the members should have been given more things to buy that they would actually want or could actually use. i did my part - i bought one of the 3121 mugs - but where could i wear one of those 3121 shirts??? great design, but not especially the most stylish fashions in the world. the prices weren't at all competitive either. there's a merch goldmine to be had with prince, it just hasn't been fully realized.

Prince is sitting on mountains of material that he could be releasing through the club.

He could be selling DVD compilations of all his videos, including the old obscure ones, complete concerts from the 80's to present, those things would sell big time.

Make his entire catalog of albums available online for sale, even the ones that have gone out of print, and throw in a few rare extras so people buy it from his site and not itunes or some place like that.

i get the feeling he's all about being more miserly than ever with his music, for whatever reason. and it's really his prerogative, whether we like it or not.

still and all, as far as merch goes, i'd buy any funky little piece of crap that had artwork from his classic albums on them. a coaster set with all the singles cover art from 'parade'? i'm there. an ATWIAD mobile? why the hell not, let me get my credit card. i mean, fun collectible tchotckes like that would get people buying stuff in lieu of no new music being offered. of course, the music is preferable to the trinkets, but it's not hard to be creative with prince's backlog of imagery.

I Don't think I'll miss the NPGMerchandiseClub. Hopefully the next venture will put more emphasis on the music. The recent demo was about the most exciting thing that happened in the old club.
RIP sad

If that's the case we'll never have an official website because that is always going to happen.

If the merchandise was something special and unique I would buy it. Maybe like reprints of the classic album covers, that are suitable for framing, or lithographs of rare images from his photo shoots with people like Herb Ritts and Jeff Katz, etc...

maybe he can take a few days and check out DAVIDBOWIE.COM and get some ideas of how to do it right.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

i think a lot of us saw prince's growing disinterest in NPGMC...i think he felt an obligation and an affinity to the fans who frequented the site and his shows, and that's the only thing that kept him giving us even the little bits and crumbs that we've gotten over the past couple of years.

also, i think the club was a bit of an albatross in his dealings with major labels. they want 100% of prince all through them, and here he is with this "independent" resource for releasing music. maybe the next phase will be more label-friendly.

and that opinion is based on what?
did/do you have a direct connection to ascertain his thinking on the matter?

not that bowie's exactly a font of charisma on his own site anymore. he does pipe in now and again with a diary entry or a podcast interview. still, the news section always has beat NPGMC's excuse for a news forum.

There may have been some merchandising issues; I know the next chance I get, I'll buy as much of that music as I can. But I think, that phase of the experiment had run its course, and perhaps w/ the Vegas move coming up he won't have as much time. He was prolly much more personally involved in the day to day of the music club than we realized. If memory serves, somebody spotted him and Tamar on a laptop at a venue in the UK. If it is Vegas, then I hope he can get folx some kind of package deal. jmo

Is he still planning to start a U.S. tour this month?

4 weeks.....

and where is that "tour" going to play?
dates are booked several months in advance for even small - med venues.
US tix are sold at least 60 days in advance.
here in europe - 3 months in adv.

if what you are speaking of is a full-blown multi-city traditional tour - not possible until 2007.
a hit-run type ONA "tour" maybe, but no concert halls or arenas.

yeah... i am just peeved... SNIFF SNIFF... but i do assume a few things:

1) the new music club (3121.com) will launch in full soon

2)and they will charge a membership fee (yearly fee not lifetime)

3) AND IT WILL BE GREAT

4) either no tour or no good seats for us this summer

but I just do not want to pay again for what was promised to be lifetime membership!

i just wonder how they are going to work it as to get around the lifetime thing? i assume there was some clause in the 'contract' that said the club can close if they see fit and no refunds. but still...

Highly unlikely cos Jehovah's Witnesses don't have any power at all to influence anything let alone shut down a website. Thats not how Jehovah's Witnesses opearate anyway

All I wanna know is if Prince-speak will live on. I just love it when people who's music i don't love talk/type like Prince. Reading belligerent and confusing messages with non-existent grammar isn't just fun--it's awesome!
