I don't have a problem with the cast, or it being all female. I think the mistake here is doing a remake in the first place. If this was a "Next Generation" type of thing, with these ladies being the daughters or proteges of the original, then I think it could have been fun. Making it just a gender-swapped version of the first film is not only lazy, it's a disservice to these women and their talents.

The "comedy" displayed in the trailer shows exactly what kind of film this is. It doesn't matter if it was a remake, sequel, prequel, reboot or anything else, if they're going for this kind of "humour", then it's going to be crap regardless. It doesn't look like the Ghostbusters. Its more like a female version of Grown Ups 2. With 4 Adam Sandlers. sad

So basicaly a bad 2000's Saturday Night Live skit

That's cold... But so right...Don't know what "Grown Ups 2" is but anything Adam Sandler is diarrhea inducing...
Plus the fact that that punch-face Melissa McCarthy is in it and a "token black ghetto loud mouth" stereotype means this is all kinds of stupid...

"Punch-face Melissa Mccarthy". biggrin

I sincerely hope you never have the misfortune of watching Grown Ups 2. Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock (at his absolute worst) and that guy that looks like Beck whose name I can't remember. Check out the "Honest Trailer" for it on YouTube. It sums it up perfectly.

Yes, it just goes to show that the ENTIRE approach to this film is wrong. My point was, the idea of an all-female cast really isn't the problem...it's the fact that they are going the path of least resistance by making a remake, and pandering to the audience with dumbed-down humor. IF they had taken the path of making it a "next generation" type of film, keeping the cerebral humor from the first two films, then this could have been great. As it is, this will be a forgotten, bad summer comedy that will taint the Ghostbusters franchise.

How many trailers are out? I saw one in the theater 2 days ago, it didn't seem THAT bad.

And I don't know much about the other actresses, but Melissa McCarthy is gold right now. Third-highest paid actress, hit TV show, owns a clothing line, and every movie she's in has done well at the box office. She's not as attractive as her cousin, but she's funny as hell.

Do you honestly think she's funny? I've been forced to watch a few episodes of her TV show and as far as I can see, it's all fat jokes and not very good ones at that. I suppose if you like that kind of comedy where the LOUDER THE CHARACTER TALKS, THE FUNNIER IT IS, then I can see why you would be of the opinion that the trailer for the new ghostbusters isn't that bad but there's so many things they could have done with a third movie and turning it into a female led Bridesmaids type "comedy" with special effects that look more like a PlayStation 2 game than a 150 million dollar budget movie is not what I was hoping for. The reason why the first movie is considered to be a classic is because they didn't have to SHOUT to deliver a punchline. It had Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis all in their prime. Like I said before, I have no problem with an all female cast IF it fits the story. But it seems that this was a deliberate attempt to shoehorn women into a film to capitalise on the box office success of Paul Feigs previous movies. The first ghostbusters came about from a story idea Dan Aykroyd had about a team of ghost catchers. This new movie is just a shameless and lazy attempt at cashing in and I don't think it will be as successful as they think it will. They've alienated any ghostbusters fans with the casting and director choices and their intended audience of Bridesmaids fans are less likely to go see a ghostbusters movie because there's nothing relatable about that for women.

Her TV show is not my type of comedy, but in movies I do think she's funny. She killed it in Identify Theft, Tammy, The Heat, etc and the previews for The Boss look great. She's also writing and producing movies now.

Did you like Roseanne Barr? They are similar, if you didn't like Roseanne then you won't like Melissa.

As for Ghostbusters, I won't judge it on just the trailer. That wouldn't be fair.

I didn't like Roseanne and I know I shouldn't judge a movie based on its trailer but having seen the trailer, the cast, the director and the style of comedy and tone they're going for, it's a safe bet I won't like it.
