Ghostbusters (2016)

I was more than a bit sceptical when I seen there was to be a remake of Ghostbusters. After all, the original is one of my favourite movies ever and I think the best comedy film ever made. But I hoped that the new movie would do what so many remakes before it failed to do and match the original.

BUT, then I heard that it was to be directed by the guy behind Bridesmaids, a movie I truly hate. But I thought, "maybe he might do it justice".

THEN they announce that it is to have an all female cast. Now, obviously, I have no problem with seeing women represented in movies, but something felt off with having all 4 ghostbusters played by women. Esepcially women I find to be far from funny.
At this point, I was fearing the worst. But I still clung to the hope that it couldn't be as bad as I thought it would be.

NOW, the trailer is out for the new movie and it's bloody worse than I could have ever imagined. It looks fucking awful. I've never hoped for a movie to flop before but I really hope this fails and is seen by as few people as possible. It pains me to think that children my daughters age will grow up thinking this travesty is the Ghostbusters.

Just buy the originals like I did and show them to your kids and watch them laugh their asses off. Thid rip-off travesty shouldldn't go straight to video; it should go straight into the garbage can.

That says it all. Not even Walter Peck could get on board with this sad excuse for a Ghostbusters movie.

I must be in the minority cause I didn't think the originals were all that. I just don't understand the need for a remake or the vitriol over a new one. neutral

I would say Ghostbusters 2 was good, but only good. But the first one is a classic. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis all in their prime. Compare the cast of the original with the cast of the remake. Its like they didn't even try. My problem with the new movie being made is that Ghostbusters is a movie I grew up with. When I was a little girl, before I even started school, I remember ghostbusters and Beetlejuice were my two favourite movies. They're sacred to me, and it seems, a lot of others. The fact that Sony Pictures are showing zero respect for the franchise I hold so dear is heartbreaking. I mean, if they wanted to cash in on the Ghostbusters name, would it have been too much to ask that they hire someone competent to write and direct it? At least try to make a good movie.

I've been looking forward to a new Ghostbusters film for a long time. When I heard one was finally on the way, after many false starts, I was pretty pleased.

Then I heard the cast list.

Then I saw the trailer.

sad

I know how you feel. I initially gave it the benefit of the doubt but having seen the trailer, that's the last straw. And I know this is far from its biggest flaw, but I can't get over how they think it's OK to send out 4 women, 2 of which appear to be far from peak physical fitness, to catch ghosts, yet they have Thor answering phones as the receptionist.

They wanted to reboot it in a new way. Women being the central characters-not the side characters like the original one. It's called breaking the glass ceiling. I'm not defending the ending result, but they broke the glass and that's a good thing.

Having all women wouldn't be terrible in theory. But the women they cast are painfully unfunny in my opinion. Not only that, Paul Feig is the wrong choice to direct. A lot of the best jokes in the original was very subtle, underplayed. The complete opposite of what this guy does. He seems to be of the school of "shouting loudly = funny".

If I were involved in any reboot (and personally, I think there shouldn't even be a new one), I would have had Dan Aykroyd's character looking to reassemble the team. So he'd be the leader, then I'd have 3 younger people play the new ghostbusters. Off the top of my head, Kenan Thompson as the next in line to take over (to keep the SNL thing going), Tina Fey and Liam Hemsworth as Oscar (the baby from part 2). Throw in some cameos from Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver as Oscars parents, Ernie Hudson could be the mayor who gives them the go ahead to restart the business and they could have a statue of Harold Ramis outside the fire station. It basically writes itself. I made up all this off the top of my head and it's still a better idea than what they've come up with.

I don't mind them all being women, it's the casting I can't stand. Melissa McCarthy? Really? Jesus.

I don't mind the casting or director as i was a fan o Bridesmaids smile. Leslie something (the African American dame) is hilarious n the other young lady i don't know is hot. I never really watched the original(s) so i can't call it. Just loved Bobby Brown as a kid n the logo with the ghost up there. So much so that i went 2 a dozen stores 2 cop the tee lol. I'll peep it eventually maybe. The trailer is lame i concur except when Leslie is slapping McCarthy. Something y'all wanna do apparently tease. I find her delightful at best. The Heat = falloff :lurk;

I don't have a problem with the cast, or it being all female. I think the mistake here is doing a remake in the first place. If this was a "Next Generation" type of thing, with these ladies being the daughters or proteges of the original, then I think it could have been fun. Making it just a gender-swapped version of the first film is not only lazy, it's a disservice to these women and their talents.

The "comedy" displayed in the trailer shows exactly what kind of film this is. It doesn't matter if it was a remake, sequel, prequel, reboot or anything else, if they're going for this kind of "humour", then it's going to be crap regardless. It doesn't look like the Ghostbusters. Its more like a female version of Grown Ups 2. With 4 Adam Sandlers. sad
