Yep, I had them from 9am yesterday morning. Was sat in the hotel thinking, wish we could do it all again tonight and been on a downer since then. I need another purple high.

My body is dead, I m still in some weird bubble stuck on the ceiling and I refuse to come down! I m at work but with the concentration of a blue bottle! The only words coming out of my mouth are Prince although still cant get my words out correctly cos I m too excited from it all!

Listened to gold on replay this morning on the bus, huge smirk on my face like a cheshire cat, hairs stood on edge fantastic feeling!

As for working pff, got the org on refresh! mwahaha. Thanks to those who spread the words at the concert about NPGUK (UK & Ireland Prince Group) we ve had loads of requests and anyone who wants to join us is more than welcome

http://launch.groups.yaho...oup/NPGUK/

Prince left the concert in a police escort direct to the airport shortly after he got off stage, one of our taxi drivers back from the Tripod updated us he didnt go to Malahide and worked the airport instead! Wonder where he went.. looking for new sound technicians or equipment maybe in London?

Thankfully I am self employed, so I gave myself the day off today, wouldn't have been able to work anyway. Gonna watch and download as many of the Malahide vids on Youtube before they are gone.

Mozart of Minneapolis makes Malahide his own

Sunday July 31 2011

James Brown used to be introduced on stage thus: "Ladies and gentlemen, it is star time. Are you ready for star time?" Last night at Malahide Castle, 30,000 people were treated to two-and-a-half hours of star time courtesy of Prince Rogers Nelson. He starts as he means to go on with a rollicking version of All That Glitters Ain't Gold. And the audience can already barely contain their excitement. Or their dancing. They got even more excited later to Raspberry Beret and particularly on Lets Go Crazy. The enigmatic singer, who has changed the landscape of music over the course of his 30 years of recording, was something to behold. I'm not just talking about the peculiar white poncho he wore. Sometimes he seemed lost in his own private ecstasies; other times he appeared like he was communicating directly with the gods. Either way, the 53-year-old gave a show that won't be forgotten for all the right reasons for a long time to come. The little man was a revelation from the moment he sashayed onstage at Malahide Castle at 8.10pm like Joan Collins in Dynasty. He offers up something between sin and salvation to the truly gobsmacked crowd. His very special band did some amazing work around Prince's idiosyncratic playing, not least on If I Was Your Girlfriend and 1999, which had everyone in the audience up and bopping. He is an old-fashioned band leader like Duke Ellington. Everything -- every sound -- revolves around him. He is the consummate performer. In person, Prince is absolutely inscrutable ; I interviewed him for LIFE magazine three weeks ago and he gives very little away. Onstage, he is an open book of artistic expression. It was special to watch a musician of Prince's stature work a show, an audience and a band. His band gave Prince the razor-sharp precision he demanded, following him wherever he takes the song -- Kiss is looser than a rubberband; Raspberry Beret funkier than a disco in a cheese factory. Between each declaration of passion, Prince does more than enough to hold the audience in their place lest they faint from what must by then have been a steamy night. The rain kept away and Prince kept going all night. Fifty-three or not, he does jumps and kicks in the air to the beat; shuffles in his heels; winks at the crowd, then kicks off into Kiss. "You don't have to be beautiful to turn me on," he sings, and the words are soaringly sweet and clear as Prince dances across the stage, the imp of perverse. It becomes the mantra for the night. He has that look -- immaculately androgynous, nosebleed-inducing high kitten heels. With a seeming boundless energy, the Mozart of Minneapolis propelled himself into two-and-a-half hours of jazz, funk and pop jams of mind-boggling versatility. This was not just a greatest hits show. It was a greatest artist currently living show. I saw U2 at Glastonbury last month and they were nowhere near as potent as Prince was last night in Dublin. "We want to show our love and respect to Miss Sinead O'Connor," he says, launching into Nothing Compares 2U. Cue general crowd ecstasy. But nothing compares to Prince in this kind of form. He is the most exciting starman and showman alive, with a stagecraft that would make James Brown seem lazy and unimaginative. As he goes from Purple Rain into Creem, nothing prepares you for the breathtaking reach of Prince's impeccable voice -- falsetto one minute, river-deep the next. That's a voice. And with that same voice he told the crowd: "I'm sorry it took so long to come to you." Those lucky enough to be at the show were not to be disappointed courtesy of an authentically exhilarating show of bona fide soul. Come back soon. - BARRY EGAN

I have just woken from a 13 hour sleep, I was so exhausted after the concert. What can I say, it was my 17th time seeing Prince live and this show was the best I have seen ever. Prince was in high spirits, the band were fantastic, the audience loved every minute of it.

Though heavy on hits, as someone said earlier, it felt right on the night. My favourite past of the show had to be the funk section when he did Musicology, Funky Music etc - you could see he loved the jamming section and friends with me mentioned afterwards that is where his genius shined though - playing guitar with one jand, keys on the other while singing, dancing, and smiling.

My personal highlights were Gold, what an opening !!! - Hot Thing and When Doves Cry. Controvery was phenomenal.

If there was one criticism, I would have held Purple Rain until later in the set. Its timing felt pre-mature and it was very bright when it was played... but no big deal.

The reviews are starting to flow in and you can see The Sunday Independent having given it glowing reviews - and this newspaper and the excllent Barry Egan are tough critics !!!

Prince & Band, thank you for coming to my home town, you have made my week. Brilliant incredible show, wonderful sounds, fantastic band and great people in the ORG aswell.

Peace & Get Wild

What can we say...there is something about Prince that brings out extremes in people (emotional, sexual, spiritual...as 4 some haters here, even jealousy).

Fact remains, Prince is one of, if not THE greatest live performer now...and many of us have known this for many many years.

I do challenge Prince though: funk the hits, on each release of yours, there is a gem. Play them, people love surprises and not just the hardcore fans.

Love u Prince...1 of a kind, i mean king

He opened with GOLD! I was in awe. The entire gig was brilliant. He was in great form and the crowd really got that from him. My only critisisms are that he ended a bit abruptly. And for all this talk of "playing 8 hours straight in dublin if they let me", he played 30 minutes under the cerfew. But it was still brilliant but yaknow...

Also he was doing soundcheck right up until Hypnotic Brass Enseble came on. From 4 to half 6 i think. It was kiind of like having an instrumental pre-show or something razz. You have no idea how surreal it was walking around the arena before the gig with prince going "1,2... 1,2... check". Cool, but surreal!

agree the abrupt end was quite shocking i thought , but the soundcheck as we walk thru the park heading into the concert around 5 was even more shocking as my sister said "thats not him" i was like "think it is" it was unbeleivable he was soundchecking soooooooo late but my sister got the treat of her life as he soundchecked "forever in my life" FOOOK ME !!

WHAT A DAY , IL NEVER FORGET IT , THANK YOU Prince big hugs(like the 1 you gav the support group)

What an amazing show. 20 years a fan and my 9th time seeing him, and every time he has delivered. Sound was really great, which was such a relief after reading about Cologne. Doesn't quite top London in 2006, but it's a close second.

This may be breaking forum rules (as you can see it's my first post), but I'm in "Sign O' The Times', the Prince covers band that played Gibneys before and after the show. Just wanted to say thanks so much to all the Prince fans (some of whom told me they are on here) who made us so welcome, and got into both gigs will all their funky might!

It was our first time playing as a Prince band, but I think we might keep doing it - so much fun. If you're interested, you can hear/see some tracks here. http://www.facebook.com/s...hetimesIRL

Again, sorry if this is breaking forum rules, please delete if needs be.

I was just gonna post the same...there is no mention of Prince marrying Andy. He probably left Dublin to go back to his Paris residency. That's how rumours start disbelief disbelief

we were in the hilton too after but missed that.... got back late, wow i wonder where he was heading to in such a hurry hmmm

when we were waiting in the field for the sound check to finish, i was talking with the guy from POD with the black shirt and big ear piece. he said Prince only arrived in Dublin on Saturady at 2pm but did not mention his departure. I am speculating Prince may commute to some of the gigs from Paris. He confirmed in sunday independent interview he now owns a home there so mabye he is availing of that opportunity rather than staying in hotels.

on another note, is anyone else having bad withdrawal symptons right now. i am matching some of the vids posted on youtube before they are taken down. after a 24 hour reflection, i have to upgrade my review from brilliant concert to mesopheric !!!

Having serious withdrawal symptoms, had to go back to work today and was soooo not in the mood, but if he has a home in Paris we may see more of him play here in Europe!!!biggrin
