows that pretty much sets you up for all kind of hate directed at you if you are in the public eye for even a little bit. I'm not even talking about conscious hate. I'm talking about the really deep-seated sexism (I think I want to use "misogynoir") that is part of the dominant culture. I think that's where the "in it for the money, blah, blah, blah" really comes from.

All of the hate/anger/tone policing that I have seen here and elsewhere regarding Tyka and all of the women coming out of the woodwork really bothers me. Why do y'all have to tone police other peoples' grief? You see these people for soundbites and for very specific points in time (public appearances, etc). You don't see them daily. You aren't in their heads to know what's going through on the regular! Anyone can put on a good public face for a few minutes or a few hours. It's ridiculous.

All of the "she was this way on this appearance and that way there..." - editing. I thought that ET snippet was bunk. It was edited. You have no idea what she said before or after or anything. Shows like that have a narrative that they want to tell - and they can edit to make it happen.

Ok. I'm afraid I'm going to become even more incoherent. That's enough for this post, I think.

-

You sound very coherent to me. People don't want to hear that kind of view on the org about sexist/racism but this aspect of all the hatred towards her is the truth. People need to give Tyka a break she's a regular woman who has unfortunately been thrown into the spotlight, trying to do the best she can.

Thanks!

If you don't want to support the estate that is you and others prerogative. Just like it's my prerogative to pick and choose what I want to support from the estate. I did not tell anyone to support anything or to give me explaination about anything. I just think it is lame not support the estate because the family won't tell Prince's business for whatever reasons. Prince did not tell all his business, so why should the family be under pressure tell the business now. I am sure the family will find ways to attract younger fans in time. Branding and promotion cost money and takes time. They have appeal to old, new, and future fans. If Selena, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and others estate can find things to appeal to new fan, so can Prince' s estate. I am not happy with some of things that the estate did but it is what it is and the estate in still in the baby stages. Is very hard to deal with business and grief with or without a will so I give the family a break.

Glad somebody brought up Selena.
The woman has been dead 21 years, had a career that in all actuality was maybe 10 years and only 6-7 of that was major label releases and yet her family makes millions from her likeness and music every single year. And her fan base is a small fraction of Prince's. Things can and will turn around ..people just need to give them time to grieve and work out the kinks.

I don't why with Prince everything as to be doom and gloom. Selena has a museum with her outfits and car. Not too long along the family did a mac makeup line in her honor. Her fanbase is strong and support the estate. It was reported that a fan started a petition for mac to do the makeup line and it garnering over 37,000 signatures.

That would be a good idea. Selena's museum has her red porsche, awards, outfits, etc. Prince has triple memorabilia and history to display in a museum. PP is bigger Selena's place I think. Selena museum is a top south Texas tourist attraction. General admisission is $3 and no pics with flash and videotaping is not allowed. It has not been a year since Prince died and people are demanding all kinds of things but don't want to suport anything then expecting these grand ideas to get young fans and expand his legacy.

Hell did you see how big "Fiesta de la Flor" was? In just two years it's become a major event. Things like this take TIME AND PLANNING. I can see there being festivals in his honor, dance parties year around, shit Celia Cruz has been gone 13-14 years and she has an official tribute band and just had a Novela based on her life story. Death is sad yes, but it doesn't have to mean the end. It's a new chapter. People just gotta calm down.

I don't hate Tyka, knew of her when she released her album Royal Blue. I am however disappointed by her.

This is why:

1- The private memorial is fine, but there was no public memorial citing the fact that Prince was a JW, but Michael Jackson and his family were JW's also... and they held a public memorial for the fans. The Jackson family understood MJ was a beloved celebrity, and I was hoping Tyka understood that also. It did not have to be televised, but a gesture to help Prince's many fans have some type of closure... many would have to find closure in their own way. I am hopeful that in the future a cenotaph is erected on PP property for those of us who want to say goodbye without the pressure to move on because of the flow of a tour and foot traffic.

2- The messiness of the courtroom drama of Tyka suing her siblings in court for a larger share of the estate, her claim is that she is the only full blood relative of Prince so that she should receive a larger portion of the estate. I will not argue that right, if she thinks it is her right, so be it... I just find it disappointing that the Nelson family is doing battle in court. sigh

3- There is no accounting for taste I suppose because I dislike the urn design and I think it looks rather cheesy, and that Fisher Price Little People looking urn can not possibly be anything Prince would ever want. That man had style, and that urn is NOT it. No one can move me from that opinion, don't even try. smile

The entire money grabbing tour thing, I am cool with, even cool with the urn at PP (I wish it was not front and center as the 1st thing people see also, ugh!), I understand a need for money and to keep things running and alive at PP. I wish her family comfort and healing during their time of grief.

I suspect that people hate Prince's younger sister because of her weight. Society in general are instinctually hostile against us heavy folks.

Me being 716 lbs — soaking wet — I myself empathize with the sister…

I don't what his relationship with his relatives was like to evan comment on who should get what or a bigger amount. It was reported that he supported them. Does that mean he was close to them and they care about him? I don't know. I understand your feeling about the urn.

I don't dislike Tyka necessarily. I don't know her. But I am disappointed in the urn being on display. I don't approve. I don't even like urns on fireplace mantles. the deceased should be in graves or mausoleums. IMO. Or ashes should spread in the ocean or something like that. What hurts me about Prince's final resting place is that now he is part of a display to be gawked at. It dehumanizes him, trivializes his tragic death, and the scene lacks the somberness he deserves.

I am also massively disappointed in her Entertainment Tonight interview. She comes off cryptic, a bit cold, and my first thoughts were "IF You knew he was going to die at such a young age, why didn't you do something to try and help him?" Why are you so content and not surprised about your brother's sad lonely death in an elevator?" I really hope she did the best she could to help him but I don't know. Sadly, her comments make me wish he did have some kind of disease that was incurable...it would make it easier to understand both his and his sister's resignation about his death. In this interview she seemed almost apathetic. (which oddly contradicts with her today show interview and facebook posts)

I have mixed feelings about her but I hope she turns out to be much more dedicated to her brother than sometimes she appears.

And she had better not "remix" any of his songs.

2- The messiness of the courtroom drama of Tyka suing her siblings in court for a larger share of the estate, her claim is that she is the only full blood relative of Prince so that she should receive a larger portion of the estate. I will not argue that right, if she thinks it is her right, so be it... I just find it disappointing that the Nelson family is doing battle in court. sigh

..........

I don't what his relationship with his relatives was like to evan comment on who should get what or a bigger amount. It was reported that he supported them. Does that mean he was close to them and they care about him? I don't know. I understand your feeling about the urn.

IMHO during Prince's life, his relationship with his siblings/family may or may not have been great, and all that is understandable. That is not the point.

I am speaking more to the way it looks when family battles it out in court over money. It is ugly no matter what the reason. I am sure if Prince were alive to witness that, he would not approve, to put it mildly. Fighting over money is just plain ugly.

Maybe somebody ought to do a thread on celebrity museums, seems all we are familiar with is Elvis' in general.

I tried in a roundabout way with Liberace. His museum lasted for 31 years and it's being reopened in Vegas and I don't think he was really a recording artist, definitely not on the level of Prince, let alone the fact Prince's is a recording studio and production stage, the possibilities are vast given time. I don't think most of us are really aware of celebrity museums and that they aren't unusual. Seems like they can do okay even in a niche fanbase.

I will also add that fans didn't have to pay. They had to register for memorial tickets, but it was free! MJ's estate I think was in worse shape than P's but yet the family didn't make the fans pay in order to say "goodbye." Also, it was televised! The Jackson family truly respected the fans during the time of MJ's loss and always thanked them

I don't why they are fighting because either way I don't see anyone walking a way destitute. They should feel lucky they have any thing to fight for. Many musicans died broke and in dept. Prince worked hard and that worker in him may have play a role in his death.

The Jackson family did it right IMO. nod Prince was a JW but he also lived like a celebrity. His death should have been handled the same way he lived his life, because unlike most JW's, Prince lived in excess. Most Christians who were musicians or entertainers walk away from that life and "go gospel" and you never hear from them again in a mainstream fashion. Only time you hear of them is in a "Where are they now" tv special. twocents lol

Somehow I don't think Tyka and Family are concerned about the JW side of things, how many of them went to the JW memorial, I know one of them did but did the rest?

I just read an article that stated Tyka says "that she hopes the tribute concert brings closure to the

fans". I am surely not meaning to be disrespectful and I have not spoken much although I have

thought plenty. Actions speak far louder than words and the time for caring about fams is months

past.

I get a strong sense it's time to pull back now, because i really think I have an idea what's coming down honestly.
