PrintableWow, what an experience. I was there for the whole day and night and enjoyed it immensely. The whole NPG festival experience was a good idea and nicely executed. Both Nikka Costa, Paloma Faith, Raphael Sadiq and Chaka Khan delivered very good performances. The weather was great, we sat in the sunshine and enjoyed the music, the food and the purple atmosphere. I have never ever seen so many people dressed in purple
And then the sun went down and a quarter past nine Prince started his set and everything exploded. He looked really suave in his outfit and had the crowd eating out of his hand from the very beginning. He was smoking hot on the quitar but allround in a party mood, tearing the stage up whether he played, danced or sang. And then about an hour and half into the concert, in the middle of an insane funk jam with Larry Graham playing Everyday People and then Alphabet Street, the heavens opened and it started pouring down! And I don't mean normal everyday rain, it was like standing in a waterfall. We were soaked through instantly. This did of course not stop the party, it just turned everything into a rain dance. But then the power was gone and it was announced a little later that Prince had already left. it was simply too dangerous to continue. The stage had been completely flooded and it was clearly not safe to play any more. So that was it. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Laugh because it was so great and the concert was interrrupted at an altime high. Cry, because Prince was clearly in party mood and could have played for 3 hours. I still don't know but I am leaning towards smiling | |

I think it's perfectly obvious that Prince arranged for the downpour solely to have an excuse to let people in today and boost the attendance
On a side note, there's a helluva lot of bands out there who I would have considered myself a fan of in the past but nowadays, for whatever reason, wouldn't go to see if they were playing in my back garden. However, I don't particularly feel the need to post criticism at every turn on internet "fan" sites. Just sayin'.... | |
