The Beatles: Eight Days a Week - The Touring Years (2016) - A compilation of found footage featuring music, interviews, and stories of The Beatles' 250 concerts from 1963 to 1966.

I've read that there isn't much archival material here not already seen in the Anthology documentaries, but I haven't watched those so I'll give this one high marks on its own. It's definitely worth seeing all the concert footage on a big screen with the bonus partial concert from Shea Stadium shown after the credits. Beautiful. 4/5

I am so PISSED OFF with the way this movie is being released. In my city it played in exactly one theatre for exactly two days and then it was gone. So I didn't get to see it. Why didn't they release it like every other movie and have it play for a month or however long it was able to be profitable? Wouldn't a movie about the Beatles be a big draw for a long time?

The Dressmaker (2015)

A great little vehicle for Kate Winslet in this tragicomedy set in 1950's Australia. Liam Hemsworth is surprisingly good, Hugo Weaving is hilarious, and Judy Davis was fantastic as Winslet's mother. Some dark twists in the third act give this otherwise light movie some real weight.

It was showing in NY initially at only two theaters I believe also for two days only, but then returned to those same theaters throughout this week at least due to incredibly high demand. Fortunately for me, one of those theaters was within walking distance of my home.

It's really too bad you missed it because the restored Shea Stadium footage at the end won't be seen anywhere else--either on Hulu or on the retail video release.

I didn't like it. Moreso about the sad little girl, and nothing about the cat people. I wish I had just watched the predecessor, Cat People

Hell or High Water (2016) - A divorced father and his ex-con older brother resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family's ranch in West Texas.

I saw this movie based entirely on the very positive reviews and they are correct. 4.5/5

Snowden 5 stars out of 5

I know I probably give out too many 5 star ratings, but damn, I just saw Snowden tonight and it was EXCELLENT! It makes a great companion movie to CitizenFour, which I also gave a 5 star rating. These two movies are so important for every person of the world to see.

lol I knew you'd ask sexton.

The Revenant A- Better than I thought it would. Leo deserved the Oscar. I thought I'd watch half then watch the rest the next day, but it was so good I had to watch the whole thing.

It Came From Outer Space B+ This is alot of fun in 3D. It was on sale at BB for $8.50. Just get it! smile

Deadpool B- This was fun in certain places. I was not blown away, but it was a decent watch.

American Honey

This kind of let me down. It was overly long for the point it was trying to make; yet still, I left feeling kind of disconnected from the main character somehow. Riley Keough nailed her character though.

Raintree County (1957) starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Eve Marie Saint and directed by Edward Dmytryk . Its about a writer turned teacher who falls in love with a southern belle (who has secrets......and alot dolls lol you will know what I mean when u watch the film ) during the backdrop of the civil war. This film is also infamous because during the making of it, Monty was in a terrible car accident which destroyed the nerves in his face, and he needed to have plastic surgery which altered his appearance. So when you watch the film there is footage of him before and after the accident. He never recovered from this, and its a tragedy because he was a great actor who helped to usher method acting on the screen in the late 40s. I found the film to be long winded (its over 3 hours)....and I can understand they were going for the Gone With The Wind vibe, but I think it needed another lot of editing. All the performances are great especially Elizabeth Taylor who received her first Oscar nomination for the role of the fiesty Susanna. I give this film a 3.5 out of 5 popcorn

It's beautifully filmed. And the soundtrack is hot too. I like that it's about a transition from one family to the next--a point that becomes very clear at the end--and Star's difficult adjustment period stemming from her personality clashes with the new job. Good movie.

My favorite parts were those of them all just interacting in the van... and the soundtrack was nice. I liked hearing Fade Into You for the car scene.

Today is the day! the second Jack Reacher movie, "Never Go Back", premieres today and I've got my tickets. And of course we're going to the Studio Cinema Grill - and not for the grill part! For the booze! I'm going to watch Reacher kick the ever-loving poop out of numerous bad guys while happily enhanced by some sort of adult beverage. I'm sure the audience is going to love that! demon

So - how does one prepare for such a monumental cinematic event?!?

By watching the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic "Commando", of course!

The Esquire channel must be as geeked as me, because i think they showed "Commando" non-stop last night. I know it was on at least two times in a row. Way to represent, Esquire!

"Commando" is pure Arnold at his glorious best. In fact, it's the movie that premiered the "Arnold as a world-class badass killing machine" character. And boy did it ever!

The movie revolves around retired Army badass John Matrix (Arnold, with the most perfect movie name EVER), living in the mountains with his young daughter. They do mountain things, have pet deer, and generally smile all the time. That is, until Arnold's old general helicopters in and asks Arnold to go on one more mission.

Just as Arnold is saying "Not only no, but HELL NO", they are attacked by bad guys. Arnold smells a few of them and kills them but unfortunately none of the other good guys can smell bad guys like Arnold can, and the bad guys make off with Arnold's daughter. This upsets Arnold, and we all know what happens when Arnold gets upset......

BLOODSHED.

Faithful readers may remember my review of Arnold's kill count. "Commando" makes up a large portion of Arnold's kill count. In fact, it has the 7th-highest kill count ever! And here's a fun fact: although we all know the third Rambo movie as "Rambo III: Rambo Wipes Out The Entire Russian Army", Rambo's kill count was actually higher in the second Rambo movie, "Rambo". Here, peruse this site for hours of fun: http://www.moviebodycount...acters.htm

Back to "Commando" and its glorious carnage.

Arnold has to fly somewhere to do something for the bad guys, or they'll kill his daughter. So Arnold kills the bad dude escorting him on the airplane. JACK REACHER SPOILER ALERT - Reacher is going to do some cool things to bad guys on an airplane in "Never Go Back"!

He jumps out of the plane, lands in a swamp, and goes after his daughter. He sees Sully. I loved Sully! What a sleazebag! Did you know the actor that played Sully was also Luther in "The Warriors"? He's the guy that said "Warriors, come out to plaaay-eee-ayyy!" He actually made that line up himself!

Sully is important in that he is the first character ever that is killed by Arnold, and then memorialized in a deadpan line. Arnold drops Sully off a cliff and then goes ove to Rae Dawn Chong's car (she'll be "RDC" from now on). "Where's Sully?" shes asks. "I let him go," deadpans Arnold. And thus it began!

Arnold and RDC go to a hotel whereupon they meet Bill Duke. HELL YES, BILL DUKE! Wait...what? You don't know who Bill Duke is? Sure you do! It's this guy!

That's him in "Predator". Wow, how cool is that?!? He was in two of Arnold's greatest movies. And he was also in "Action Jackson", one of the Triumvirate of Cross-Pollinated Action Films. Bill Duke is THE MAN!

You know who else is the man? Another Bill - Bill Paxton. Remember how I told you he was in "Stripes"? Well, he's in "Commando" too! He plays Intercept Officer.

Anyway, Arnold and RDC break into a gun store that, like I'm sure every other gun store on the planet, has a secret room with enough firepower to take over Nebraska. Arnold loads himself up with every man-portable weapon that exists, steps outside, and gets arrested. Luckily, RDC blows up the paddy wagon, which doesn't kill anyone but does allow Arnold to escape.

They make their way via seaplane to a fictional island country right off the coast of Los Angeles, where evil wanna-be dictator Arius has holed up with former Australian Green Beret Bennett, as well as Arnold's daughter and a whole bunch of useless soldiers. One of the best lines ever was when one of the useless soldiers told Bennett, "Slitting a little girl's throat is like cutting warm butter". Bennett tells the guy to STFU, as Bennett correctly realizes that all of Arius's soldiers are useless wastes of food.

Arnold makes his way to the island and proceeds to blow everyone and everything away. You name it, Arnold uses it - including the blades from a circular saw. He finally meets up with Bennett, who goes crazy in one of the worst bits of "acting" I've ever seen. Arnold eventually inserts a pipe into Bennett's stomach, and tells Bennett to "let off a little steam".

YEAH! Arnold is so awesome. I wish he could be president, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

"Commando" gets Five Dropped Sullys out of a possible Five Dropped Sullys. It's perfect! And it's the perfect lead-up to the next Jack Reacher movie.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
