that's what a lot of y'all do when it comes 2 larry. y'all act like he put a gun 2 prince's head and said convert..instead of realising it was PRINCE that saught out Larry.

the man is a musical genius and a very nice 2 talk 2 if u got the chance 2 meet him. without larry, bass playing would have been nowhere the way it was being played then or now.

so step off haters and realize that prince was a grown ass man making his own decisions ..don't like it? 2 FUCKING BAD!!

it's been 12 years since they've hooked up ..get over it
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I ain't saying I don't like Larry as a person coz I don't even know him, but what I saw of him on the Rave un2 dvd and what I heard of him on the cd's he did with Prince, I dunno but I think Prince's music was at it's worst when he was around.

You said a mouth full "back in the day". Sometimes Ol' Skool" has to come along with the times yet keep that same feel.

I don't believe I ever said Larry made Prince do anything, I think I said that when Larry was in the band Prince released the worst music of his entire career, if u like the albums that Larry appeared on then good 4 u but I personally never listen 2 them coz I think they're crap.

So it's Larry's fault Prince put out a bad album???

I think Planet Earth was Prince's worst album, which Lisa & Wendy played on.

Is it their fault Planet Earth was a bad album???

I also never said that so stop putting words in my mouth, Planet earth wasn't his best album by a long shot but it was miles better than NPS and Rave un2, if u prefer these 2 albums 2 Planet earth then that's your choice.

Larry Graham as a bass player and song writer is quite different from Larry Graham as a JW and tainted Prince's mind about stuff.

Listening to old GCS albums, a few of which I own on vinyl, I don't think about the JW thing. However, I then hear something like "Everyday Is A Winding Road", then I cringe, I edit him out, and go back to trying to pretend that he never entered Prince's life.

Then I see New Power Soul sitting there. DANG IT.

I too think Chaka's was the best. I did a thread on this very thing a few days ago:
http://prince.org/msg/5/304327

GCS2000 is nothing like old GCS, and it's not even close to when Graham turned into a solo crooner. I love songs like "Betcha I", "Spoon", "I Remember U", "Reconsider". And although I love "Cha-ka" and "Queen La", I never quite got into "Pop My Clutch".

Larry Graham is a bass genius and a funk legend.

It is only on Prince-related sites I see him get any disrespect and that is because some Prince fans have convinced themselves he 'forced' Prince to accept Jehovah's Witness doctrine and become baptised.

If Larry was on-stage it was because Prince wanted him on stage. If Larry was playing bass (bloody well as it happens) it was because Prince wanted him playing bass.

In fact, to my knowledge it was Larry himself who chose to leave his regular spot in Prince's band around 2000 or so.

I saw Larry live in '98 and thought him amazing. I loved the aftershows with him included. I barely even noticed Larry on 'NPS' or 'RAVE' until I hit the 'net. Larry is hardly responsible for those albums.

For the young haters that may not know, Larry and P have known each other since 1979. They were both on the same label at one time. And P has already mentioned this.

P wouldn't even play the bass the way he does if it wasn't for Larry.
