OK, just UGH! Technically, the second half of the name is "Seven Ven," which just defies grammatical logic! My suggestion would be to spell it 7even - "Seven Even" - which, while no less grammatically proper, is at least cool in an ironic, John Lennon-esque way.

As a huge, and I mean HUGE Time fan, I am not impressed with the preview of Trendin'. It sounds a little better than the It's About Time material, and that is not saying much. I hope the rest of the album is better. So far, I like all of the new Family FDeluxe stuff better. Honestly, I like the Time better than the Family, so I'm hoping the rest of the song is better than this little piece.

As much as I love Prince, I'm in shock that he even cares about the ownership rights of the name. These new Time and Family albums are not going to make dollar one. They are doing them for themselves, and for the fans. I'm going to buy them no matter how good or bad they are. I've been waiting for Prince to grow up, but it's not gonna happen. I still love the little Purple Guy, and unlike most on this site...

I love his studio work, and think that most of his live stuff is over the top Vegas showman crap with too many covers, and too many songs missing lyrics.

Most on this site think his latest albums stink, and that his live performances are top notch. I admit, that there are moments of brilliance at most Prince shows, but I can only take so much of the "Put Your Hands Up" chants. I would put the count at over 100 for a few of the Carolina shows. Does a legend need to hype the crowd that much? Please.

Sadly, my last Morris Day show was full of medleys and snippets. Seems like they too, could be in decline. I'll still go to any Time show within 400 miles though.

The thing I like about #trendin, even though all we have is a short sample, but it is clear that this is a track very much in TODAY. It's for today's audiences and today's radio with enough of an old-school touch that the hardcore fanbase can still appreciate it if they are open to a little something new. This took some skill and some balls. They could have mixed it old school (phat bass lines, etc), but they clearly have CHOSEN to go with new school. And it sounds good. This is kind of the power of having Jam, Lewis and Jesse in your band. They give you the ability to compete on the highest levels. Is there any promotional dollars behind this project? I doubt it, but it wouldn't surprise me if black radio, well what's left of it, latched onto this song.

Not what I was anticipating, but I will sit tight, hang on in for the rest that's coming. The sound is not what I thought they'd be putting out either. I love the old school, vintage, classic Time sound. Hope there is some of that coming. I'll be optimistic in the meantime. I'm going to support it, see what comes of it.

30 seconds is enough to get a general idea of a track like this. Unless it is an extended groove, I wouldn't expect too many variations from the main theme, but the song is only 4:08 long so it is pretty safe to make that assumption.

Yes, it's concerning. What is odd is why he is kicking up a fuss about it now, when they have been using the name 'The Time' for years....it's odd why someone of Prince's stature is so concerned about it, it's like he feels threatened by them 26 years on...

Of course they did. Remember "Data Bank"? That was a song about those little digital address books that were briefly popular back in the pre-cellphone era. It was a bit of a radio hit for them off "Pandemonium". So a song about phone technology is in keeping with the band's history. Even still "trending" is being used in the song as just another way of saying "I'm Blowin' Up", "I'm doing well", etc. Something for the old, something for the new.

Ofcourse this is no discussion in that matter.

For the most people it will be harder to casually find them with a total new name. That's the thought behind it.

In your example. If U2 would rename theirselves after a while as 'Team of 5' it would be something you have to know before you find them in a adhoc search (unless someone referenced it somewhere).
