What is it with Star Trek and stem bolts? I don't know how many different series have mentioned them in passing, I know for sure at least 2 but I believe at least 3 of them have, but even in the series I'm sure of they've come up a few times so randomly and I have no idea what they look like but there always seem to be a lot of them. | |

I looked it up. Story-wise, stem bolts were quintessential MacGuffins, with a name that was pure technobabble. Peter Allan Fields, who 'invented' them, admitted that he didn't have "the foggiest idea" what they were used for. According to Ira Steven Behr, the writing staff used them long after Fields' departure from the series as a tribute to the former producer. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 52) Looks like it was only in 2 series they were used DS9 and ENT. | |

Sta Trek series opening themes
I like DS9 theme best, but given that station wasn't built by the federation but the cardassians takes something away from the grandere of it. Like ENT season 3 upbeat tempo much better. S1 felt so lone wolfish makes me want to cry everytime I hear it, but I saw a comment that made the difference in the ENT theme make some sense. It's pre-federation so it wouldn't have a federation sounding theme with all the orchestration and brass. [Edited 10/15/16 23:47pm] | |

Why does Star Trek have a huge following?
The Star Trek franchise celebrated its 50th anniversary in September. During that 50 years, more than 700 episodes and 13 movies have been made. One could watch Star Trek for more than 500 hours without seeing anything twice. Star Trek stories are humanistic; they are founded in Gene Roddenberry’s belief in the perfectible human. They provide an optimistic vision of our future. Star Trek tells us that no matter how crazy the world may look today, it will get better. We will get better. There will be a time in which doing great things will be the norm. Contrary to the common perception, Star Trek did not perform poorly when it aired on NBC between 1966 and 1969, but it didn’t perform strongly enough to justify its very high cost.

We went to astar trek convention in vegas .. was ok.. way to overpiced but our son is a trekkie n was in heaven.

One of the highlights was our son saw James Doohans son Chris? is it . .I guess he was in one of the movies and does a lot of internet star trek stuff, Sean our son went right up to him pleasantly said hello shook his hand and went right into his love of whatever internet stuff this man does, Mr Doohan literally like idk just opened up like he was talking to an adviser or something, they were talking back n forth about storys and ideas,MR Doohan looked like a kid in acandy stire talking about all this stuff it was a moment, oh ya what do u think of this oh my god ya that was great,did you like this n that on n on it was somethin, this went on for at least a good ten-fifteen minutes, he looked at us and said wow this kid knows a lot hes got some good stuff. Talk about not a dry eye in my head. He was kind of enough to talk n wasnt rude like others were that day. The last movie was so boring I didnt like it I hope the next ones better. peace .. Jon
