Ok, just a quick one since I'm rolling out of the hotel with my lovely kids for a day at the amusement park wink

What to say? For those who saw my earlier post where I was worried that it was gonna be sub-par because of the crowd in Gothenburg. I stand corrected, I even feel a bit ashamed razz

2,5 hours long and Prince in a RARE mood! I never figured I was gonna see a happier Prince than in Ireland but what do you know? He didn't stand still for a second all night and kept making jokes and went more or less bananas on the guitar in the first half (hour) of the show. This, of course, is what we die hard fans have come to expect from him - but what had me worried was that it was gonna be a "play the hits and run" event. Was I proven wrong. The setlist was anything but for just the casual listener (I like it there? Something in the water does not compute?), he relied on the force of nature which he - and music - is and won the crowd by hard work.

Think the newspapers are gonna be raving today. I sure know that everybody I met was amazed. And during the show ppl kept yelling at each other that how great he is. And judging by the murmur afterwards and the amount of ppl who bought Prince tee's I actually think he gathered quite a few new fans, which is really fun since he really hasn't been hitting of with Sweden, neither fans och newspappers the last 15 years.

Shit, gotta run. Sorry for the short post, think I kind of missed the point. But just had to give some sort of review. To me it was a 5 out of 5 concert, to compare this one to Dublin - cannot be done since it was, to me, two very different shows. The irish - you win in my book anyday, so as for a party - nothing can beat the Malahide Npg party! But as far as music goes, Gothenburg won out.

Peace,

Gemini

PS. Sure hope I won't find any news about aftershows. But from what I could gather from twitters and Npg staff onsite - it wasn't gonna happen. Fingers crossed, gonna cry just a little river if I was wrong wink

Ok, just had a run through the morning papers. Aftonbladet and Expressen, two of Swedens biggest papers all laud the concert as "the best of 2011, or even, best ever in Sweden" as well as "it wasn't magical, it wasn't incredible. It was better than that." 5 out of 5 in those two, Göteborgsposten - 4 out of 5. Can't wait to see how Dagens Nyheter, Sydsvenskan and Svenska Dagbladet will rate the concert.

Shit, I'm all giddy and even gonna keep the papers and the reviews, haven't done that since those blindingly good reviews Nine Inch Nails gathered in 2007 - before that? Well, suppose it hasn't happened since the mid 90's when I was more easily impressed wink

Scans of the reviews and translation of the best ones in the coming days. Gotta get home to Sthlm first.

This was my first Prince concert and I've been a fan since 1998. I live on the west coast of Sweden and was planning to see him last year in Denmark but didn't, this time it only took an hour to get to the concert so this was the perfect opportunity.

It was really cool at the beginning to see Prince walk out on the narrow front part of the stage in silence and receive a warm welcome. He started with 1999 and I think it was a suitable start. Highlights during the concert for me: It was a wonderful surprise that he did I Like It There, one of my favorite Prince songs from the 90s. I also really enjoyed Cream, If I Was Your Girlfriend and Kiss.

I've always thought that Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) is a good song but not above average. The version he did in Gothenburg, which kind of sounded like gospel, made the song better. Finally, I really like D.M.S.R. and it was a good version but I prefer the one he did on Le Grand Journal a while back.

It was a good evening, before the show was over he had been on top of the piano (obviously), he had mentioned "Sweden" about 20 times, and I have a memory for life.

I rate this show 4.5 out of 5.

From one of the reviews (translated by google), I love this part the most ... it says it all: biggrin

"He owns the stage like no other. Can not take my eyes off the stunning 53-year-old from Minneapolis. This is not just summer's best concert. This is one of the biggest I've ever seen. I do not know what to say. I do not know what to write. Prince can not be compared to anyone but himself."

I love it that Prince impresses people like this!! biggrin
