Official numbers out on Wed

Van Hunt only charted bumber 50 on the R&B charts. 07ven had slightly more press (not like Pandemonium.)

I was thinking about that too as I feel sales have been good. I don't listen the radio either and was wondering if anyone would know if Trendin was in rotation.

Nah, I think there would still be the "bashing" no matter what. Right or wrong a lot of fans can't get past the religion thing (and everything it that goes with it) with Prince. And I think that is the biggest reason for a lot of the current sniping at P.

I don't think the O7 guys need to be opening for Prince. They have enough of a backcatalog among the group with solo and Time stuff to be co-headlining with someone ...and not Prince unless it was a one shot deal. Now the F-deluxe folks maybe, but based on what I've read about that album I don't know if that would be a great idea either. I just envison it being like that Prince/Chaka/Larry tour where you had fans of each artist kinda not really interested in the other two. lol

u make a valid point that because of his religious stance it's put off his fans i agree with u on that. for me tho, it's about the music and if the music makes me move or not and with his last album only two songs moved me, sticky like glue and laydown and even laydown took me a long time 2 get into. we know he can do better even if it's pulling things from the vault but the fear would be him changing the lyrics 2 suit who he is today. the O7 is who they are today and it's great 2 hear them live that vibe.

There are a lot of musicians who got religious and still put out great material. I could care lessa bout the Witness thing if the music was still great. but it ain't (imo)

I have attended 8 shows from the last european tour and I have seen very various setlists and amazing long and intense gigs. You guys are so fucking unfair when it comes to P. He can do no right for sure.

I really think these associated artists have become a bit pathetic doing the same tricks over and over over the years.

Prince at least has tried many different genres. He has failed sometimes. But at least he has tried.

Now yeah I agree 20Ten is not his best CD ever obviously! But the day The Time will come up with music as adventurous as TRC, I'll change my mind.

But... it will never happen unfortunately.

they have the skill set to do it if they choose. Prince repeats himslef a lot, he's just clever about it. Many musicians do so that is not specifically a swipe at him. Try Jesse's solo albums, he has plenty of variety and takes risks.

"#Trendin" was actually the Most Added song on R&B stations last week.I even heard on a radio station here in the Bay Area lol

Bland? Not really!

1st I'd say they are totally different albums. There are some really good funk jams on "Gaslight". It's just the amount of too many moody ballads (indeed a W&L vibe) that slows it down too much.

Even "Condensate" with its poppy approach is too well crafted to call it bland as such.

Things that are "too well crafted" have no edge - which is my point.

I feel the same about this release. The productions is too heavy at times, not organic enough for me. Some tunes sound really bland. THat's what is bothering me.

And someone will have to explain to me how come some orgers can be so indulgent. I mean some tunes like Trending are plain awful.

Having said that this cd is enjoyable. I like it. But it is nowhere near a great album or even more the masterpiece some fans would like it to be.

No. They could never come up with TRC, One Nite alone, The Truth, NEWS, LotusFlow3r, the Gold Experience. Prince has tried a lot more than them and has released nearly an average of one CD per year. It makes a massive difference.

I know P is far from being perfect. He has repeated himself on Musicology or Minneapolis Sund for instance.

Moreover we are talking about a single man, not a full band composed with 7 musicians. Do you realize that at least?

Prince is a musical genuis, but he's been on Autopilot for many many years. He's not making bold, challenging music anymore. The last Prince album that I really got excited about was 'The Gold Experience' and that was way back in 1995.Just because a person can play alot of different styles doesn't mean they can always create an amazing album.

I can only agree with your statement when it comes to Musicology, MS or 20Ten.

That's what I'm getting at. They basically followed the blueprint laid out for them 3 decades ago and everyone is acting like they reinvented the funk wheel! The CD is great but it's nothing new from them. They could've released this at any time in the past 21 years and it'd still be good but it's a typical Time record.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I wish the fuckers that wanna still champion Prince in some manner would get the hell outta this thread. Take your shit back to the M&M group! This is about the O7ven's schweet ass album, "Condensate". People only compare it to some of Prince recent output because for one, we're on a damn Prince site (and let's not forget the fellas brought him up in their documentary too), and two, um, Prince HIMSELF has manufactured a "rivalry" with these guys for damn near their entire existence. So, once a comparison comes up, you wanna get your panties in a bunch and get all butt hurt and say people are being haters?! rolleyes GTFOHWTBS! Hell, I've heard people compare this album to "Gaslight"! Are they fDeluxe haters now too?! rolleyes

Anyway, back to my boys..."GoHomeToYoMan" is funny as shit. I was crackin' up listening to them verses! Hell, "Faithful" has got a couple of funny "playa Morris" lines in it too. I just hope radio comes around and gives this album a fair spin. I don't really listen to radio, so even if they were all over it right now, I wouldn't know. But something tells me, not too many folk know that they got back together and just released an album besides us die-hards. And that would be a shame for a very good album such as this. Good, grown, funky, and fun.

here u come with the red shit again..U KNOW I LOVE THE RED!! falloff

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I don't think anyone here is acting like 'Condensate' is some deep, revolutionary album lol I don't need a "revolutionary" CD from them,I just needed a fun and funky collection of jams, which is what they are known for.I would argue that their album contains all the fun and wildness that I don't hear in Prince's recent work.

I LOVE the record, but I do get what you are saying.

I think that everyone loving the new album just shows how hungry we all are to get that feeling we used to get when we listened to some good MPLS Funk.

This O7 record does just that. It re-kindles the flame of days gone by and it just shows me how much I have missed it.

Cause tomorrow is taking too long
and yesterday's too far away
and the reality that you believe in begins to bind.

very simple, if people can call the time on their shit then why can't we do that about prince? it would be different if 4 album he had a hiccup but in concert and on record he's had hiccup after hiccup. out of the albums musicology, 3121, planet earth, lotusflower/mplsound and 20ten, if u would 2 put the music on a graph chart u would see peaks and valleys. see i don't mind negative reviews of the album condensate it's not gonna phase me none, but if someone mentions that prince's material has been lacking then it's people being called haters of prince. double standard if u ask me

On the topic of the Condensate album. From what I have heard, I get the following impressions. And yes I make a few Prince comparisons, but get over it, it's just my take.

Faithful - sounds kinda like a Musicology-ish outtake; don't like the talking part, both Morris and P need to stop doing this

One Step- something about this I just don't like, very forgettable.

Lifestyle - sounds like Emancipation and Musicology slow jams stirred up together; ok song

Go Home to Yo Man- Ugh. too nasely, very 80's throwback R&B

If I was your Man - very poppy, very young sounding. Justin Beiber comes to mind. Not sure if I like this from The Time.

Trending - Not feeliing this, but it actually sounds like something that would have been on Morris' solo albums

Stawberry Lake - Good song but, too much of a Sly Stone rip

Condensate - Good classic Time track vibe

Sick - has to be a Jesse track, reminds me of Blondie

Hey Yo- No. Too modern R&B autotune; plastic

Role Play - Eh. Not a bad song but I'd skip it everytime

Cadillac - Good music, not feeling the lyrics or the call and response

Toast to the Party Girl - Eh. Probably sounds great live; very poppy.

Aydkmn - Ok. Sounds very familiar though.

As I said it seems to be a decent album. But I probably would only listen to one or two songs with any regularity.

That's what is bothering me about the new CD. There's no evolution from their previous releases and no growth in style. Jesse has progressed immensely as a solo artist but he could've done this music in his sleep. He's the best thing about the CD though. Whenever he cuts loose it's killer!

Hmmm I feel some growth in their music, not much reinvention, but growth and I would say Jesse most definately made the CD and Monte on the keys as well.

no not at all, i'm one that for over 25 years since PR have liked every prince album up until musicology where i started 2 scratch my head and ever since then i approach a new prince album with caution cause now i can see the cracks. the live shows of prince have been off for me since the jam of the year tour. i can't do the same with the time simply because of the catalogue they have whether it's their doing or not.

Good, grown, funky, and fun.

here u come with the red shit again..U KNOW I LOVE THE RED!! falloff

It's all about the strawberry!!!! Waahaaw! lol

what's wrong with championing Prince in some manner as you put it if that is what people feel when it comes to comparing this album and the whole Time story which involves Prince? aren't they entitled to their opinions too? and the only ones who seem to be getting their panties in a bunch are those who have a problem with some positivity being thrown to Prince when comparing. and for every fam word that gets thrown out in a derogatory manner, as it was done in a previous post, yes expect the hater word to get thrown back at them. and this is coming from someone who is on her 20th spin of the Condensate cd btw. I too think it rocks beyond belief!

Sure they're entitled to their opinions, but championing Prince and doggin' this album are two separate things. And those that champion Prince would probably never admit they liked the album, even if they truly did. They're probably the ones who also say The Time NEVER kicked Prince's ass on stage during the Controversy and 1999 tours!! lol
