Splitting it into at least 2 forums so the people that wish to discuss the music can do so without wading through all the threads about Prince's clothes, photos, and such, and vice versa?

What do you think?

I get the gist of the idea, but what would fall under the term "music"? Everything relating to it, or strictly speaking, only the music?

I took it to mean just the music.

"Everything related to it" would put us back in the same boat.

I would hope that threads that ask what the best/worst/sexiest/silliest...etc. song would go under "& More" since they are just opinions and nothing substantial about the actual music.

Just my twocents

YES!! YES!! YES!!

I would love to visit a music forum where we only discuss the music. I don't visit there at all now because I am sick of wading through the bullshit.

Ultimately, pretty much everything is going to be just opinions, so I think we'd end up with a very little "Music" forum if it also excluded people's opinions of best/worst songs or albums. What about when people put up the "yea or nay" threads - they're just people's opinions, but do they go in "Music" or "More"? I'd think, surely Music.

As for the sexiest/silliest, etc.. that's a trickier call, but still, if it's predominantly a music-based discussion, it still belongs in Music imo.

Once all the photo threads, games, jokes, cookbook ideas, nonsense and borderline nonsense threads are in "More", I don't think the "Everything related to it" part will put us back in the same boat - there will be much less to wade through and there's always potential to have a meaningful discussion about the music in those best/worst/etc... threads.

And, as with anything, if they degenerate into silliness, they can be moved across, just as an innocent thread that turns religious/political in nature generally gets whisked off to P&R.

That sounds fair. nod

I was thinking more of those threads where people don't "discuss" the music or give reasons to back up their opinions, but rather just berate others for liking/not liking songs.

And then there are the excited "I LUV EVERYTHING HE DOES!!!" fallinluv people, and the "Everything he has done since For You is $#!&" hrmph people.

Nothing objective.

It would be trial and error for awhile for sure, but I would think discussion of his music and how it is made vs what shoes he wears and dick outline pics.

It may need more than just 2 forums.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

lol for sure

obviously pictures, shoes and clothes don't have that much to do with the music, but I am sure some would disagree with that.

Question is where do you draw the line?

I can totally relate.

However, wouldn't a thread about "the best of this or that song/album/show etc" fall under the term "music"?

Other examples:

a news article mentioning the music

a rumour about a new album,

actual news about a new album, concert, etc

or better, an actual official announcement of a new album, concert

discussion on the personal side of the music or personal issues the music may or may not relate to

discussion on the business side of the music or songs about the business side of the music

??

How would a MUSIC ONLY actually look like?

Not saying splitting it up in some form will ever work better. However, the forum isn't called Prince music AND MORE for nothing.

also, there is already a concert forum, a past/future/present website forum, a fan gathering forum, an associated artists forum and a market place forum.

I think what people are actually asking for is a Prince Famdom & Other Bullshit forum.

A discussion on the rainbow children, or dear mr. man, or sign of the times, or the holy river, or ronnie talk to russia, whatever song that involves politics, spirituality or religion could be moved to P&R straight away, but would that do justice to a forum that is about the music, when the discussion is actually also about the songs and/or prince himself?

Why not just create a filter system. Say, before you post a thread you get one of the above categories that the thread belongs too. That way, if someone wants to filter "music" and see only music threads, they are empowered to do so. If someone wants to filter to "gossip", they can. Otherwise, it's the same for everyone else.

I voted "no" because I think it would just cause more confusion. Even now topics come up that are borderline between one forum and another. Splitting the forum up even further would just make it harder to surf through, harder to moderate, and harder to know where to post something.

It's impossible to discuss the "music" without talking about the "more" and vice-versa.

I say just leave it as it is.

It's fine the way it is.

It never ceases to amaze me that people bother to click on threads and then rant and rave until the thread catches fire (like all mine do) hating on the thread. Just don't click if it's not related to something that interests you about Prince.

A forum that is just about Prince's music would be hard to define (after all, what aspects of his music? The business? Lyrics? ect. etc.) and equally repetitious in the end.

And I'm dismayed by all the threads that get locked as "nonsense" in that forum. Sure, there's a lot of crap in it, but it's a bit over-the-top now with all the locks. What is nonsense? Has anyone read an Prince interview lately? That's pure nonsense! lol

I say leave well enough alone. The forum has been around for years, has ebbs and flows.

It's like watching CNN news. When there's no disaster or OJ isn't committing some crime, the news stories get a bit ridiculous. Likewise, when Prince isn't giving us anything to talk about musically, folks are bound to venture out with other things to say.

Additionally, not every fan on the org has been a fan from the beginning. They're going to ask silly questions looking for quick answers that many folks already know. So what of it? This site absolutely sucks when it comes to design , layout, aesthetics and search-ability. Don't get me wrong, it's superior to anything Prince has ever had created. But it still leaves newbies confused navigating through the mess when they can just post question on that forum.

Only one man is allowed to judge.

Only one man is allowed to pass judgement.

Only one man should decide what content in your life should or should not be locked....Steve Jobs.

*Prince Music fam experiences

*Prince Music nerds

*Prince Music sharing

*Prince Music techs

As for the original question, I don't think it should be split. PM&M gets bogged down with the photos and the clothes and talking about how he looks so young, but if you take all that away, there's not much talk about musically. When there is, it is basically an appreciation thread for one song where the original poster asks something like, "Am I the only one who likes this song?????" To which the simple answer is always and will forever be "No". 5% of the actual music threads in PM&M are genuine questions about a song or album, or a synopsis of an album era, but those aren't actually that interesting, especially if you've lived through that era and already know all the details. If PM&M was split, the Prince: Music side of the forum would be, for the most part, boring and repetitive. Prince has a lot of songs, but not THAT many, certainly not enough to keep a thread solely devoted to his music going unless he started releasing albums a few times a year.

I do think that there should be a separate Prince Pictures forum though. Those threads don't come around super often, but it'd be easier to sift through a few threads when you're looking for a specific picture rather than go back a month and a half and have to sift through all the mud in order to find it.

time flies.
