P better prepare for a series of negative reviews...lol....If he's doing an AFTER SHOW, then that setlist would more than fly....But these are not aftershows, folks...People are paying over $200 bucks to see Prince live at a real show...And trust me...They don't want to hear obscure and new material as the bulk of the gig....

The diehards will dig this....But you gotta do a more balanced gig for the masses...It's not like dude doesn't have any "rock guitar" fueled hits...All this to say, prepare for that good hate, folks....lol...It's about to get nasty....

Who reads concert reviews? I am sure minds were blown. Word of mouth and social media is where the real feedback is. I so wish I could be there.

The sheep read concert reviews...And where do you think those "reviews" are filtered into? Social media....

Listen....I love the Org...We go hard for lil' man and rightly so...He's one of the true musical giants...But bad reviews can have a negative effect on ticket sales if it's back to back to back....And truth be told, as a hardcore P fan, I even know there's better material to pick from beyond "Endorpinmachine" and the like....In other words, open up that song book and really cook if you are going to rock....

I have tix for the AZ shows and have been eagerly awaiting the reviews of Vancouver. As far as I'm concerned, Prince could play twinkle twinkle little star and I'd dig it. BUT we are taking some first time Prince concert goers and they definitely just know the big hits. It WOULD be nice if he would mix it up a little at least.... At $275 a ticket in AZ, it'd be tough to call it worthwhile if people don't know any of the songs....

Ok... I understand. But if you're the kind of person who can't easily pony up $275 like myself, why would you gamble that in hopes that he would play "The Hit's" CD?

I guess I take for granted that I would think that even casual fans of Prince's Hit records heard reports about how fickle he can seem and how his sets can be (without many "Hits"). And I would think they also might take into consideration the last time he released anything they might have actually heard.

Think of it this way: I do enjoy some Michael Jackson. But I didn't keep up with all of his albums. And I wouldn't just buy 400 dollar tickets in hopes of seeking him play Thriller and Off the Wall. Especially after the Invincible album. I'd wait it out. Personally. But even then, Michael was different I think because he had been known to play his hits.

I truly do sympathize with hoping an artist will play the hits one loves, especially if that's the expectation that's been created. But he hasn't played that type of show in a while (from my understanding). So I don't see that expectation having been artificially created on his behalf. And, I fundamentally believe in an artists ability to grow, perform, and create as they see fit.

On a side note: I think that his decision to not just be a "greatest hits" performer may have helped prevent him from being relegated to touring the Summer Fairgrounds Circuit like.. I don't know.... Boyz II Men.

So for those who went both shows last night were you able to stay after the first show or had to exit and go to the back of the second show line?

So when U first got in you told them you have tix for both shows and they gave you wristbands for both shows... what about wristbands for all 4 shows anyone tried that yet?

.

.

Otherwise I read a lot of comments about the shows being short... Here are my thoughts...

With the NPG Prince will do a 2 1/2 show BUT part of it will be with "fillers" ex: Hornz solos, Backup singers or Shelby singing several full songs, take that away and well you have about 1 1/2 hour of just Prince as well, so I rather see just Prince singing and jamming with his band even if it is shorter... smile

this is Prince at his happiest I think

doing what he wants in a small venue and playing with new band members almost like School of Rock

and if he were to charge normal prices, you would see drunk people and all kinds of riff-raff attending these shows

man I really wanna go now - love this setlist

I hope he comes to the East Coast with a set like this. These reviewers are worthless if they can't appreciate music for what it is. Eat your expectations and just listen.

I've seen him three times. The London ON show was 3.5 hours of nothing but hits and obscure songs. It was the best concert I've ever seen. Just saw him at United in Chi last fall. The technical problems overshadowed any awesomeness of that show....
I'm essentially going to AZ to see him play guitar and see him in a small venue. The other arena tix we had were $750 a piece. Worth every penny in London and NYC.

Any fan that looks at whats going on right here and starts complaining about wanting more hits should be banned. Screw the masses if you just paid top dollar for tix and you are going to a club to see Prince with just a couple hundred people where he is going to solo all night and play obscure jams and you didnt know that was what you were in for then to bad for you you shouldnt be there. All he needs to do in SF is add something like Head to the setlist and I am good for 5 more years.

I wish we all were nude. I wish there was no black or white I wish there were no rules.

These shows sound like the greatest Prince thing in a long time. For a while there I was worried he was going to turn into 70's era Elvis (good shows adored by the general public, but bloated and 'Vegas'-ey) words can't describe how happy I am to see him take a "rockier" grungier sort of route.

Let's not forget this is what revived the folk rock corpse of Neil Young in the late 70's, finally Prince is being all wacky and creative again.

It's so WEIRD to see Prince in an afro, but after all this time, I'm digging the weird!

It's kinda fun not knowing quite what to expect in Las Vegas.

I'm loving this vibe and I'm very excited for my shows! excited

He actually looks cool, rather than wacky for the first time in years.
