Prince Headlining Rally 4 Peace Concert in Baltimore!

Posted: May 05, 2015 6:24 PM PDTUpdated: May 05, 2015 6:24 PM PDT
BALTIMORE -

Music superstar Prince will be headlining a special Rally 4 Peace concert on Mother's Day in Baltimore.

Sunday's concert will be held at the Royal Farms Arena and the funk-rock group 3RDEYEGIRL will also be performing. LiveNation also says other industry superstars are expected to attend.

“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the US," said in the concert announcement release by LiveNation.

Those attending the concert are being asked to wear something gray in tribute “to all those recently lost in the violence.”

Prince recently recorded a protest song called “Baltimore” following the death of 25-year old Freddie Gray and is a tribute to all of the people of Baltimore.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local Baltimore-based youth charities.

After recording a tribute song for Baltimore, Prince is headed to the city with his longtime band, 3RDEYEGIRL, for a special concert. The "Rally 4 Peace" show is set for this Sunday (May 10) at Royal Farms Arena. Prince's goal is to use this concert as a "catalyst for pause and reflection" after the killing of Freddie Grayand the ensuing protests. Fans are encouraged to show up wearing gray as tribute.

That would be cool. Might be just attending tho. Says nothing about them performing. Maybe RayLewis n other Baltimore figures perhaps.

Good to see he's headlining the "Rally 4 Peace" concert! So...is this an event that will be broadcasted in some sort of way?

It's the press release that states:

"LiveNation also says other industry superstars are expected to attend."

.

Not known yet who else is performing but I bet there's plenty of "stars" who like to participate!

Ummm...Beyonce has been voicing her opinion about Baltimore right?! JayZ?

.

In case "Baltimore" gets released through Tidal this makes more and more sense...

I doubt that Beyonce or Jay-Z would be playing if they are not the headliner. I know this is a biased site but realistically nowadays Prince would open for them. I know this will offend people here but Beyonce would be opening for noone except for maybe her hubby nowadays. They may attend but I don't see them performing. I hope they announce the other artists before tix go on sale. I would like to go but not buying just for Prince. If we get a decent lineup of artists(at least 1 other major or 2 decents smaller ones to make it worthwile) though I will try and go.

Not sure if I agree, I can see Prince calling Beyoncé and ask her personally for participation for the good cause. Would she say no? I kinda doubt that...

Also...the media group taking care of Prince's PR is also doing that for Beyoncé: http://www.schuremediagroup.com

Hopefully a decent line-up of artists indeed and I agree it would be nice to know when tix go on sale...

I noticed R.Kelly is performing at the same venue on the 9th...maybe he'll hang around for the peace rally?

I think it's great that Prince is doing this but I hate this poster. Not the image but the writing. In previous posters it's been Prince & 3rdeyegirl. In this poster it looks like 3rdeyegirl are the special guest. Interesting that he's putting distance between him and them. Second I dislike that he's put special guest. If there are going to be more than one guests then he should have made it plural. As it stands I wouldn't be surprised if it's Judith Hill.

Anyway, just being picky. Will be interested in the price of tickets, will probably rule most of the poor, black residents of Baltimore unable to go anyway sad

Maybe Prince is playing a solo set first?!

An acoustic set would be fitting and poignant. It's great that he's being so forthright on such an important issue.

Right now that is what Baltimore needs, some healing and positivity. Good that Prince is doing this rally 4 Peace concert, and hope many youth in Baltimore can attend. It will also bring money in for local Baltimore businesses. Would be nice if Toya Graham and her son be given free access. Also Freddie Gray's parents, Mike Brown's parents, and Trayvon Martin's and the others who lost their loved ones should be granted free access in tribute to this rally.

A portion of the profits? It should be 100 percent. I know how the portion game works. Is Prince trying to profiteer off of this? He should play a free concert in a park somewhere being as most of the people effected will not be able afford to attend.

Prince is getting a lot of negativity nationwide for this concert. He is being called out as being opportunistic. Also, for supporting a career criminal. Yes, a separate issue than the manner in which he died.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I agree wholeheartedly. As soon as I read "portion of the profits" I knew the good will Prince generated with announcing a "Rally 4 Peace" concert would be dampened by criticism that was using this moment to get publicity. I wonder if only a porition of the proceeds is going to charity if he's paying for the expenses related to the concert on his own instead of having a sponsor to underwrite it. Not to mention that it's on short notice, that would certainly affect the logistics of organizing a free concert this quickly. Since a portion of the proceeds will be given to a charity, it would be good to disclose which charities will receive it. With that said though, Prince gets major props for doing thsi concert in the first place because Baltimore as a community can use the healing that comes from being united by music.

Or broadcast the concert so that he reaches even more people in his attempt to "catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the U.S."
