I am SO lovin' this shit!!! I haven't even listened to the album yet, but I'm watching the accompanying DVD. It's got a running time of 1 hour and 26 minutes. Schweet. It's a very thorough documentary, and it's a shame they couldn't include any of their previous music (as The Time). That fuckin' Prince.

Speaking of shorty, these guys haven't put an album out in over 20 years, and they can put a project (a great DVD with the music) together like this, but Prince can't?? Just goes to show he doesn't put any thought in his shit. Just puts it out with maybe a video shot for it, a talk show appearance or two (if lucky), and then he's done with it. Way to go, Original 7ven! I hope this isn't the last album/project for you guys, either.

"Bobby Z couldn't fuck wit me on his BEST day!" - Morris E. Day lol

lol I just watched the DVD and wow....this documentary is excellent!! Finally, their story has been told.I'm gonna watch it again.

but man the album is sweet!!

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I've heard about the first half on my way home from work after picking it up on lunch. So far..DAMN! This is good!

I seriously hope somewhere Prince has actually heard this and feels a little jealous. He should. For whatever petty reason he wouldn't let them use the name The Time they sure rose above it.

I just finished the dvd - I couldn't wait. It's a must see for any fan of the Prince family, and in general just a great documentary of a band's career.

And with a big middle finger to Prince... I refuse to call them anything other than The Time.

Now can we get a Revolution reunion album? and just have Morris or St. Paul, or someone even Lisa step up and do the vocals we know prince wouldnt? smile

Rock on guys.. this is how you make a good reunion smile

No matter what ill will or bad feelings you and others here wish for Prince he will be fine. A name could not have delayed any of them for not making music for so long. I am happy they all came together finally, to make it happen and if anything, it looks like its about to blow up big. This is an awesome time for real music and I'm so glad for this cd AND the DVD. I hope this is just the beginning for more to come for Prince, the Time, THe E Family, and even FDeluxe and W&L even though I don't like their recent music.

Condensate - funkier than anything the band has ever done.

#Trendin - a straight up killer Time song. Flawlessly delivered.

Roleplay- is sexier than anything the band has EVER done. Even the tuning of the kick drum is sexy. When the girl yells "That's my shiiit", funk guitarist are just sexual in general, so I'm thinking JJ had to write that part.

Sick is tight. It reminds me a bit of Terence Trent D'Arby. Might be my favorite song on the album.

Strawberry Lake - OMG! Unbelieveable.

Lifestyle - Completely on point. Quite possibly THE best slow song the band has recorded. I know that statement may sound shocking, but it's definitely a track you expect from the band that sings "Giggolos Get Lonely Too"

Faithful - uhm, I can't describe the track. It's throwback in some ways, but then again it's today. Again it's completely flawless. Morris is killing it all over the track.

And You Don't Know Me Now - Jesse and Terry, tight and funky! I guess those 3 man band parts of The Time Reunion shows formed the foundation for this track. Jesse kills it with a solo at the end.

One Step - This WILL ROCK live!!! I can't wait. It might be the BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM! It is too big for me to properly describe right now.

Toast To The Party Girl - If this doesn't sound like old school Dirty Mind Era Time/Prince songs I don't know what does. Yet again it's today, too.

GOHOMETOYOMAN - reminds me of Sometimes I Get Lonely. Just a beautiful, beautiful track.

The whole album is tight as hell, hardcore funk, soul and rock with a modern touch. The DVD is something to be seen. For those who haven't seen it, YOU WILL BE TOUCHED. There are a lot of Prince stories on it, so it's a MUST HAVE instant collector's item for Prince fans. In a lot of ways the fellas have delivered the product so many of us have longed for. In terms of the competition between OG7 and Prince, with this album, I mean they sound like the band in Purple Rain that is straight rockin First Ave, and now as fans we get the pleasure of hearing what they do, but also seeing Prince try to top this.

"Bobby Z couldn't fuck wit me on his BEST day!" - Morris E. Day lol

lol I just watched the DVD and wow....this documentary is excellent!! Finally, their story has been told.I'm gonna watch it again.

You can tell towards the end when they got around to talking about the name change that Morris was pretty pissed at Prince forcing them to find a new name. Regardless of what they said in their little Funkenberry interview, he (and probably the others too) was rightfully ticked! 'Rome tried to bring it on around by saying it was just a name, but Morris was breakin' that shit down. He was like, they ALL worked really hard in bringing the name and attitude of "The Time" to life so why was he claiming 100% ownership of it?!

Good point, Mr. Day!! But hey, this shit's finally out, so whatever! I'm really hoping this isn't a one-and-done project. I'm hoping they'll continue to make and release new music over the next few years. Let's not wait another 20 years, guys!

And yeah, the DVD is TRULY the definitive piece on the whole history of The Time/Original 7ven. I wish it was longer. The hour and a half just whizzed on by! The only thing that felt lacking on it was the absence of damn near ALL of their hits and videos (obviously withheld by the midget). Such a shame, too. disbelief I've never seen Jerk Off and Chocolate so much in my life! lol

Yeah, Morris is pretty sweet on them drums!! He should be thanking his lucky stars that Prince DIDN'T ask him to be a member of his band. He wouldn't be what he is today if he was just another discarded band member from 25 years ago.

Simply great cd and dvd documentary! Even though I am a big Prince fan, Prince was not needed for this project. The guys are all talented in there own ways and brought it on!!! Some great behind the scenes stories on the dvd. With all the great reviews coming in on the cd, will Prince be motivated to top this great effort? Saw the Original 7ven in Vegas a couple of years ago and looking foward to a Bay Area show soon.

Haven't seen the video yet but I could understand Morris being pissed, especially since he's kept the torch going as the front man for the band for so long. I hope Prince does watch the DVD and think and reflect but that's just me as an outsider looking in. Either way I wish them all the best and just happy we're getting new music.

From the "Documentary" thread:

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were on the Tom Joyner show Tuesday morning. Here are the URLs:

Pt. 2: http://v3.player.abacast....diainc.asx

They really went in on ol' boy Prince, in a joking manner of course. lol

I think "If I Was Yo Man","Sick","Lifestyle" and "Cadillac" are better than anything on those albums.

This new album holds together better than those albums, too. It's very consistent.
