You shouldn't just give up on Prince. I went to see him on April 23, 2011 at the Forum in LA. He played 3 hours and it was truly an amazing experience. One mediocre show shouldn't ruin seeing Prince live for you. I was actually worried when I went because the night before, he only played 90 minutes. But I got lucky. Maybe you will too, if you give him a chance to rock.

Sorry for your expierence but Prince is 1 of the greatest performers period.Yeah 1st night was a bad night sound wise which includes other folks like the soundman. Prince's track record as far as live performances is solid so if it's never again for you then fuck it..you look better gone.

I'm so glad prince brought it for tonights concert. No matter how much it hurts that I went last night. Yes I feel cheated, and am generally pretty pissed off, but I'm glad that there was a turn around.

Lessons learned:

1. never buy tickets for the first night.

2. assume IF he comes to chicago again, that there will be at least 3 shows.

sigh.. congrats to those of you who got to see the show tonight. I need to stop reading these forums now. the anger is welling up again. lol

So defensive on behalf of Prince... there's no need to get confrontational with trax... And blaming the soundman is weak. Isn't a soundcheck meant to get the sound right? Is Prince not allowed into the venue early enough to do a proper soundcheck and make sure it sounds good BEFORE he goes on stage? Maybe he can't soundcheck until after the stage is set up, and that takes a while... but surely by now he knows how long everything takes to set up, so why can't he just start earlier?

Lots of bands bring sound techs on the road with them... why doesn't Prince do this? I dunno, maybe there are sound guys on the org who can answer this: Can a good soundman make any venue sound good, or is each venue so different that it's a gamble how good anyone can make it sound? Does it make sense for Prince to just hire and keep sound techs who work well with him? Or is it not worth it to keep soundguys on retainer because maybe they're a dime a dozen?

No curfew tonight at HOB. Booze cut off at 2:30, but special deal struck with PO-PO/city that he can play as long as he wants. I think we are in for a treat tonight!

That was AMAZING! I am speechless.... by far the BEST Welcome2 show yet, hands down! Prince was insane! I lost count of the encores. He just kept coming out! I just can't believe I heard these songs (in no particular order):

Act of God

Party Man

She's Always in My Hair

Dreamer

Sometimes it Snows in April

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore

Forever in My Life (this was part of the medley, but he sang it full out to the instrumental music)

Nothing Compares to U (with our very own J Hud)

I Can Never Take the Place of Your Man (slow version)

That's was UNBELIEVABLE! I honestly did not think anything could top the NYC shows, but this? Prince was all in. And the guitar was on point. I nearly cried during his guitar solo on Purple Rain.

I didn't even mind Andy singing People Pleaser, and it was almost cute when he commented on how cute she was and when he serenaded her in Little Red Corvette. (He sang to her when he said "a body like your ought to be in jail...")

I am barely coherent right now. I can't wait until tomorrow. Thanks Prince! Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world? I don't have one negative comment about tonight's performance. Prince was a mad man tonight!

Did this not top the show last night, if you went? If P messes up, he tries to make up for it... Too bad those who attended the first show didn't get the make-up music in the second one...

I agree with that statement. I did go last night. I actually enjoyed myself last night, but of course he didn't play guitar which is a huge negative at a Prince show. But tonight more than made up for it. By the time he finished the set list I think I tweeted that Prince doesn't even need to give me an encore. He had already tore the house down. Then he proceeds to give several (I really did lose count) encores. It was just amazing.

But like you said, it is really too bad for those who only went to last night's performance. I think that part of the reason I was not bitter about last night was because I knew I had two more shows to go to.

Yup, what you just described were my experiences last year... I learned not to buy a ticket to the first show... But, Prince more than makes up for it in the following shows of a residency. Glad the second turned out great for you--thought it would. cool I was supposed to be there tonight... That's why I wanted to know how it turned out...

I did last year--but not this year! Otherwise, I would be posting from the show in Chicago... razz lol

Damn shame, really... I was selected to be a volunteer for the Tuesday show and I couldn't schedule the flight connections or afford the flight and hotel rates this time... I figured P would knock it out the second night...

So was the sampler tonight the same as the 24th show? If he didn't sing I Would Die For U or When Doves Cry in their full form, I didn't miss anything because those were the songs I really wanted to hear in full versions. And did he sing U Got the Look?

I'm furious with myself. I've been lurking on this forum long enough to know better, but I left after Little Red Corvette and apparrently missed two more songs? Twitter is blowing up with comments about 5 encores. Is there any setlist yet?

There aren't any 200 levels on stubhub for tomorrow night, so I may treat myself to the aftershow instead.

PS the show was brilliant and I'm so sorry for people who stuck with last night's gig instead. Prince spent the whole night making up with his guitar.

Just wanted to add my thoughts to what you shared. Really enjoyed 2nite's concert. Really cool 2 c Prince come out with that funky shirt, yellow pants and eye mask. When he picked up the guitar for Let's Go Crazy, we knew it was a different show than last night, and he kept playing that guitar all night. F*cking amazing!! He definitely played a lot of songs 2nite that I love-- Besides the ones already mentioned above-- Let's Work, Controversy, I Would Die 4 U, U Got the Look, a better duet with Andy than last nite on Take Me With U. Of course he brought the house down with his dance moves and booty shaking on Kiss. Drove the crowd wild. I'm glad he mixed it up 2nite with classic hits and fan faves. My partner came with me 2nite and had a great time as well. He was really impressed with Prince's guitar skills, his voice-- the falsetto, and dance moves, and how he can get the crowd to do anything he asks. Also, he can't believe how much the crowd love Prince and his music with the sing-along and dancing practically all night to his music. He can't believe how many hardcore Prince fans there are who just won't leave begging for more encore. And I mentioned the after shows at House of Blues and he can't believe how much energy Prince has. I mentioned 2him Prince has been doing that 4 years. Makes me really feel lucky 2 b a Prince fan and enjoying his music all these years. I don't think he'll ever forget this experience. Me neither. And I'm really tempted to catch Prince's 3rd show 2morrow nite even if I have 2buy just the $50 seats so I can watch and listen 2him per4m live one last time. Who know when he'll back in town again. Thank u Prince 4 an unforgettable xperience! Hope 2 catch ya 2morrow nite!

You know your rolleyes is really appropriate because as long as P been in the game; thats sad for those people that spent their cash and time some of them even long drives and flights to see that which transpired Monday night when he know he could have delivered Monday night also! eek

Unless he was sick or something....
