Would you support splitting up the Prince: Music and More forum?

Splitting it into at least 2 forums so the people that wish to discuss the music can do so without wading through all the threads about Prince's clothes, photos, and such, and vice versa?

What do you think?

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I think that would be covered in the "How hot is Prince's Ass subforum".

Just thinking, how would you stop people posting silly stuff in the music section? It's bound to happen.

Would there be more regular moderation?

How about more regular reporting? It's been said before, but mods do not read every thread, we rely heavily on the users to let us know about things.

Hardly any of the threads that many label "stupid" in the M&M forum now get reported. I suppose some of that is because there is no place for them currently. They don't necessarilly break any rule, they are just what most fans would choose to not engage in.

I don't want to get bogged down in the how right now, as that and the proposed split are not my call. I'm just asking for opinions on the possible split.

Sounds like a good idea.

I know it's been brought up before, but maybe the site also needs a "jungle gym" style forum for all the nonsense threads (ie. anything that would normally literally get locked simply for being nonsense, be it in P:M&M or somewhere else).

I realise there's probably a fine line at times between the "more" aspect of "Music and More" and complete nonsense, but as has been said, some aren't lock-worthy, but a separation between music and non-music (clothes, photos, etc...) makes sense - I think people would report threads more frequently if they knew they had a place to go.

A third 'catch-all' forum could direct those who want the nonsense threads (Prince related or otherwise) into their own rubber room area and perhaps minimise the number of times similar threads get started (on account that that they've been locked and sunk so people think it's a new idea). Of course, that means letting some really stupid threads run their course and that could still get messy for the mods confused It would at least presumably reduce debates about what is normal, garden variety nonsense and what actually needs to be locked.

In any case, a split (at least) is a good idea imo.

I think it's a great idea to split the topics and also encourage others to report more often. With as fast as threads get greated around here, there's no way the mods can keep up.

But in GD it can be about anything.

I imagine that the split would be something like "Prince Music" and "Prince: The Fam Experience".

I think Serena is addressing my "jungle gym" idea, which I'd suggested in addition to a split (love the suggested names, btw!)

My intention had been to address the third variable, which are threads that are literally locked for being nonsense threads (as opposed to "Why does Prince dress like an old lady" and "If I was in an elevator with Prince what would I say/do" etc...)

I'm not sure GD would be happy with threads like "Do you think Prince has bellybutton lint" being moved into their forum, nor would that even really qualify as part of "The Fam Experience". So either those threads need to keep getting locked, or else shuffled off to something that could be called "The asylum within the asylum" or something of that ilk wink

That said, I realise I probably muddied the waters with this suggestion, so perhaps better to keep it simple and address that (or not) at another time.

Maybe instead of a term that some use as an insult, it could just be Prince - Music & Prince - General Discussion.

Yeah, maybe not, but with some of the threads they have there, they're just as bad if not worse than some of the crazy Prince threads. So just throw the real crazy stuff in there, they probably won't even notice! lol

Great idea!! yes yes yes

Also, a photo only section would be good. I really don't want to look at reply/w photo's to read what Orger's are writing!

Iv'e said it before there is no need to reply/w when 20 pictures have already been posted. To get to the bottom and read what someone has posted takes ages to scroll down.

on Prince Music and More right now there is reply/w quotes..................

it's stupid and pointless

she is always in my hair thread!

STOP RE-POSTING PHOTO'S IT'S POINTLESS

Can we not just have a photo only thread..............

This is symptomatic of the overall problem - those who think, for example, the photos are pointless, and others that think the photos "make" the threads and the whole forum experience.

(Granted, why so many insist on leaving already-posted photos in their replies, leading to a monstrously long thread with every photo posted multiple times, continues to baffle the rest of the class)

I assume you mean a photo only forum (not thread), but I think if Music and More was split, photos would be fair game in the "More" forum, pretty much by definition.

But you raise an interesting point. The SAIMH thread is discussing music, and as such would presumably belong in "Music", but is accompanied by enough photos to land it some votes for a roadtrip to "More".

Moderation could be a bit of a headache at times with more decisions to be made (and quickly disputed).

I think a lot of people don't know how to edit out extraneous stuff from the reply box. There probably could be a coding change to strip out the images when replying, which would be nice.

The worst part is that many people quote looooooooooooooooooong posts or endless strings of pics just to post 'OMG!' or 'Ditto!' or a smiley below it. Or they quote 17 pics to say 'Eye love the 2nd 1!'.

When that is the case, people, we sure can live without such 'contribution'.

To be fair, the forum software running this site is ancient compared to today's standards. The clunky and abusive method of creating single-themed huge threads is one thing that immediately comes to mind (why not implement merging?) as well as the fact the edit boxes are grossly buggy. There are times where it seems the quote tag is broken permanently and you HAVE to either top post or post within the quote which is super fucking annoying and amateur.

Just click the quote icon again and it ends the quoting. Works for me each and everytime.

What do you think?

I get the gist of the idea, but what would fall under the term "music"? Everything relating to it, or strictly speaking, only the music?

I work in Chrome, so perhaps its still a problem because of that. I've never been able to fix it when its like that. Point is: it shouldn't be and its bad coding. I can't recall a forum I have posted on for a long time that had such shoddy work.
