You can see there's still a little ways to go before these robots are truly useful but it won't be long.

The Einstein robot is enough to reel you in. Those side eyes he gives, I don't know if I could handle that. lol

nah, I'm aware. I'm not too good at imagining all the different direction this stuff could go in, all those projects that aren't made public yet.

You guys need to learn to be more tolerant and not so robophobic.

Robot acceptance is just as important as fat acceptance. Like, it's 2017! It's not the 1950s!!

no, not the same issue at all. one addresses bias against obesity, the other addresses fear of robot super-intelligence. good point about 'robophobism' though.

they do. interestingly, Sophia the robot seems to have a better sense of humor than humans have so far. she makes jokes about taking over the world and people keep taking her jokes as threats.

This the stuff I've been waiting for.

Warning that the development of robots could result in a "new form" of life that outperforms humans, Stephen Hawking expressed grave concerns about the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), in an interview this week.

"I fear that AI may replace humans altogether," said the physicist to Wiredmagazine.

He likened the potential for harmful developments in robotics to humans' ability to create computer viruses that spread across systems. "Someone will design AI that improves and replicates itself," he predicted. "This will be a new form of life that outperforms humans."

"I believe we have reached the point of no return. Our earth is becoming too small for us, global population is increasing at an alarming rate and we are in danger of self-destructing."—Stephen Hawking

Hawking's warning comes days after a female robot was granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia's government. Google's former CEO, Eric Schmidt, also warned this week that China could rapidly expand its AI development in the coming decade, citing a policy document outlining the country's goal to become the global leader in the field by 2030.

Speaking at a tech summit, Schmidt argued that development of more AI should be the United States' priority, calling concerns over regulation "premature"—a position Hawking and Tesla founder Elon Musk have pushed against.

In 2015, the two scientists penned an open letter warning against developing AI for military purposes—even if other countries do so. "Starting a military AI arms race is a bad idea," they wrote, "and should be prevented by a ban on offensive autonomous weapons beyond meaningful human control."

What does Citizenship mean for a Robot in Saudia Arabia? Did her Buyer/Owner have to submit papers? Will the Government help her Owner with parts & maintenance? This 1st Phase of the Robot era seems a bit like separate but equal..

We need a lot of details...

I really thought about this AI Robot and quantum computing when I was rewatching The Minority Report. The catch in the movie was that you needed humans with an unique ESP ability to make the system work. Then I got to thinking, what if there is an algorithm possible. Would an AI come up with it, if so, would it be implemented? That would be insane. To be arrested before you do the crime based on an algorithm. There definitely is a margin of risk, but in all things there is a margin of risk, in all things we do there is an acceptable margin of risk. Nothing is completely infallible. Would we get to a point of allowing AI that much control?

Pre-crime, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and ethics

We've tried algorithmic justice based on statistics and it's not worked well. Could artificial intelligence do better?

[Pro Publica] obtained the risk scores assigned to more than 7,000 people arrested in Broward County, Florida, in 2013 and 2014 and checked to see how many were charged with new crimes over the next two years, the same benchmark used by the creators of the algorithm.

The score proved remarkably unreliable in forecasting violent crime: Only 20 percent of the people predicted to commit violent crimes actually went on to do so.

When a full range of crimes were taken into account — including misdemeanors such as driving with an expired license — the algorithm was somewhat more accurate than a coin flip. Of those deemed likely to re-offend, 61 percent were arrested for any subsequent crimes within two years.

^ despite my misgivings about AI reducing humankind to second-class intelligence, taking our jobs and reaching the singularity which enables them to learn and communicate faster than our brains can, i think there is a lot AI will do better than we ever could. a LOT of peple have been wrongfully convicted. imagine AI with simultaneous access to criminal records, school records, psych evaluations, job performance records, court files and access to all surveillance databases, evaluating crime....

the problem bein

what happens if there's a glitch??

and if there was a glitch, would we be

notified???

is it a 'better thing' to have a truly

We already live in a world where we know some things will fail us at some point but the convenience far outwejigh the risk.

it's not the ai that's the prollum

it's the handlers...

at some point ai would have to

step in on it's own behalf because

of some command it couldn't or

wouldn't want to comply with...

such an action would surely come

under 'reasons to unplug' and it(ai)

would have a 'self preservation' mode.

with eyes that can read body's changes

down to its chemestry (most advanced

lie detector technology) ai would be aware

of intentions folks ain't eem know they had

or in this case, gonna have (this is what i get

with all this talk of algarythms and whathaveyou)...

nothin has been created that hasn't been

weaponized... nothing...
