...so what TV do you watch? (Americans?)

....right, so, it's a given fact that 90% of Hollywood output (TV/movies) are aimed at teenagers and the college crowd. Given that most of us here are getting on in years - some of us are the wrong side of the big four-oh,......what are we supposed to watch? It really doesn't become a 40+ guy or girl to watch teenage love stories, or spaceships n aliens or whatever, much as we would like to hold on to our youth and tell ourselves we're still young. Are we just supposed to die after we hit 30 or so?

The only thing *I*, personally, can think of, is 2 and a Half Men, which was Really Fun, but a bit too much for even ME at times - and that is now long dead. After all the explosion of online content - Youtube etc. ,.... has anyone bothered making anything for us? Can anyone point me to anything? (and please, no documentaries or "educational TV" or anything like that (sorry xxaxx smile ), as I said, we're not Dead!!! smile )

Just because you're old, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy TV shows aimed at a younger audience. There's no age limit on the likes Gotham, Agents of Shield, Westworld, Game of Thrones etc.

Depending on what you're in to. I'd recommend the following;
The Sopranos - maybe the best TV show of all time.
Deadwood - basically the Sopranos only set in the wild west.
The Wire - if the Sopranos isn't the best. The Wire most definitely is.
Justified - imagine a TV series on Dirty Harry only with the sexiest man alive in the lead role.
Sherlock - very smart modern update of sherlock holmes. Not to be confused with the shitty American version.

these, except i might transpose 'the wire' and 'the sopranos' as what's best; although both weaken through their final seasons. i've watched the complete series' of each 3 times. i haven't watched 'sherlock', but based on emma's good taste i'd likely give it a shot.

barring those, what's wrong with m*a*s*h? it's on all the time and is, in my opinion, the best television ever produced.

also worth checking out might be 'fleabag'. very funny/tragic kind of modern feminist dramatic twist kind of thing.

'the get down' on netflix was pretty good. it started stronger than it finished, but worthwhile.

'the expanse' on the syfy network is really good. epic sci-fi space opera. i'd recommend turning off the tv and reading the books as a more fulfilling option, but it's there.

'mr. robot', of course...this and 'fleabag' are really good examples of how to tell stories in the modern age of binge watching; taking full advantage of the medium and viewing habits of their audiences.

bottom line, if you can't find something worth watching, you're not trying hard enough.

hmmm Looks like Hollywood may be wasting it's time then, based on this article

https://www.washingtonpos...ff762ba1e8

"The median age of a broadcast or cable television viewer during the 2013-2014 TV season was 44.4 years old, a 6 percent increase in age from four years earlier. Audiences for the major broadcast network shows are much older and aging even faster, with a median age of 53.9 years old, up 7 percent from four years ago".

If you will, so will I

The British Sherlock just keeps getting better. The American one is a travesty better not mentioned in the company of long-time Sherlock Holmes fans. hmph!

That wookie gif is creepy beyond words.

No cable so I watch nothing regularly.

Shows I like when I catch them.

The Originals
The Flash
Once Upon A Time

Scandal

How to Get Away with Murder
Game of Thrones

The Walking Dead

Grey's Anatomy
Gotham
Agents of Shield
Saving Hope (cancelled now)

Shameless
I might have missed one or two

Tried "Hell on Wheels", but started getting depressed I watch enough shows where my favorites get killed.
Did "Longmire" for a while, got bored.
Was a big fan of "Bones" for a while until they hooked up.

I noticed I don't watch any comedies anymore. I really liked Community, Parks & Recreation when I saw them.

Not too crazy about American detective shows but I like the British ones shrug go figure.

RDJs Sherlock is marvelous. So nana

....Right, what are they about? The names don't really *tell* me anything, except the ones I've already seen, - so what are the plotlines about??

I'm not sure which ones we get over here, but if I have some inkling of what they're about, maybe I could look into digging them up and trying and watching them...?

...and Hudson - which 40+ guy/girl do you know, who likes Buffy the Vampire Slayer and X-Files?? (you've listed just about every TV show there is!!....) Wasn't it enough that we were invaded by them when we were kids? lol

Well the shows I listed are all aimed at an adult audience so unless you've already seen The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Justified and Sherlock, then there's still plenty of shows for you. If you have seen all those, I'd recommend Boardwalk Empire, Firefly and maybe Lost? The first few seasons of Lost was quite good.

NCIS is #1 I bet.

This article lists median ages over 50 for a few shows:

Mad Men - 52

Criminal Minds - 53

Turn - 55

Justified - 55

The Americans - 55

http://www.indiewire.com/...201682396/

Scroll down to the "Top 50 shows, total viewers"

Omitting football, it looks like Big Bang Theory, NCIS, The Walking Dead, Blue Bloods, Empire, The Voice, Chicago Fire, The Blacklist, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, blah, blah are all pretty popular... I don't catch a ton of tv, but I don't believe any of them are marketed to teens.

Scrubs should be rated higher, shows that last nearly 9 years are around that long for a reason.
