This is absolutely not true. It was not a full version of "For You". It was just like on the Nude Tour when little recorded snippets of his songs were played as an Intro to the show. They would play little snippets then they would slow down and go into the next one.

It was a new taped intro to the show, again, similar to how he opened the Nude Tour.

I'll stand by my "intelligence" as he was in the orchestra pit right at the stage and was able to see thru the sheer curtain.

Those shows just absolutely rocked hard and the band sounded great. Granted, the USA is not as accepting of newer music as overseas is but he can still work it in the setlist if he layered right. It doesn't have to be SO MUCH hits and NO new stuff in the USA. I miss the days where Prince didnt care and played it whether you liked it or not.

I didnt see many until Prince told everyone to take their phones out during Controversy. Then it was game on. I expected him to say ok you can all put your phones away now but he didnt. So some probably thought the rules changed and it was ok. Plus there were probably some sections with security who were more laid back than others. It's too bad it was inconsistent but like I said they made it clear what would happen if caught.

He probably told the lighting director to "Turn the house-lights on!!!" So, security could nab them... Way cold....

Why can't people these days just put their phones AWAY while at concerts, movies, (nice) restaurants? People are glued to their phones even at church and funerals. It's sad that's how things have become and people need to be treated like little children to get a point across, i.e. NO PHONES ALLOWED TURN YOUR PHONE OFF AND PUT IT AWAY. 2) TOo loud with fuzzy bassdrum, and fuzzy bass and vocals, but no keys and synths.

3) No steady cam, or holding..SOunds like its fading in and out..

Well.. those songs sound better with the original drum machie beat, or someone playing the smaples on a pad, or sampler..

On the Tamar Tour: MR. Hayes synths sounded nothign like the horn-synths on PArtyman..Folks seemed lost...until he sang, "All Hail..."

Maybe, it was the ATL Venue...

Well said. But if you don't want people using their phones, then don't do the phone/lighter thing. Even that's gotten old over the years. I've seen a bunch of bands do it. Face facts, we live in an age where some people have to let others know what they are doing 24/7 and have to document everything that they do even if it's a terrible. grainy picture or video. I find it kind of sad myself. I wish they had the no phone phone policy at ALL live events such as concerts, shows etc... It's really gotten out of hand over the years.

To be fair about the cell phone use situation, initially it was very clear that no photos or video were to be taken inside - as security told us several times while we were in line. But it was very confusing when Prince said get out your cell phones and light this place up.

I just turned my light on a held my phone up with everyone else - a sea of cell phone light. Very cool. Then all I could see were people taking photos and video, zooming in and out, etc. I held strong and finally put my phone down and in my pocket.

Many minutes went by and people were still holding phones up, and many were still taking photos and video - no security warning at all as far as I could see. I pulled my phone back out, lit it up figuring the ban must be lifted at this point because I'm the only one NOT taking photos or video. The ONLY one.

I prepared to take a shot or two with everyone else. And then a flashlight hit my back, so I put the phone back away, and the security flashlight went to the couple next to me. Thought I was gonna get thrown out.

My point is that it was total free-for-all after Prince said take your cell phones out. I finally began to believe the ban must be lifted - at least for that song - because the cell phone use/photo-taking went on a long time.

Why would they clearly warn you to NOT photograph or videotape inside, then the artist tell the audience to take out your cell phones, turn them on and light up the place, and not expect any confusion?

If no photography is truly the goal, it's awful risky to tell the audience to take their previously stowed, dormant, harmless cell phones out of their pockets and turn them on when a photo is just two touches of a button away.

My solution is to either A) Never ask the audience to pull out the cell phones, just Bic lighters or something, or B) to remember to tell them when to put them away again.

I honestly believed the ban must have been lifted after so many phones remained on and up in the air for so long.

By the way, dude wore us out with a great show!

I notice that you like the songs that Prince sings. I do like most of those tunes and wouldn't mind hearing them live but I can think of dozens and dozens of better songs from his catalog, many that he has never played live. I would have zero desire to hear anything from AOA as I think they would be serious momentum killers unless it was in a small venue or club. That being said, I do agree that is a little strange that he recently put out 2 very hyped up, heavily reviewed albums and he hardly plays any songs from them.

I just checked out the setlist from this show: An hour and 45 minues and 2 sampler sets with the first one being the 6th song into the show? I just don't get it. This is the guy who makes fun of lip synchers, rightly so. Sitting at a keyboard, hitting buttons to play music is not really very different from lip synching at all, especially when the band is right there! And with all due respect, let's get one thing straight: no Prince show that includes a sampler set should ever be considered "among the greatest shows of his career". In fact, no Prince show that I've seen in the last 15-20 years, although I've seen some good ones on the Musicology and W2A Tours and at Mohegan Sun in Dec '13, were nearly as good as seeing him in the 80s and the early 90s. I'm still a fan and will definitely go see him any chance that I get but I still think his newer music and current band pales in comparrison to his music and bands of the past.

Agree with the part about Prince not telling people "OK, put your phones away again". I've said that people took his permission for that one song as permission for the rest of the concert.

There is no judge and jury when it comes to concert security. They do not work for Prince. He does not shuttle venue security personnel with him across the country. They work for the Fox.

If they have specific instructions to eject cellphone users, they do that. They are not watching or enjoying the concert, and I hightly doubt they are paying attention to Prince's subtle onstage cues. And they can't go around warning everyone, because people obviously don't heed warnings.

Put it this way: everyone who knows you, probably knows you're at the Prince concert. It's probably not a secret. Your parents, coworkers, babysitter and BF/GF (if they're not with you) already know. You don't need to update your Facebook/Twitter/Instagram LIVE during the show. Enjoy the show that you paid a lot for, and post about it later. If there's an emergency, or you need to keep checking in with home, duck out into the hallway. As for pictures, you can probably find professional concert pics online the day after. Why do people need THEIR picture to remember the evening?

Tedious for first timers?! Highly unlikely.

Despite the amount of complaining about the "sampler set(s)", its very likely that a significant majority of the crowd are first or second timers or are just looking to go have fun at a concert of a legend, the more familiar songs from his playlist the better - whether they are in full or not.

It only makes sense to gear the concert for that crowd and not those - the "hardcore fans" - who are are going to find something to complain about anyway.

There is nothing wrong with the sampler set. It hypes the crowd, and I bet even several of the people that constantly get on the org to complain about it.

I disagree. I have heard so much feedback from first timers since the O2 in 2007 that they don't understand it and get frustrated that he doesn't play the whole song. I've been next to a bunch of 'hyped' newbies a couple of times who started booing that he kept stopping the song.

Anyway... i'm don't saying it is shit... i'm saying it is getting old.

He performed Clouds, and it kinda killed the momentum. Not because it was a "ballad", but because it was unknown to 90% of the audience.

I guess thats one thing that Prince is isn't as good at as other artists. I just saw Mellencamp and he played 21 songs and only 11 of them were hits. I didnt know the new album but it sounded great anyway. I ended up buying the new Cd afterwards. I really like artists that play where they are at now and don't stritctly live in the past. I guess Prince has fallen into that legends class where all he can do is play his past or people won't like it. It says alot for artists who can play stuff that people don't know and making them like it vs those who can't. Prince used to be like that but things do change i suppose. I really don't think that out of 45 songs playing 6-8 newer songs is asking too much.

Clouds is slower and hard to get into. At least for me. I guess I'm referring to the uptempo tracks that would have got the crowd going.

Who knows? My best guess is that he wanted to play safe and do the songs "everybody" likes/knows. I also think he picked Detroit to introduce Judith Hill to a friendly audience...
Now what I'm really interested in to know...what do the 3rdeyegirls think about the setlist now that they're not playing "their" songs on tour anymore...
