Whoever you are to Denise, I thank you for sharing her past stuff with us. You shouldn't have to go searching through all of her things just to please inquiring minds. I wouldn't go digging to find some romantic letter because no matter what you share it will be disregard with more negative responses. I've learned from great observation on this community that Denise is put down a lot, disrespected, and dismissed to the point they seem like they are dying to erase Vanity from Prince's past. Too much negativity on this forum in regards to that woman. It actually makes me ashamed to come back here sometimes. Smh

I don't understand the blatant dismissing of Denise as it pertains to Prince. I remember that 75 page thread about Prince and Denise (http://prince.org/msg/5/424143) and the venom that started was unreal. I do hope that as TOB posts somethings that it can debunct the myth of Vanity/Denise as some nymphomaniac, coke fiend. She was talented in her own right and had her own resume in film before even knowing Prince. Denise deserves better and hope people will not be run away and will be bold about how wonderful she was- I appreciate TOB for sharing these things to show her to show her to us in such a different light. I am not speaking of romance I am speaking of a true lifelong friendship between the 2.

My take from The floral letter is it shows me she was a woman her prompted deep love and thought from those around her- she was not shallow. Denise seems to have been alot more than a sex crazed cokehead which is how she seems to be depicted in the Prince narrative and other narratives from the 80s early 90s-this woman hit rock bottom and lived a full life all her own; a life of dignity, grace and with that unbelievable beauty God gifted her with. She did not write nasty tell alls or go to tabloids to exploit herself or even Prince. She clearly was an artist in her own right and touched many lives as an Evangelist. I appreciate TOB sharing another side to her. It is a really nice thing to see how she evolved as a person who was so much more than a Prince Protege- she totally carved out another life. I look forward to learning more about her.

She’s complex, It’s complicated and or “D” all the above.

I don’t try to explain and I make no excuses for Vanity or Denise.

But, who would you rather listen to a sermon on “sin,” someone who knew nothing of it?

Without first Vanity there would not have been such an effective “Evangelist,” Denise.

The other way around…?

And, Yes, she was quite the artist, and I’ll share some examples of her creative soon.

This is why she is such an inspiration; I know some ridicule her passion for her faith but it is so inspirational and a reason I adore her to this day. .Her transformation is nothing but miraculous and infectious and know she was a poet, an artist; she was special.

I don't have this view point. I've witnessed a few negative response towards her but nothing substantial. In general I believe she is one of the most well liked of his protege's on here. I've heard nothing but good things about her since I discovered the org. Of course there are some that still brings up her prior drug use and try to belittle her because of it, but in general I think she is well respected here. I'll always remain proud of her for what she accomplished with Prince and for turning her life around, but Mostly I will always remain proud for what she accomplished in her faith.

I definitely respect Denise.
I think she was very vulnerable as much as strong-willed.
I believe Prince felt she was a good person or he wouldn't have been with her seriously.
The letter in the hospital seems as though he wants to keep things as they are (he was always private about his life) but he also wants her to know he cares about her. That impresses me; his compassion - and the time he took to write her so warmly and send her things.

Where this myth come from? We already know how they met. If he stopped and saw this beautiful woman that he thought looked a reflection of himself and later, after they became a couple, he tells her if she loves him she will come with him to Minnesota--how does that mean he had pity? His lyrics from some of his Dirty Mind/1999 album songs from their era together tells me he wanted her regardless of how she behaved. Doesn't sound like pity to me. Even people on YouTube and Lipstick Alley had something to say about this forum. Give the woman a break. It doesn't matter if they were friends, best friends, lovers, or strangers to each other before they died. They are no longer here. Nona was on drugs and was with Prince for pretty much the same length of time as Vanity but I haven't came across many threads talking down on Nona. I saw a poll on a website where his girlfriends/wives names were listed for people to choose who they thought was the prettiest...guess who name wasn't on that list? Nobody here can say Denise wasn't beautiful and from Prince words, she was "the finest woman in the world". It's obvious to me why some people here have no regard or respect for her. I promise you this is not a vent nor am I trying to be rude. I'm just one of those that's not afraid to be straightforward about how I feel. But I won't be responded back on this particular situation. I'm just trying to point out the obvious and I'm sure there are others that agree with me. Denise long time ago turned to Christ and she died a woman of God living for Christ. She will have a place in heaven. That's what really matters. There's nothing to "debunct", imo. Peace.

It was all a long, long time ago. They're both somewhere totally different now.
Prince fell deeply in love later on with at least two other women and was waiting for his true soul mate. That didn't happen yet.
He said they loved each other deeply at one time.

People say what they want to say. But until the day he left she was special and dear to him. People try to down play her significance in his life. The marriages to me were rebounds he married Mayte after Vanity married someone and Mani her resemblance to Denise/Vanity was unreal you think Prince didn't notice that as well?

Its no coincidence they passed so close to each other. I truly believe it broke his heart all over again. She was the One no matter what she had his back with unconditional love always!!!! She was very special. All the songs he wrote for her all the similar events in their lives happened on purpose soulmates twin flames. No other woman could take her place. He knew it. After two failed marriages he knew where he needed to be.

It's not "people" who said what I relayed; it was Prince himself who said that: "At one time."

Prince's life with Mayte was long after Denise split and was a whole different era for him. People do change and grow. Manuela might've been a rebound but not Mayte. Prince was with other women but started getting serious with Mayte and she's the one he chose to marry. Theirs was a story of its own.

I think in his pain, he moved on and married Manuela whom he loved very dearly too, calling her "my Beloved". This time he chose a love a little more mature than the previous one - reflective is his growth and change as a person.

Prince always had a "type". It didn't mean he was constantly trying to copy the DNA of one particular woman. He simply liked Latinas with curly hair who had almond shaped eyes. He liked other types too.

I believe he was very sad about Denise's death and immsure he had moments of reflection. He was a caring person. But it seems clear to me that he had been living his own life for years. He didn't see Denise in person, choosing instead to write her letters.

Who knows if any of what you or I say is his truth? Only Prince knows. I just think it's a little idealistic or wishful to think that his whole life through, he really had re-kindling a romance with Denise on the back of his mind. lol.

When Prince wanted something, he went out and got it. Or at least tried.

There is a 75 page thread on Prince and Denise you should check it out? I stand by my observation. "At one time" wasn't it "used to love each other deeply.". Remember he honored her. He didn't have to say anything but he did he opened up and became very emotional. You think he would've done that for just anyone. No. She was special. While married to Mayte he stated "everyone thought I would marry Vanity." Who does that? Prince did. He was broken hearted Denise/Vanity had married someone else out of the blue. These are my thoughts my opinions you are surely entitled to yours. But I just could not imagine one without the other on this Earth alone. I believe certain things happen for a reason.....

Wow, she really must have left a lot of stuff, it's taking a long time to get a intimate letter between the 2 of them. The one he sent her when she was in the hospital is nice but he did that for all his past associates. Don't get me wrong it's nice to see, but hardly paints a uniquely deep friendship there.

Was he trying to ask you to see if it looks like they had a deep friendship? What more do you need stuff about sex? Enjoy what he shared and stop complaining. Some of the people here make me shake my head.

Actually yes to your first question that's exactly what we've been lead to believe over these past few months. I've seen no evidence in corrospondence of any intimate long-term friendship. And no I'm not a pig to gobble down anything and everything someone tosses at me, so no I'll never just enjoy for the sake of enjoying. Deliver what you promised, or I'll say something. Denise was a very beautiful lady inside and out, I like her so I have nothing negative to say about anything that's been shown, I just am leery of the motivation behind this.

Denise was definity a working actress with serious movie offers before meeting Prince. However, I can't debunk her history as Vanity. All I can say is that I've known her for 22 years and I never met that person.

The book "Actors as Artists" published in 1992, Vanity is in some very impressive company regard her art. The book shows two pieces of her art. The one called "Spot Dick" would not help if I attempted to debunk her former lifestyle.

In the February 26, 1985 newspaper article below her acting and art are mentioned, but what she does at the end... again would not help that argument.

Point being, there is nothing to argue.

Peace.

Try to remember I take no sides and prefer to keep my opinions to myself.

Obviously she did not send this copy otherwise I wouldn't have it.

Did she make a mistake, decide to send a different card with different poems,

not like what she had written re-write it and send another?

She makes a note about the phone call with a phone number (which I won't list) in a notebook with other poetry.

Smh

Like woe...

This is for your consideration however you wish or not:

Most times she looks the way that I want to feel.

You know that “happiness,” You fear it’s not real?

Don’t want to wake up from this dream,

to see life splitting at, it seams/seems,

she would lose it

if she misses one pill.

How do I describe the sparkle in her (eye)?

I say, “Did you see the purple clouds at sunrise?”

You know it just might rain

and you know life comes with pain.

She knows the chance is there

but this day she won’t cry.

She’s got a melancholy look about her.

A sad seductive look,

I’d think you’d concur?

She wears diamonds in her clothes

and somewhere I only know.

To look you’d think she had no concerns.

Rich men and pretty girls

this world will tell lies.

You know the Wolf? Now you need to know his disguise.

If they ask you what you want,

then they will give you just enough.

They pacify, then try to hook your mind

You don’t like it but that’s the way things are.

Run to your alter-state,

but now that’s to far.

I know you saw the clouds,

here it’s pouring now.

Who knew one purple raindrop could leave you such a scar?

She’s got a melancholy look about her.

A sad seductive look,

I’d think you’d concur?

She wears diamonds in her clothes

and somewhere I only know.

To look you’d think she had no concerns.

They don’t like to see a pretty girl frown.

Laugh and smile, “Just paint it on,” to be their clown.

They don’t want to see the truth,

a pretty girl gets ugly too.

Watch out! That smile just turned right upside down.

So let her cry,

she’s still my lady

Scary dreams are not just in the life of a child.

And when the rain falls down upon her,

she’s feel to show her sorrow in her style.

She got a melancholy look about her.

it's nice to see they were still in touch. it's not surprising, though. and there is nothing to suggest that they remained cordial occassional pen pals. no evidence of an everlasting love affair in these things.

In all respect are you looking for a love affair from them?

I think they were friends who had a relationship that on a different dimension than love affair. They were mature adults not 20 somethings looking for the Notebook love. They were living vastly different lives.

It speaks volumes to the respect and care they had for one another because urban legend has it that they had a tumultuous time as lovers and for them to overcame all of what between them back then and sense something in the other to remain as true friends is commendable and rare.

nope! every other person on this board seems to. and TOB presented these things as evidence of their ongoing romantic thing. i have never believed that they had an unreqited love, just exes that got back on good terms after the breakup.
