Last night we saw the movie that YOU need to see - "Bad Moms". Heck fire, this movie is two hours of non-stop laughs!

Now, this might come as a shock to you, but we went to see this one at the Star Cinema Grill, because they serve booze. Also, they have assigned seating and guess what? There was someone in our seats! We had seats I5 and I6, but there was a young couple sitting in them, and they already had food delivered, and were in the middle of eating it. I said, as nicely as I could with a giant smile on my face, "I never thought I'd say this in a movie theater, but you guys are in our seats". Turns out they had I15 and I16, and thought the "I" on the seats was a "1". So they thought "I5" was actually "15". Honest mistake, but my wife told me I was rude for making them move. Wait....what? Those are my seats, that I picked out specifically online! Where were WE supposed to sit? In THEIR seats? Guess what? There was somebody else in THEIR seats! It was mass confusion but I made sure we got our seats. I had to soothe my wife's unreasonable opinion of my heretofore unquestioned diplomatic abilities. You know what that meant, right?

Wine! Lots and lots of wine!

OK, we were going to have lots and lots of wine anyway.

I specifically chose this movie and this venue because I knew this would be an event. A PTA Moms-Booster Club Moms-Helicopter Moms-Sportsball Moms kind of event - and I was right! Of the total audience, I bet there were only about 10 dudes. The rest of the audience was made up of packs of PTA moms, taking selfies in front of the movie poster, selfies in their seats, selfies when they went to the bathroom (I'm guessing on that one but you know I'm probably right). It was AWESOME! I added to the festive atmosphere by periodically yelling out things like "You go, girl!" and "That ain't right!" and "I hear you, sister!" This was apparently much appreciated by all the PTA Moms in attendance, as I seem to recall them electing me King of The PTA Dads at some point.

This movie is pretty raunchy, but funny raunchy. Do not take your school-age kids to see it. Seriously, don't. You're a bad parent if you do. So sayeth the King of The PTA Dads.

But DO go see it with a pack of PTA Moms! Make a night out of it! Get blasted, go to a theater where they serve booze and get even more hammered, and Uber it on home later. I guarantee you will have the most fun of any night this summer!

This is where I'd normally summarize the plot but, what plot? Mila Kunis (who was great in this movie) is an over-worked, over-whelmed mother of two and she catches her husband yanking it online to some girl in a....what do you call it? You know, where you have a video interaction with someone? I forget, but he'd been doing it with the same video chick for 10 months, and was a total loser anyway, so Mila Kunis throws him out of the house.

She happens to meet two other girls from the PTA in a bar, who are an overwhelmed innocent, and a randy divorcee (that's putting it mildly). Oh! And guess who the enemy is?

Kelly Bundy!

Christina Applegate plays a character that is in every way the total opposite of Kelly Bundy. It would have been really cool if her character was named "Kelly Whatever" and you could spend part of the movie saying, "Is that really a married Kelly Bundy? Because if it is, that if F***ING COOL!" And if they'd had a cameo by Bud Bundy, I would have rated this movie as an equal to "Animal House". Seriously, this movie is THAT funny.

But they didn't, so I can't quite put "Bad Moms" up there with The Holy Foursome of "Animal House", "Caddyshack", "Stripes" and "This is Spinal Tap". But it's not far behind!

All kinds of hilarity ensues. Mila Kunis confiscates her loser husband's bright red 1970 Challenger, which has a 440 6-Pak and a brand new white interior from Legendary Interiors (I know the interior is from Legendary Interiors because every Mopar that's ever been restored has an interior from Legendary Interiors. Read any restoration article that's ever been published in any Mopar magazine ever, and you will see that I'm right). There are great lines aplenty - too many to mention. Kind of like "Deadpool". And like my review of "Deadpool", I won't spoil any of them - except for one. It has to do with booty sex. The joke itself is funny, but even funnier will be the reactions of the various packs of PTA Moms in your theater. If you are a dude, you will know EXACTLY when to say "You go, girl!"

Hey, and stay for the credits. There are some really cool things after the movie is over. I won't spoil it, but you will be glad you stayed. I promise.

I give "Bad Moms" 4 1/2 Bake Sales out of 5 Bake Sales. Go see it!

I think you seen a different "Bad Moms" than I seen because what was two hours of non stop laughs for you was two hours of torture for me... sad

LMAO, did it hit too close to home? Are you a PTA mom? Just kidding. You really didn't find that movie funny? ZOMG, the PTA Moms were busting a gut in our theater! IIRC, your child isn't that old yet, right? Or maybe y'all do the PTA thing (which means "Parent Teacher Association" in case y'all call it something else) differently or better in Ireland than we do it here.

But holey moley, did they hit the nail on the head when it comes to my experience! We had not one but probably 30 Kelly Bundys at our kids' intermediate school (grades 6 - 8). And we had about 100 of them at elementary school! There were some moms that spent the better part of their week at their child's school. It was ridiculous. The only time my parents ever came to my elementary school was when I got sent to the principal (5 times alone in 3rd grade, LOL).

So watching this movie just hit so many right buttons for me. The jokes were PERFECT and the characters were spot-on. How did the PTA moms at your theater like the movie?

My daughter is four and starting school next month. I'm fucking dreading it smile

But that's a story for another time. Regarding the movie, it's just not my type of thing. We don't really have the who PTA thing here, at least not in any of the schools I've been to. So maybe I just can't relate to some of it. Like you, the only time my mother came to my school was when my sister or I was getting in trouble. Which wasn't often (for me, anyway).

Nah, don't be worried. School is awesome. You'll both do fine and in about 10-12 years, you'll watch "Bad Moms" again and think it's the funniest thing you've ever seen. I promise!

I know what you're thinking. I do, I really do.

You're thinking: Did RodeoSchro watch "Sharknado 4 - The Fourth Awakens" or not?!?! Wait - how could there possibly be an "or not"?!?

OF COURSE I WATCHED IT.

Well, I forgot to watch it the first time it aired because we went to the Houston Dynamo match last night. We got home about 11:00 and the movie was half over. So I watched the last half of it. Which means...........

It's time for another exciting installment of Movies That I Watched The Last Half Of - Sharknado Edition!

When we got home, I was going to watch a pro-shot DVD of Prince's Stockholm '86 Parade Tour show that a friend gave me yesterday afternoon. I love the Parade tour! I only have the Birthday Show from Detriot on VHS tape, so this is my first Parade tour DVD. And this comes on the heels of watching Prince's now-classic "Under The Cherry Moon" masterpeice last weekened. I was so excited!

But when we got home and turned on the TV, "Sharknado" was on.

You know, if your viewing choice is a Prince concert vs. anything else in the world, well you make a mistake if you choose anything else in the world. I chose something else.

The Last Half of "Sharkano 4 - Four Rhymes With Bore And That's Not A Coincidence" was, you guessed it, boring. And stupid.

Now to be fair, the best parts of all the other "Sharknado" movies are generally the first 20 - 30 minutes. That's where most of the cameos are, and where the introductory hilarity shows up. So I probably should watch that part before passing final judgement on "Sharknado - Oh My God, They're Already Working On Sharknado 5".

So let's just end this right here, pending a complete viewing of The First Half Of "Sharknado 4 - There's No Way I'm Watching The Last Half Of That Movie Again".

But I don't know when that will be, because I have some Prince to watch!

Like with all the other Sharknado films I give it a 4 out of 5 popcorn , for the bad acting, cameos, in jokes, the Hoff, special effects and that theme song and opening credits.

Wow talk about two extremely different movie reviews! LOL!

It WAS a funny movie, but definitely not throughout. As I said before, the ending was boring as hell. If the second half was as good as the first half, it would be right up there with Daddy's Home. I think a lot of guys, myself included, automatically rated it a bit higher because it starred the sexiest woman in the world (http://www.dailymail.co.u...-list.html).

On a related note, there's been two separate incidents where groups of women left during the movie because one of them had brought an infant which is against theater rules for an R-rated movie. Talk about bad moms, if you can't find even one babysitter/friend/relative/spouse to watch your baby for a couple hours then don't go to the damn movie!

LOL, no kidding! There's a review of "Bad Moms" on Jezebel, and the poor girl that reviewed it treated it as if "Bad Moms" was a serious movie. LMAO, it's a comedy, for crying out loud! Everything about it is exaggerated. It was so funny reading this lady's outrageous indignation at how single and working moms were portrayed. Talk about clueless!

I told her that I bet she was upset at "Animal House" for how it depicted Phi Beta Kappas.

'Crimson Peak' I enjoyed it, more 4 the set than anything else really. The plot was too obvious. I really liked 'Pan's Labyrinth' so gave it a go.

I wanna see Bad Moms.

The last one I saw was Ghostbusters 2016, and it was alright! Not hilarious but neither were the eighties ones. The 1984 one and animated series was pretty big for me, and I enjoyed the reboot.

I watched The Program (2015) starring Ben Foster as Lance Armstrong. It was based on the book by David Walsh called "Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong" who spent many years uncovering the truth about how Lance cheated the system by using banned substances/practices to win the Tour de France 5 times. Previously I had watched a couple of docos about this topic, the most recent one called The Armstrong Lie (2013) which I think might be still on Netflix and Hulu, and I highly recommend it (5 out of 5) because it really details his rise and ultimate fall from grace. Plus it illustrates what a delusional narcissistic person he became with every victory, and with every deposition he gave denying he was a drug cheat. I give the film it a solid 4 out of 5 popcorn and Ben does a pretty job portraying Lance warts and all.

Five Minutes of Heaven (2009)

I'd recommend this to you all. A taut, emotionally charged, thrilling personal drama centered around the intersecting lives of two men (Liam Neeson, James Hibbert) in Ireland who decide to participate in the Truth and Reconciliation program in Ireland, 4 decades after a violent act changed both their lives. Neeson is always outstanding in these types of films, but Hibbert was a revelation. Really good film.

I enjoy some of Kevin Smith's movies (esp. Jason Mewes, Jeff Anderson and Jason Lee). All of them are seriously flawed (if you ask me), but that doesn't mean that some of them aren't very funny!

That said, I found this to be a piece of crap. doody Too many plot holes...unrealistic...predictable...cliched. Justin Long was funny, though (for the few minutes he's in the film).

The KS's I enjoyed most were:

1. Chasing Amy

2. Clerks II

3. Clerks.

This weekend I watched "Stripes". Talk about a movie that holds up! It's as funny now as it was in 1981. In fact, I rate "Stripes" as one of my Top Five Movies of All Time. The RodeoSchro Top Five Movies of All Time List:

1. Animal House
2. Caddyshack
3. Stripes
4. All Rocky, Rambo and Arnold movies (except, of course, "Kindergarten Cop")
5. This is Spinal Tap

You can't go wrong with that list!

The thing that I noticed about "Stripes" in this watching was just how perfect Bill Murray's comedy timing is. Holy smokes, he just nails everything. And I'm pretty sure a good portion of it was improvised. You can tell in his big speech before the "That's a fact, Jack!" performance that he's literally grabbing stuff out of thin air. It's comedic genius.

As is everything about the movie. For instance, casting. IMO casting directors don't get nearly enough credit. But every supporting actor in this film is PERFECT. The great Warren Oates - awesome. All the soldiers. It's easy to focus on John Candy, but how about the guys that played Francis (Conrad Dunn), Captain Stillman (Dan Larroquette), Cruiser (John Diehl), and most of the mud wrestlers including the emcee, SCTV's's Dave Thomas (wearing an awesome silk disco shirt!)? In fact, did you know Timothy Busfield from the horrid 90's TV series "ThirtySomething" was the soldier that fired the mortar that blew up the stand Sgt. Hulka was standing on? He was! And if you're REALLY sharp, you'll see that one of the Soldiers was none other than Bill Paxton. That man has gone on to much success but on his tombstone, I bet it will say "I was in 'Stripes!'" Also, it could say - and this is no joke - "I learned to speak German for my part in Pat Benatar's 'Shadows of the Night' video!" Who the heck leans a language for a music video?!? People are awesome! And ZOMG, none other than Dennis Quaid - yes, THE Dennis Quaid! - was an extra at the graduation! So let's hear it for the casting director, Karen Rea!

If someone knows Karen Rea, tell her about this incredible review. I Googled her and you talk about someone with no presence on the internet! Her IMDB page doesn't even list what she worked on, other than she got nominated for a daytime Emmy back in 2008 for her work on "The Young and the Restless" (she didn't win, which I am sure was a travesty).

I've spent the last hour trying to find out stuff on Karen Rea. You talk about a low profile! Here's what I found:

-She was the casting director on "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", which has William Sadler as The Grim Reaper
-She casted Sadler on "Tales From the Crypt". Sadler describes this as THE pivotal moment in his career (read this fascinating interview here: http://www.thehollywoodne...ew-111709/ )
-She was the casting director on "Ghostbuster" Ghostbusters! She did that!
-She was the casting director for "Action Jackson". Z...O...M...G! As faithful readers of mine know, "Action Jackson" was one of the Holy Triumvirate of Action Movies That Featured Cool Character Actor Dudes (the other two are "Die Hard" and "Big Trouble in Little China"). SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING ROBERT DAVI, AL LEONG AND VANITY IN THIS MOVIE! A Prince connection!!!!! How is this woman not a living legend?!?!?!?!?

She will be, if I have my way!

You know what? When I started fprming this review in my mind, I thought it would center around the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle. This was a modified GMC Palm Beach Motorhome. We've owned 5 or 6 of these over the years. Best motorhome we've ever owned! But after I fell down the Karen Rea rabbit hole, my stories of sliding down the mountain at Santa Fe in an EM-50 don't seem as captivating. Maybe another time.

"Stripes" is just Americana history. You HAVE to watch this movie. And then, after I find out how to reach Karen Rea, you HAVE to send her a note telling her how much you appreciate her genius, and her six-degrees-of-separation Prince connection. Maybe she has some cool Vanity stories!

I rate "Stripes" as Five Karen Rea is a Legend out of Five Karen Rea is a Legends. But what else would you expect from a Karen Rea film that is on my Top Five Movies of All Time list?

It's almost college football time! What does that have to do with movies, you ask? Glad you asked!

Due to a misfiring of his brainular synapses, my college frat brother bet me that a Big Ten team (Michigan State) would beat an SEC team (Alabama) in the National College Semifinal Playoff Game. It was a food-based bet, which means I just became the proud owner of TWO Authentic Gino's Chicago Deep Dish Pizzas. Which meant that Friday night was Pizza and Wine and A Movie Night at RodeoSchro's!

The wine (Meiomi Pinot Noir) was excellent. The pizza (pepperoni) was phenomenal. The movie was "The Boss".

Now, I truly believe that Melissa McCarthy is as funny as any man or woman currently doing comedy. She was great in "Bridesmaids". She was genius in "Spy". She cracks me up on "Saturday Night Live". I hear good things about her TV show.

So why does she so often pick characters that are completely unlikable?

I wanted to punch the screen at "Identity Thief". Based on that, and its horrible preview, I wouldn't even go see "Tammy" but those who did wanted to punch the screen. Same with "The Heat". Based on absolutely no one's raving of her work in "Ghostbusters", I'm guessing her character in that one is a stinker, too.

She outdoes herself in "The Boss". This woman is just completely repulsive. There is nothing about her that makes you want to root for her. Even the fact that she was raised in an orphanage doesn't generate any sympathy, because all the families that adopt her quickly return her, because she's just so unlikable.

McCarthy plays a hardass businesswoman, whose sole philosophy is "screw the other guy!" She has a really funny manservant - Cedric Yarbrough, who you'd better remember as Sergeant Jones from "Reno 911" - and she has Kristen Bell as her worked-to-the-bone assistant. Kristen Bell is in "Bad Moms", playing pretty much the same kind of woman, but is much much MUCH funnier in that movie.

It turns out that one of the hundreds of thousands of people McCarthy screwed at one time (figuratively and literally) was Peter Dinklage. The screwing of Dinklage ruined him so bad that he changed from wanna-be executive "Ronald" to corporate raider/Samurai enthusiast "Renault". His only mission in life is to exact revenge on McCarthy, which he does by getting her on an insider-trading charge.

McCarthy serves five months in a country club and wouldn't you know it? No one comes to pick her up when she's released, because no one likes her. So she goes to Bell's apartment and even though Bell's daughter has been given explicit instructions to not let McCarthy anywhere near their home, McCarthy of course becomes their houseguest/tenant.

I know you will be surprised, or mad at me for not telling you a spoiler is coming, but McCarthy doesn't become any nicer.

She attends a Dandelions meeting with Bell's daughter (Bell is a single mom of course, and the Dandelions are really the Girl Scouts, of course) and realizes that the Dandelions' sales of cookies amounts to $34 billion a year nationwide. The Dandelions don't get anything for this except a badge, so McCarthy immediately tries to take over. But she is rebuffed by a kickass mom, who doesn't appreciate having an ex-con involved. I bet you know what's coming next!

Yep, McCarthy starts her own Girl Scouts group, which sells the brownies that Kristen Bell makes. Help me out here. Is Kristen Bell the Plainest Pretty Girl in Movies, or is she the Prettiest Plain Girl in Movies? It's one or the other, and I just can't decide which. Anyway, her brownies are a big hit and with the help of McCarthy's version of The Bad News Bears, they hit the mean streets of whatever city this movie was set in, and start selling brownies.

Which leads to the cliche'ed Rumble in the Jungle when the Dandelions meet the McCarthyites (LOL, that wasn't what they were called but it really fits!) on a block both claim as their own. You know, I guess it's kind of funny watching Melissa McCarthy stick a brownie (with nuts!) up the a** of the Dandelion Mom, but it's really NOT funny watching a bunch of 12-year-old girls punching and kicking each other in the private parts. It's creepy, if you want to know the truth.

Well of course the brownies are a hit; of course McCarthy sets up a company and screws Bell out of her ownership; of course Peter Dinklage shows up and does whatever it is he does; and of course they have a big fight in the end.

Here's another comedy device that just does not work: You can't have two characters trying to actually kill each other by slicing them to bits with machetes and Samurai swords one minute, and then having them joke about trying to kill each other a minute later, just before ramming their tongues down each other's throats. Remember "War of the Roses"? Yeah, I didn't think so.

But don't worry. Someone tell Melissa McCarthy that I'm going to take over selecting movie roles for her. I will steer her away from mistakes like "The Boss" and "Identity Thief" and "Tammy". I will hook her up with legendary casting director Karen Rea (who Facebook has recommended to me as a "Person I Might Know"!). We will fix this. Because Melissa McCarthy is just too dang funny to keep playing turkey roles in turkey movies.

I rate "The Boss" as 1 1/2 Turtlenecks out of 5 Turtlenecks (she only wore turtlenecks in this movie, which also wasn't funny).

The Secret Life Of Pets was lame except for a badass Standard Poodle that made only two or three brief appearances.

nod yeahthat it was really good film and should have gotten more Oscar nominations 4 out of 5 popcorn warts and all. Great tribute to a ground breaking rap group, that deserved to be in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame.

I was skeptical that Dre and Cube were going to tell the story from their point of view, but I think overall it was balanced (other than Dre's issues with hitting women).

F. Gary Gray, who was getting his start directing videos during that time, was the ideal guy to direct the film because he had a front-row seat to all of it.

I think actually my favorite portrayals other than Cube (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) and Eazy (Jason Mitchell) was DJ Yella. Neil Brown Jr.'s portrayal was hysterical. The cast was great from top to bottom.

It's sad we only see some of these great actors in ensemble minority films. That goes for Latinos, Pacific Asians and ethnics as well.

Central Intelligence 4 / 10

What didn't you like about it? I thought it was great.

I just thought it was a very run of the mill comedy. It didn't make me laugh. I enjoyed it but thought it was just ok.

Star Trek Beyond 2.5/5 Well it was a very busy movie. Lots of stuff got tore up and destroyed including the Enterprise. Spock got all weepy, then chuckled and doing the whole gps-ing her girlfriend thing hmm Lots of people screaming their lines in an excited fashion so we will know just how stressful and dire the situation was. Tons of cliches to the point of not being amusing at all. There's a great big Inception like world. A human who lived so long he turned into a reptilian like creature, but somehow turns almost back into a human like creature for what reasons I haven't a clue. I liked the warp bubble because that's one thing that confuses me in the ST universe, how the heck do you see someone traveling at warp speed on your viewer screen given all the physics bending stuff involved. I liked the few moments that Spock and Bones spent together even with Spock's emotional display. Lots of aliens. There's a saucer separation *sigh* There's a dense meteor belt in a nebula near a class M planet, yep makes perfect sense.

1. Chasing Amy

2. Clerks II

3. Clerks.

Oh man... I don't think I ever realized Zack & Miri was a Kevin Smith flick.

About as expected; an entertaining film.

I agree. Not as good as the first two in this new franchise, but still worth seeing. 3.5/5

I saw Star Trek Beyond over the weekend, and I'd probably give it the same rating (or 2.8/5 lol )... I don't know, maybe I'm losing my affinity for the big summer blockbuster style movies, but I left the theater feeling kind of empty.... It had almost, too much action for me. I wanted more charater interaction, maybe a thicker plot, and more time to explore the planet they were crashed on.
The scenes I liked most were those between Jaylah and Scotty. I would have liked somemore background story on her.

If you will, so will I

I liked Jaylah actually. I caught myself deeply studying her face, I think the way they did her makeup intrigued me.

It didn't feel Star Trekkie to me this time around. I was just a big action film in space. I liked Independence 2 better, more authentic character personalities and interaction.

EXACTLY! Just any old action packed summer movie, but in space. I'd hardly even consider it sci-fi...

I'll take your word for it on Independence Day 2.. Even with sex-god Jeff Goldblum in it, I can not bring myself to watch that. lol

If you will, so will I
