Seriously, who is not planning on subscribing?

I am so excited about the launch, that I can't imagine anyone here is seriously considering not seeing what the site has to offer. We all have had plenty of time to save our pennies. So be honest.... who is going to wait it out and who is 100% on board?

it depends for me..

there hasn't been any detailed information on about the site. and the swirling rumors about his past catalog are just bogus if you ask me..

If I find more out about what will be offered.. I don't mind shelling out the money. but I'm not for downloads of the new album a t-shirt, and some videos..

nah..

That is: I'm not.

Please, people, be considerate in your comments to those of us for whom $77 is a LOT of dosh!

I'm not. I have no interest in prince's photoes, or video footage. It is curious that a man who is telling to his fans to believe in truth, in real values, is going to sell for 77$ images of himself.
If prince is a good composer, musician and singer, ok, I'll buy lotus flower cd, because I'd like his way to handle music, but I do not want to support his hey-I-was-a-pop-star! way to sell nothing for money.

I can understand that.
Luckily I can afford the $ 77,=
The only thing I am curious about, is if he's gonna tour in Europe.
If not, the Europeans won't benefit from the presale of the concert tickets...

I would see that for now it does not look like he will tour Europe anytime soon.
There were no real announcements, except for the LALA land things recently.

I will not be subscribing to the site as described in the press release.

$77 for photos, videos, photos, possible ticket pre-sales, photos, a t-shirt and some photos?

I started this journey for the love of the music. I wouldn't have cared if he looked like Joey Ramone's ugly cousin. His physical image means nothing to me. His cool factor had nothing to do with his pretty face.

A musician's subscription website with no music? Prince has lost his way.

Well, you do get to download the 3 CD's and I am hopeful there will be more music.

just in terms of getting a good break on tickets, his sites have paid off for me in the past. that's enough to make me shell out the $77 this time around.

I'll get those from Target. For $12.

Unless the downloads are offered as lossless FLAC or OGG files, the sound quality of the files will suffer greatly. Digitally, there is no sonic substitute for a Red Book standardized silver CD. A CD is encoded with a bitrate of 1411.2 kbit/s. Compare that to a mid-range MP3 of 256 kbit/s, you're missing a lot of sound. Contrary to popular belief, those missing bits are easily noticed.

I've said it plenty but I'll say it again, I'm joining next week. If for nothing else, I want to get access to the tickets the way it was with the NPGMC. It really was a great deal and to be that close to the stage was priceless.

The pre-sale tix were a very good deal. I got excellent seats.

I'm really kind of done with Prince concerts, though. After the 2002 Celebration week, nothing holds a candle to that experience. I went to the 7/7/07 show at Target Center, had $77.31+fees nose-bleed seats, was sickened by the $75 dollar t-shirts, took my stinky 3121 perfume sampler and left. The concert did sound good... in a muffled sort of way. I won't do arena shows any more.

i *might* be done with aftershows (unless they're at first ave, that is!) and unless he starts mixing up his set lists again (which seems increasingly doubtful) i don't know that i'm gonna go out of my way to see multiple shows on a tour. but if he comes to town, i wanna see him at LEAST once. and i'm sure my friends can talk me into going more than once, so the fan site discount will come in plenty handy. nod

I am in two minds at the moment (and I'm not whingeing here Anx! wink )

As I'm in the UK ideally I would buy the Lotus Flower 3 CD Set and at the moment that's going to cost me £32.99 best deal.

On top of this an extra £54 to join the new website and get the download versions is a bit steep (although I am lucky enough to be able to afford it). I'm really not bothered about getting a T-Shirt neutral

But on the other hand if I can get the CDs very cheaply in a few months (or sooner if the price drops in the next 10 days), and the website has a couple of limited time only exclusive tracks, and some cool live concert footage that I can somehow save and keep forever (and then somehow find a way burn to Video-CD or DVD format so I can watch it on a TV away from the PC) I don't want to miss out.

It's that first week only stuff that has me. I didn't join the 2001 NPGMC and still feel as if I am missing tracks and AHDIO shows (I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to officially released stuff be that CDs or website downloads).

I'm still weighing it up.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I dropped a grand to fly to Vegas for one show (airfare and ticket alone) a couple years ago. Do you really think I'd think twice about $77? lol

At this point, the only thing I'd shell out that kind of money for is a tour reuniting P with some iteration of his band, say, 1982-1988 or a drop of the clean, properly mixed full versions of material that has long been on the bootleg circuit.

$77.00 a year to be entertained by my favorite musician is well worth it.

I'm not and it's not about the money. For me, it's the principle! Where I come from loyalty deserves respect! No matter who you are, how talented you, how fine you, etc. None of that means a damn thing without loyal people in your corner supporting and encouraging you and your efforts. Be they family, friends, associates, co-workers and even fans. Prince would have been a washed up has been, long ago had it not been for his loyal fan base that continued to support and encourage him when the mainstream wouldn't look at him twice.

Do I think he owes us something for that? Damn right, I do! He owes us his respect! He owes us the respect of treating us like the loyal fan base that we are! I can think of a whole slew of washed up has beens that would kill to have had a loyal fan base like his.

Does that mean he has to give us free stuff? Of course not! I'd be content if he'd just treat us professionally as the business man he is supposed to be, that appreciates where his money comes from! Instead of the cash cows, he thinks he can continue to milk at will, by dangling carrots of "exclusivity" that just never seem to materialize.

I've had enough of that. These udders are on hiatus until further notice! razz

I can understand hesitation on some people's parts, but I'll be there. The $77 is all right with me at this point in my life, and I've definitely spent more on worse things. I also have some faith (maybe this is naive) that there will be a lot of worthwhile stuff, like unreleased songs, on there. It's a risk I'm willing to take. Over the years, I've spent a lot of money on Prince, sometimes wisely, sometimes not. In the '80s, when I had very little money, I not only bought every album and 12-inch, but I would buy the 45s of all the singles, knowing that those 45s would ultimately be worthless to me--the A sides would be on the album, and the B sides would be on the 12-inch. Those are much smaller examples, pricewise, but some 25 years down the road, I'm not about to get any tighter with my cash regarding Prince.

i bought all that stuff because it was available and i wanted it. it had little to do with loyalty. he's offered stuff that i didn't buy because i didn't want it. that had little to do with disloyalty.
