It doesn't and there's reams of examples to prove it.

But . . .

51 in the preseason stands out a bit and Keith Butler has been getting the side eye for a little while now.

What about Bostic? Yeah every D. Coordinator (all coaches in fact) in Pittsburgh is always under some kind of scrutiny

You are right.

Butler and Tomlin will be getting the side eye this year as well as GM Kevin Colbert.

Everyone and their momma knew the glaring weakness on the defense was ILB and the

Steelers didn't even draft one. They are relying on journeyman Jon Bostic whom they signed in the offseason in free agency . I like UDFA Matthew Thomas out of FSU but he still has a lot to learn.

One bright spot is the promise of first round pick Safety Terrell Edmunds. Good speed and has a

nose for the football. Wouldn't be surprised if he planted Sean Davis on the bench by midseason.

Chad Kelley went 7/9 for 90 yards, 1 touchdown, and a 145.5 quarterback rating.

You might ask, "RodeoSchro, why are you fixating on this dude? Is it because he went to Ole Miss?"

Yes, but that's only PART of the reason why I am on the Chad Kelley train, and you should be on it too. Because as you might recall, Chad is Mr. Irrelevant. That's right - he was the very last draft pick in 2017.

So when you root for Chad Kelley, you're rooting for him to be the first Mr. Irrelevant to ever play quarterback in the NFL. That's pretty cool, isn't it?

I feel strongly that not only will Chad play in the NFL, he's going to start for the Broncos sooner or later. Case Keenum is an awesome dude, but i fear he caught lightning in a bottle last year and replicating that isn't going to happen.

Chad, on the other hand, was a projected high-round pick after leading Ole Miss to glory - including a whipping of national champion Alabama and then a destruction of Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl. Chad broke most of Eli Manning's single-season passing records. His uncle is Hall of Famer Jim Kelley.

But Chad had a couple blemishes in his past, and then he blew out his knee his senior year. He didn't play again that year, but he was ready when the draft came around...until he hurt his wrist and couldn't throw for the scouts. Put that all together and he became Mr. Irrelevant.

He was on the Bronco's scout team last year. But he never quit. And we all know what a clusterf*** Denver's quarterback situation has been.

So now we have Mr. Irrelevant, poised to make an NFL roster and then likely to become a starter. Hotty Toddy!

<NOTE - edited to say he'd be the first QB to play in the NFL. Turns out a few other Mr. Irrelevants have played in the NFL and one played in a Super Bowl>

Seems like PIT is going to try to outshoot everybody because the back seven have been a real problem for them for a while. They try to plug one hole and another springs up.

The guy is talented but also with a checkered past. He was at Clemson University and was

dismissed there. Also didn't help Clemson had other talented quarterbacks there. Also think he

had a shoddy senior year at Ole Miss and that coupled with his checkered past may be the reason he dropped out of sight in the draft. The very reason Vontaze Birth Defect went undrafted.

falloff at Vontez "Birth Defect".

Yep, Kelly was a jerk at Clemson. No argument there. And he dang near ended his career with that stupid "I'm gonna get my gun!" rant in Buffalo.

But Ole Miss gave him a chance and whatever else you want to say about Hugh Freeze, he got Kelly straightened out.

Snyder hasn't signed an over-the-hill Big Name in a while. He was due.

It's WSH. Take it from a jaded fan of this lost tribe of a franchise.

Washington always seem to catch a tough break.

Losing rookie Derius Guice was just another tough break.

Guice was sure to add some punch to the Skins ground game.

Adrian Petersen is done imo.

It could be karma. For the name. And other things. I was just sad for Guice.

Talk radio is all over Hue Jackson right now. But the Browns put a goose egg on the defending SB champs, who have a talented, deep roster, in a dress rehearsal for the regular season.

i want to say Baker Mayfield looked like crap but a lot of the crapfest was probably due to the Browns' offensive line, which is made completely of crap.

They're probably sick that Joe Thomas called it quits.

I have to admit they made a great hire when they hired Gregg Williams as
D coordinator. He's been successful everywhere he's been.
The Browns gonna hav to take that L week one though. biggrin
