Hi fellow orgers,

I wish I could hear the CD and watch the docu.

Since I'm in Europe, I cannot buy the limited CD/DVD.

Is there someone in the US who can buy 1 (of 2) copies for me? Of course I will pay the buying price + s&h! Please PM me...

Thanks in advance!

Condensate - funkier than anything the band has ever done.

#Trendin - a straight up killer Time song. Flawlessly delivered.

Roleplay- is sexier than anything the band has EVER done. Even the tuning of the kick drum is sexy. When the girl yells "That's my shiiit", funk guitarist are just sexual in general, so I'm thinking JJ had to write that part.

Sick is tight. It reminds me a bit of Terence Trent D'Arby. Might be my favorite song on the album.

Strawberry Lake - OMG! Unbelieveable.

Lifestyle - Completely on point. Quite possibly THE best slow song the band has recorded. I know that statement may sound shocking, but it's definitely a track you expect from the band that sings "Giggolos Get Lonely Too"

Faithful - uhm, I can't describe the track. It's throwback in some ways, but then again it's today. Again it's completely flawless. Morris is killing it all over the track.

And You Don't Know Me Now - Jesse and Terry, tight and funky! I guess those 3 man band parts of The Time Reunion shows formed the foundation for this track. Jesse kills it with a solo at the end.

One Step - This WILL ROCK live!!! I can't wait. It might be the BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM! It is too big for me to properly describe right now.

Toast To The Party Girl - If this doesn't sound like old school Dirty Mind Era Time/Prince songs I don't know what does. Yet again it's today, too.

GOHOMETOYOMAN - reminds me of Sometimes I Get Lonely. Just a beautiful, beautiful track.

The whole album is tight as hell, hardcore funk, soul and rock with a modern touch. The DVD is something to be seen. For those who haven't seen it, YOU WILL BE TOUCHED. There are a lot of Prince stories on it, so it's a MUST HAVE instant collector's item for Prince fans. In a lot of ways the fellas have delivered the product so many of us have longed for. In terms of the competition between OG7 and Prince, with this album, I mean they sound like the band in Purple Rain that is straight rockin First Ave, and now as fans we get the pleasure of hearing what they do, but also seeing Prince try to top this.

The album in HOT. If you don't pick it up you're missin' out on some solid Minneapolis funk, rock and R&B. It's a whole lotta fun and Price should be watchin' his back once again..

I only listened to it one time all the way through, here are my thoughts:

"If I Was Yo Man" has got to be the next single!! GREAT SONG!! I can't get the melody out of my head.

the title track is kicking my ass!!!! headbang

"Lifestyle" is the album's best slow jam (and there are plenty of em')

"Toast To The Party Girl" is an instant classic.

this album gets a thumbs up from me.... it was worth the wait.I'll have a more detailed review later on today.

Gonna watch the documentary tonight when I get home from work.

Listened to 'Condensate' twice on the way into work and I'm loving it!

Standouts for me are Strawberry Lake, #Trendin, Sick, Toast To The Party Girl & Go Home To Yo' Man.

They haven't missed a step in 20 years and this is a great album to remind us all why we loved them so much and why we'll continue to love them.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Oh and the DVD is amazing. So much info in it. They are extremely complimentary of Prince but they pull no punches and tell you the real deal of how things were for them on tour with him. Morris Dy is funny, but you can also FEEL his anger when he discusses how the name change thing has hurt him.

Romeoblu

Got an email from amazon uk this morning telling me my order was delayed and delivery wouldn't be until 8th November. No way I could wait that long so downloaded it from amazon.

Just on my first listen up to Trendin and loving it.

Hope the slow songs don't disappoint.

The Original 7ven(The Band Formerly Known As The Time) – Condensate(Recommendation)

(album review by Grown Folks Music)

This is one of those recommendations where in a way I had reviewed the album in my mind before I actually had the album. After vibing to the first single #Trendin a few weeks ago someone on the GFM team hipped me to the snippets of Condensate that had made their way to Amazon. I distinctly remember having two thoughts upon hearing the teaser: 1. This project is great for music and 2. Notice has been served: Musicians are at work here.

My thought behind why Condensate is great for music is that when you listen to the project that’s truly what you find contained within all the tracks music. What do I mean? Well you know how sometimes you can go to a restaurant(fast food) and there might be hamburgers or chicken listed on the menu and after you dine upon said food you question if that’s truly what you had. But then you can go down the street to the local restauranteur(whose employees you have seen standing in line behind you from time to time getting supplies at the store that sells high quality food items) and get the real deal that satisfies and is good for you. The notice that is served is that there really are musicians out there who still respect music and their fans enough to give them good stuff that’s good for them.

As I listened to Condensate I had to keep reminding myself who I was actually listening to and then my inner-voice would kick in and say “This is what songwriting/production/arranging/entertainment sounds like.” Ultimately when you combine all those elements together you are ultimately trying reach that level where you are just simply entertained. Condensate is definitely entertaining: I cannot tell you the last time that I’ve laughed and smiled this much listening to an album of music. I mean between the interplay of Morris Day and Jerome Benton, the skits, the wordplay of the song lyrics… the album feels like you were given an opportunity to literally just hang with the 7ven listen to some stories, music, jokes and just have a great time.

Musically Condensate is everything you would expect from The Band Formerly Known As The Time. I don’t mean in a predictable way or a recycled way. This is all new music with a 2011 sensibility but with all the fire and playing that used to be the standard in music. We know the folks who continue to uphold that standard for music and 7ven of them happen to be in the same band and decided to make a great new recording for lover’s of music. Did I just say band? Yesss!!!

The energy is apparent when Monte Moir, Jellybean Johnson, Jesse Johnson, Jerome Benton, Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam and Morris Day come together. You can hear the individuality but the sum of the parts… from Jesse Johnson’s incredible guitar work on cuts like “Sick” and “AYDKMN”, Jellybean’s drum work throughout and the personal fave “If I Was Your Man”, the aforementioned banter between Morris and Jerome plus Morris’ lead vocal/quaterbacking duties calling for solos and hits in a nod to the GFOS, the keyboard work on Monte and Jimmy Jam (a lot of those sounds you won’t find in a box), the bass work of Terry Lewis that locks the grooves in air tight.

Condensate is an album, not that you didn’t know that but the emphasis is on album something you can play from start to finish without skipping tracks. The recording will grab you from the outset: The opening skit into “Strawberry Lake” will have you ready to gas up the car put the disc in the player and hit the highway just to listen while you drive. It’s just that much energy emanating from the speakers that it implores you to want to experience the project uninterrupted in its entirety and sometimes you can only achieve that on a drive. My recommendation here is to pick up a bottle of the 30 year vintage in the form of Condensate out Tuesday October 18th.

Make sure to pickup Condensate right here.

It is a testament to how smart Jam and Lewis are as producers. There is a little more trend chasing that I like to see from veterans but Flyte Tyme knows how to make it work without completely compromising the identity of the artists. Look at their work with other legends like Chaka and Earth Wind and Fire - "Pure Gold" can pass as a Maurice White masterpiece from the 70s but sounds new enough to make people go buy it (which is what matters most in the music business these days). There is enough Time here to make it as close as you can get to a legit Time album (to be an authentic Time album, Prince has to be involved - and I assume he isnt invovled with this). In the end, it is not the disappointment I expected.

I am SO lovin' this shit!!! I haven't even listened to the album yet, but I'm watching the accompanying DVD. It's got a running time of 1 hour and 26 minutes. Schweet. It's a very thorough documentary, and it's a shame they couldn't include any of their previous music (as The Time). That fuckin' Prince.

Speaking of shorty, these guys haven't put an album out in over 20 years, and they can put a project (a great DVD with the music) together like this, but Prince can't?? Just goes to show he doesn't put any thought in his shit. Just puts it out with maybe a video shot for it, a talk show appearance or two (if lucky), and then he's done with it. Way to go, Original 7ven! I hope this isn't the last album/project for you guys, either.
