Imagine u are Prince, think of the people he must have to deal with. There must be someone plugging their own CD at every concert. He must feel like people only come to see him cos he may bring them success.

Thats not to say that the above statment applies to you Divinity but he doesnt know you & thats what most others who pass him a disc are trying to do.

Prince is ok

PS - how 'bout adding some nudes or topless shots on the site? Or how about nude with just a crutch? Or nude with Prince superimposed into the shot with you? (You can have these ideas for free - a gift!)

First, I'd like to say that this is by far the most entertaining thread I've ever seen on this site. Hours of nonstop hilarity, thanks to all!

Secondly, after Divinity's better-explained second post, I'm tempted to feel a bit of sympathy. However, this one comment renders her entire "argument" absolutely irrelevent and ridiculous:

"I left town & I never attempted to contact Paisley Park again except regarding my recording of 'Crazy You' which you're not understanding I added to creatively. The song was just an accoustic, unfinished in my opinion, short idea. The final production was complete instrumentation and the addition of more lyrics supplied by me.
So, this is what all you fams that were there didn't understand..."

What gives you the right to call another artists work "unfinished"? What makes you think that, just because you made up an imaginary (and it is imaginary because it is not part of the songwiter's original recording nor has it ever been licensed, allowed or performed by him), second verse to someone else's composition that you somehow have special rights to allow your CD to be heard, or to argue with the creator of the music, or to interrupt his soundcheck? This attitude clearly shows that you are having some sort of delusional fantasy about your role in the artist's world. Whoever stated earlier that you do not understand the true meaning of the word "collaboration" was absolutely correct.

Wake up and find your own identity.

Honey, you brought it up - you obviously aren't trying very hard to "mask" the fact.

Like others on this thread, I really don't see how a disablity has anything to do with your story.
It's only injected to gain empathy to your plight.

Whether or not Prince remembers your previous interaction, I cannot say.
I DO however find it quite humourous to think that he DID recall who you were and reacted accordingly.

You took your shot at gaining Prince's attention - kudos 2 U.
You didn't like the attention Prince gave you - more kudos 2 Prince.

I don't think what Divinity did is deserving of the beat-down that she is getting. I mean, if you think about, how do Prince's new band members come to his attention?

How did Mayte get her gig? How did Geneva get her gig? How did Manuela get hired as his personal assistant? How did Kip get a spot in the NPG?

How did Millenia, or DVS, or Renato Neto, or anybody else get their break in the spotlight?

I think that Divinity was trying to make something happen for herself. She didn't succeed, but if a person never tries, they will never succeed at anything in life.

But there is a time and place for everything. If she sent it to Paisley Park or tried some other connection then that would be cool. But the soundcheck is about Prince.

And to tell you the truth it wouldnt have been so bad if she just let it go. But she had to post this sad sad poor me story on the ORG. The whole disabled girl thang. Come on! That has nothing to do with what happened. I dont care what she says. She wanted attention. Thats why she titled the post like that. There are a lot of other ways to represent yourself in a mature business like manner.

Well I heard it from front row. And he CLEARLY said those words in a non-aggressive manner. He CLEARLY requested (repeatedly, I might add) that you come take the CD back, however you persisted. If you want to blame someone for getting mean, blame US, the crowd, who were getting fed up with you, not Prince. Prince told US not to get mad at you.

I haven't heard anything about where Renato came from. All I've heard about Mani is that she is fan and used to post on alt.music.prince. She met Prince in New York.

I think the mention of the song on your "discography" is misleading as well.
Sure it says "unreleased" but it looks like an album. A list of titles from one, and right there next to "Crazy You" it says (Prince/Divinity) is there any reason to even put the title there if not to try to make people believe you have some sort of affiliation with Prince?
The whole sending imported flowers thing is just creepy as well. I agree with whoever said you need help. Maybe the "disability" is something mental?

Oh my stars. I know that I wasn't at this concert (but attended Friday and Saturday's and they were EXCELLENT!!) so I really can't say much on who was "wrong or right", but it seems to me that Prince may have been trying to be somewhat sarcastic (at least at the beginning). I mean come on, if he was angry at Alicia for "stealing" his song (did he even say "stealing"?) why did he invite her to the Celebration in 2001? Or why would he be performing "Love Rollercoaster" and Santana's song if it was "theft?" I know that Prince is sometimes mistaken for being rude or mean when infact he is trying to be humorously sarcastic or just a tease. And really, a soundcheck is not the time to be giving him a CD to listen to when almost everyone knows that Prince has to make sure the show and the music are perfect. Simply inviting us into the soundcheck is something to be thankful for from one who strives for total perfection when people can pose as possible distractions.

I think people aren't reacting so much to what she did at the soundcheck (ok maybe they are) but what's worse than the soundcheck, is coming on the ORG and posting her story under the title "Prince brings a disabled girl to tears." That's not fair to Prince, it doesn't do justice to what happened according to other witnesses, and THAT is deserving of the harsh response she's getting here.

Normally I wouldn't engage in this sort of thing, but this is truly entertaining me tonight.

You didn't hear his command to "come & get it." He did not request anything. You didn't hear his tone of voice & you'd probably jump off a bridge if he told you to.

You're right, I didn't hear his tone of voice. However, I have seen the words of a few other people who were there and totally disagree with your version of events. Based on my own experience with Prince, their story makes sense. Yours doesn't.

No, I wouldn't jump off a bridge if he told me to. I have self worth.

If he didn't want my gift, it was on him to return it.

He was trying to return it. He was asking you to come and get it. By saying the above, you are saying expect him to stop his soundcheck, come off-stage and give it back to you personally.

The song in question wasn't even on the CD. The 2 subjects should never have been related.

You're absolutely right. The two subjects should never have been related. However, YOU are the one who brought it up, so you made the relation yourself!

A collaboration by dictionary definition is "to work together in a joint intellectual effort, which this was. Joint means the matter of joining. So now what?

The first three words of the defintion of "collaboration," by your description, are:

"to work together"

You did not work with Prince on your extra verse to "Crazy You." Therefore, the two of you did not work together to create something. Adding lyrics to someone else's song without their participation is not a collaboration, and never will be, as I said in my last post.

That's what!

Prince's lawyers represent Prince. Prince has final say in everything, always. When no one responded the project was dead in the water - quote that.

I will quote that. The mere fact that no one responded means that Prince was sending you a quiet message that the answer to your request was no.

Although, now that I think about it, who says they have to call you? Haven't you ever heard of following up on your own to find out what the status was? Maybe the answer was yes but you just never called to find out! smile

Someone told me I could do that.

But based on your own story, you didn't say that to Prince when he asked you.

what is called a "memory" which is a "mental faculty of retaining and recalling past experience. Are you suggesting Prince doesn't have all his faculties?

No, I am not. I am suggesting that Prince does not have a photographic memory of every second of his existence on this earth. I am certain the man is quite capable of having his faculties, but forgetting about things that don't mean anything to him. For example, tons of people sending him tapes!

So you have to further retaliate against him?
Divy-This is not a retaliation, rather an informative process. Do you search for the truth?

Yes, I do search for the truth. I am searching for it as I write this, because clearly I don't believe I, or others around here, have gotten it from you!

I was not argumentative, I simply did not respond to his command.

Yes you were argumentative. And yes, you did respond to his command. You said, (paraphrase), 'No, you've embarrassed me enough already!"

Divy- I'm sorry you don't believe me, however the federal government acknowledges my disability & that's good enough to me. Looks are deceiving.

Very well, if you're disabled and you can hide it -- good for you! However, if your disability is so well hidden, then how could PRINCE have known you were disabled?

The title of this thread, which you started is:

'Prince brings a disabled girl to tears in D.C.'

That implies two things: one, you have a visible disability, and two, how Prince brought you to tears had something to do with your disability. Your story does not indicate Prince was aware of your disability, and if he wasn't, then he couldn't bring you to tears because of it.

It also means you're using your disability as extra ammunition for pity...and that ain't right!

All The Best,

Paul

That is EXACTLY why I responded so ferociously to her on this thread. Her original post was slanderous because of its false, misleading and inflamatory title. She has now admitted that the cat-suit comment was not about her. She has also admitted that her disability is not apparent and that Prince knew nothing of it. I sat a couple seats next to her at the show and I never noticed her "disability."

The bottom line is that she put a CD in front of him, he said he didn't want, and she kept persisting. He gave it to his bodyguard, who then took it to her and tried to get her to quiet down. In the meantime, the experience inspired him to start talking about his experience with people covering his work. He talked about how WB was in charge of enforcing the licensing, and that nobody covered him until he started fighting with them. He mentioned how Sinead's cover of NC2U was the first, and he didn't seem pleased with it. He then mentioned how Alicia Keys has still not gotten a license to use HCUDCMA. He also made the comment about his discussion with a WB attorney over whether he'd need to wear a cat-suit if he wanted to cover Andrew Lloyd Webber live. (It's a long story to put the last comment in context, and trust me, it's not that interesting.) He then dropped it and started playing. That is what happened, nothing more and nothing less.

I have called a private truce with Divinity about this issue and will let it drop. As a lot of you know, I consider myself a "nay-sayer" and I am often critical of Prince and his business endeavors. However, I was there, and I cannot sit by and watch him get slandered when he really did nothing wrong here.

You know what? This is such a waste of space. This person, Divinity, obviously DOES have a disability and while it may not be a physical one obvious to us, it is CLEAR, at least to me, that she has a mental impairment. I was at Sunday's soundcheck and she was SO obnoxious, We in the audience were the ones who wanted her to shut up! Prince could not have been more polite to her. She would not stop talking. Those of you who are defending her behavior and suggesting that Prince should have handled it differently (and I realize you are few) could not be more wrong!

By the way, he was not kidding around. He stated that he was cool with Alicia personally, but had a problem with her record company for not getting a proper license for the song. He was being serious about it.

He also discussed the fact that you can cover songs live without a license. That was why he made the comment about covering the musical Cats.

Orgnoting? I was messaged privately providing with contradictory information to what you posted here publically. I responded to each one of your responses, now I'm a pest, whatever. Funny I've gotten responses from a girl who simply asked a question at sound check & was not only ignored, but made fun of until she "sat quietly in her seat" also. Other stories reflect one girl tapping Prince on the shoulder & him flicking her in the forehead, a guy who was escorted out for approaching the stage while Prince was playing, one person being told not to look at Prince while he crouched with the mic between seats, etc. etc. I've gotten emails from people in foreign countries totally supporting me - one guy from France who worked at a venue & was snubbed by Prince. Apparently this is an on-going thing & needs to be discussed. I'm glad I was the catalyst to creating the conversation.
When you stop, I'll stop. Fair enough?
