Apollo tonight ? No.

Cassandra, Elisa and Liv have tweeted :

'The PURPLE YODA iand NPGs taking over HARLEM NY....THE APOLLO IS ABOUT TO GET FUNKY...'

'Buzz buzz the Apollo is calling! Got to go!'

'Apollo Theater!!!! I mean... Did I hear that right? Yep... It's true...NPG is gonna be in the house along with special guest! (big smile)'

Also tweeted by the enigmatic @Prince_Live

And confirmed by Moquake and drfunkenberry.

Which adds up to a show, unless 'unprecedented stage issues come into effect', as Prince_Live has tweeted... Still trying to make the show happen

New Yorkers, this could be a long (and hopefully funky) night...

Last update : no show...

'unprecedented stage issues' = other artists planning their shows ahead of time #old #disrespectful

Well, it kind of looks like it stopped raining, but still cool and overcast. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hope more info becomes available soon. I'm in walking distance to the Apollo, but it's raining and the New England/Chicago game starts at 4. If this is true, I hope I'll be able to go to this and the Michael Jackson listening party at Roseland

What's there to miss ? If you're within distance of the Apollo you're pretty much guaranteed a first row view if you start moving now...

As for those doubting this is happening, I've no more info than the tweets/Facebook posts of the band members, but three simultaneous tweets announcing the same event is, in effect, an announcement. Welcome to the after/surprise shows of the future.

So my advice is to gather your umbrellas, cash, and tape recorders and plan on a nice, long wait.

PS : I am assuming tickets will be on sale at the door. Feel free to rip me if tickets go on sale on Ticketmaster while you're waiting and soaked in front of the Apollo.

PPS : an astute schkopi.com member has pointed out that today is 13/12. Look familiar ? (Hint : 3121)

What there to miss? Is an official announcement from an official source that (1) a concert is taking place, (2) it is open to the public, and (3) detailed time/ticket info. Granted it seems as though 1 and maybe 2 are confirmed in that rumored kind of way, but it would be nice to get the goods on #3.

Yes, I get this is "the surprise method" of the future. But I can still miss the days of direct communication. We are not all in "walking distance" of the Apollo, and even with hours notice, folks STILL would like to make plans rather than having to stand out in the cold waiting for rumors to materialize.

Exactly. Not everyone can just pick up and go, seeing how we all live our daily lives to live. Not to mention there's always "subway interruptions" on the weekends where some trains are diverted, as well as, it would be helpful to know the price/time of event, seeing how the weather has been rather rainy and windy all day.

I'm sayin'... not all of us can run a paisley version of the Amazing Race, picking up clues at pit stops along the way.

Agreed, agreed... Obviously organization is a drag. Plus I hadn't converted to the purple side in time for the NPGMC days so I lack perspective. But still this is halfway between a well organized, fan-friendly aftershow, and a last minute, insiders/connected people only secret show. Not to mention surprise shows are supposed to be a little disruptive, right ? But that's a debate for another thread.

Back on topic : show at the Apollo ! Probably. Time to get excited.

Speculation : Apollo is a pretty big venue so maybe a public announcement later in the day ? Radio ?

Ohhh the NPGMC were the good ol days LOL And that was insider too--for the members it was such a sweet deal for getting tix even to "surprise" shows. Sorry you missed that golden era of fandom wink

And yes it is exciting! But it was so much more, when I was younger, had no responsibilities, and could run around town chasing purple like a fool. #timeisNOTatrick

Well, could be a private event. According to the Apollo Theatre calendar, theres's a private event on 12/13 with Paul McCartney, but that's Monday. Nothing showing on the Apollo calendar for Sunday, 12/12, so who knows, maybe the Purple Yoda and the NPG may be performing tonight at the Apollo. We'll just have to wait and see...rumors..rumors...and more rumors.
