I agree angel. She was more than just a beautiful woman. Truley she had an artistic nature, was loving and kind, and had such a unique personality. It was totally not surprising to me that Prince was smitten with her when he met her...she was a powerful, unique woman. He proabably felt at the mercy of his attraction to her (not just a physical one), she was just a force. Not to judge Prince or anything but I read that she was attracted to Prince at the time because he took care of her and she saw him as a father figure, that always made me feel bad because I could only imagine the sense of betrayal she must of felt when she found out he was seeing other women and couldn't commit to her and how that must have triggered a lot of feelings from her past as her own father was horrible to her. I always wondered how painful that must have felt for her. She had been through so much pain in this life and truely transformed and did amazing work here before she left. heart

Thanks for sharing KK. I don't know a lot about her relationship with Prince. I also feel she did so well and worked through so much. She dealt with a lot of physical ailments and forgave her childhood issues and so on. What a remarkable gal!

Thank you for sincerely sharing Denise's letters with us and pictures of the memorable things she left to you. Please forgive the attempted humor in trying to figure out the meaning of Prince's letter to Denise. Sometimes humor is the only thing that alleviates the sadness. Do you have any idea when the letter was written or the circumstances behind it? It's touching of you to want to let us experience these items that are items that mean so much to you.

I honestly have no clue when the "Forever Letter" was written, but maybe in time I'll find the envelop or a reference to it and of when it was sent in a Datebook or some other writing of hers.

No worries about the humour, I too couldn't tell you exactly what it means.

I have an opinion, but I'm certain everyone else does also.

I believe Denise would prefer to have me sell anything and everything to the highest bidder, just to show off her worth. But, at the same time she knew me and knew I wouldn't, and knew where it would be most valued; Treasured.

to TOB thanks for sharing that what a sorrow ! prince needed her sometimes in his life !!!!!! love affair thanks again ......

yeahthat I find this a little odd. Hadn't they already been split up for 2-3 years when Parade came out. Makes me wonder if he modelled the Parade wardrobe on her clothes rather than her copying him?

Wow, she really must have left a lot of stuff, it's taking a long time to get a intimate letter between the 2 of them. The one he sent her when she was in the hospital is nice but he did that for all his past associates. Don't get me wrong it's nice to see, but hardly paints a uniquely deep friendship there.

Also by the looks of it I don't believe she got rid of all the "Vanity" stuff like she had said in those interviews over the years lol the proof is right there in those photos etc I wonder if she still had the gorilla coat or her boots from Vanity 6? hmmm

I have no idea how old that shot above is if you really want to know what I think. So with that I can't comment on what Ms. Matthews truly held on to and what she let go of. Seems so random.

As a poet, as I read some of her work I often found it a bit odd that her titles did not match and sometimes had nothing to do with the body of the write.

I did finding earlier versions of her poetry, but did not think much of it at the time.

Lastnight I realized that Denise might have altered her previously written poetry and put a spiritual spin on it.

Today reading her poetry from a different perspective and found something odd.

Compare the two and you be the judge.

Hi TOB...the first thing that came to mind is Prince's song, "Solo." I know some others will chime in soon, but wanted to make sure I shared my first thoughts. It looks like the one in 'flesh' parchment is the final version. Am I right about that?

Yes, actually, I believe the Watercolor to be original and the Parchment to be the final version also... I call "You" My Love, from Heaven above, my dream ill awaits you. You know.

Appears to have been altered to "I Dream You Awaken, My! My!

She made multiple copies the "I Dream You Awaken" and only a few of the other.

Wow! I have no words.

TOB please keep us updated with the gold you are finding in Denise's possessions she entrusted you with.

My condolences to you on the passing of your good friend Denise.

Thank you for sharing with us.

Honestly, it has helped me in sharing it with you. Otherwise I still would not have opened these boxes and I definitely would not have examined her writing critically enough to discern its nuance. I still haven’t read her other books and screenplays.

By the way, her last Instagram post, that image, Yes, also appears in her book, but it is also one half of a mirror-image card she made.

One half say "Dangerously" and the other half says "Beautiful."

Of course I initially assumed she was only referring to the Jellyfish.

Geez, take it easy on the guy. He did say the letters COULD be from Prince and he's pretty much asking for our opinions. No need to be so aggressive towards him. I don't think he's trying to pull one over on us. It just seems like he's trying to figure it out himself. sad [Edited 9/6/16 17:32pm]
-- Well I think we are letting him know that the sloppy handwriting on the one letter does not look right. I am sure Denice had friends and fans who wrote to her so maybe some of those letters got mixed in with Prince's.

The only reason why this letter caught my eye and why I set it aside was simply because of what was said in it.

Denise would never hold on to such a letter from a "Fan."

My take from The floral letter is it shows me she was a woman her prompted deep love and thought from those around her- she was not shallow. Denise seems to have been alot more than a sex crazed cokehead which is how she seems to be depicted in the Prince narrative and other narratives from the 80s early 90s-this woman hit rock bottom and lived a full life all her own; a life of dignity, grace and with that unbelievable beauty God gifted her with. She did not write nasty tell alls or go to tabloids to exploit herself or even Prince. She clearly was an artist in her own right and touched many lives as an Evangelist. I appreciate TOB sharing another side to her. It is a really nice thing to see how she evolved as a person who was so much more than a Prince Protege- she totally carved out another life. I look forward to learning more about her.

She’s complex, It’s complicated and or “D” all the above.

I don’t try to explain and I make no excuses for Vanity or Denise.

But, who would you rather listen to a sermon on “sin,” someone who knew nothing of it?

Without first Vanity there would not have been such an effective “Evangelist,” Denise.

The other way around…?

And, Yes, she was quite the artist, and I’ll share some examples of her creative soon.

Whoever you are to Denise, I thank you for sharing her past stuff with us. You shouldn't have to go searching through all of her things just to please inquiring minds. I wouldn't go digging to find some romantic letter because no matter what you share it will be disregard with more negative responses. I've learned from great observation on this community that Denise is put down a lot, disrespected, and dismissed to the point they seem like they are dying to erase Vanity from Prince's past. Too much negativity on this forum in regards to that woman. It actually makes me ashamed to come back here sometimes. Smh
