man, i want to do it but honestly i can't justify $500 from the budget right now. I could do one orchestra pit ticket at $250 but my wife would never let me live it down, to go w/o her. i've seen him several times, but these would easily be the best seats, its just not in the budget. SIGH

I'm in the same boat as you. Would love to see him but not in the budget

I'm with you. I had the chance to snag one ticket when they went on sale, then, instead of buying the one I tried to get two...couldn't get two and when I tried to change the number of tickets back to one it came up unavailable. Been trying ever since without success. I live in Cleveland so it wouldn't have been a long drive....damn it...lol

Another question, just trying to make Monday as easy as possible. My wife will be trying for tickets while I'm at work.

.

Is it advisable to buy tickets directly through LiveNation, or Ticketmaster? I have read in our local newpaper (app) that tickets will be available through both vendors.

.

Thanks in advance! I haven't seen Prince since 2004, but in '04 was lucky to see him a few times.

livenation and ticketmaster are the same thing. livenation owns ticketmater

Great Show!

Judith Hill is the best find Prince had in years, i enjoyed her .

The final song to the night was The Love We Make

Clouds was the only song from AOA, nothing from PE.

Going to bed now.

Great show even though my wife and I were soaked from head to toe. What a clusterf$%k getting in! That really sucked!

.

It was obvious he was trying to please everyone with hits. Most of the songs were sung with all verses and not shorted medleys. That was cool. There was way too much sampler stuff for me though. There was a large part of it during the show and he returned to it for one of the encores.

Like I said he was trying to please the crowd so I get it. Songs like Clouds, Act Of God, and The Love We Make didn't get much of a response from the crowd imo. Seems like many of the people there would have been happy with a whole show of the sampler set. chatterbox

.

They DID have the no camera rule but Prince told everyone to whip out their phones during Controversy and everyone from that point on had their phones up in the air recording. The ushers started shining bright lights directly at the ones who kept recording and eventually escorted them to the back where it looked like the were making them erase what they had recorded. One lady close to us with her 9.7" ipad was being taken aside and they wanted here password to get into it. Why would you bring that to a concert and expect not to be seen? LOL!

.

He did mention coming back to Detroit a couple of times during the show. Said something about the Palace and then made a joke or comment referring to Tayshaun Prince. I'd bet he planned on multiple shows and it didn't work out but gave the impression it will happen down the road. Just my take on it.

.

EDITED: I added a few more with the help of dustoff and trax. I'm terrible with setlists right after a show but here's what I recall. Sampler set stuff all runs together in my mind(not in the exact order and missing a few)

Good write up, reads as accurate to me. People making a big deal out of the "5 encores" thing but really it was more like six short sets. He also played What Have You Done For Me Lately, Nothing Compares 2 U (not as a duet, that was cool) and The X's Face (for about 2 seconds).

Good show BUT.....3EG just ain't doing it for me

Some of the arrangements were tailored to mask their weaknesses
I see why the sampler set is in place
Sad to say it but Hannah can't keep the groove in the pocket
She's good for the rock stuff but she fell apart during the funkier songs
And he needs a rhythm guitarist to help Donna out
Because he was using a recorded bit for the Kiss opening lick which means Donna's not a rhythm girl.
Ida was awesome and so was the NPG Horns
Cassandra needs more of the spotlight
minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

-...................(there are more but maybe someone else can fill in the blanks

She always in my hair

kiss

gospel song with judith hill

clouds

encore medley jam(can't really remember other than dancing machine

My overall thoughts. The started crazy good with Lets Go Crazy and Take me with U. Raspberry and U got the look were also good crowd openers. Musicology was a personal downer for me. I am just so burned out on that one. He then went to a really weird sampler karaoke set that just seemed really weird and against what I always thought Prince stood for. I wasn't feeling it honestly. I would rather see him play it rather than playing prerecorded samples but the crowd seemed to like it. I just wasn't feeling this part of the show. Controversy was ok but seemed really short. 1999 sounded great. HCUDCMA was one of my highlights!! GREAT but again a little short. Pretty much the original version with no added parts but he nailed it. Dont Stop/Cool was fun. Purple Rain and LRC were ok. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad. Pretty standard versions as of late. The Love we make was my other big highlight. GREAT version!! I was hoping he would finish it off with a guitar solo but he didn't. The second sampler set was kind of a dud. He just flew through about 15 songs in about 15 minutes it felt like. I am sorry but this part of the show is just really weak and not Prince to me. I feel like this is just a lazy way of killing time but again the crowd I guess seemed to like it so he kept it going. She's always in my hair was one I was waiting for and he cut it way short on the extended part. No Prince solos on this one. The gospel souding song with Judith Hill was GREAT!! I was realy digging this one and Prince seemed to get into this one. No idea the title though. Clouds sounded a little off and was very short. The encore was a good jam the best I remember but can't remember any songs.

My final thoughts - A very good show but not anywhere close to his best. I left thinking for a 56 year old it was good though. He seemed to show his age alot as he sat down alot, played very little guitar and didn't really dance a whole lot. He came out with a ton of energy but it seemed to calm down to more of cheerleader mode after the first sampler set. He did extend the show to it seemed like 3 hours which was AWESOME!! I would give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars but a big drop off from 80s, 90s and early 2000's Prince but for 2015 Prince it was a very good show. The band sounded great. The only annoyance of the show was my wife getting her ticket taken by the security and a stern final warning for sending me a text during the intermission on what she wanted from the bar. She was told she would be ejected if she took her phone out again even if it was during intermission. Kind of ridiculous to me.
