Rate The Last Movie You Watched!

For some reason the other thread wouldn't let me post. Anyhoo.

Witty, Funny, well written and well acted. Enjoyed this film untill the last act when it turned into nothing more than a typical rom com with a happy ending. Shame really goes it was going very well till then.

I really enjoyed watching this ,and going to the movies with a bunch of friends and their little kids definitely played a big part but, as an oldschool Star Wars fan, it felt a bit weird to watch a story unfold that was not written by George Lucas. Maybe that´s a good thing but it still felt weird to me to know that most of it was based on the imagination of other people, like JJ Abrams who also happens to be a fan.

Much can be said about this movie but it has been discussed ad nauseum here on the org and elsewhere, so I will leave it at that and not go into the pros and cons of this movie.

I liked it, I enjoyed it, but to my amazement this is the one Star Wars film that two dear friends of mine who had NEVER watched a Star Wars before could still thoroughly enjoy, whereas most oldschool fans´ initial reactions were a bit meh.

Anyway, good movie with some serious plotholes and a bit of a thin plot.

7 / 10

Edit: In hindsight, the more I think about this movie, the less enthusiastic I feel about it. 7 out of 10 stars....instead of the initial 8/10.

Too many plotholes, bad pacing, very rushed story, they basically jump from one planet or scene to the other as if the galaxy were one big city or country, and the stupid references or jokes by Han Solo were not really funny and pointless . (the trash compactor remark, the "I have a bad feeling about this..." part, etc. etc. ). And why did Han use Chewies bowcaster for the first time? And was it really necessary for him to comment on it? Very corny.

Much has been written about this movie (here on the org, including myself, or professional critics in reviews, mostly positive things) so I won´t go into any details.

I am a true Rocky fan, I liked parts I, II and III and don´t like IV and V, loved part VI (Rocky Balboa) but when I first read about this movie last year during its pre-production phase, I thought it was a terrible idea.

I don´t want to say more than this: I absolutely LOVE this movie! And Sylvester Stallone should get an Oscar for this....his acting is probably the best of his career.

What a beautiful , touching movie about life, death, friendship and love. Most of all, friendship and that sometimes the people you feel closest to don´t necessarily have to be from your real family.

It's time for another exciting chapter of Movies I Watched The Last Half Of - SPECIAL "DIE HARD IS THE ROOT OF MANY ACTION MOVIES" Edition!

Last night I watched the last half of "Big Trouble In Little China". I'd been wanting to see that movie for YEARS. Kurt Russell is a way under-appreciated action star IMO, and also I spent about 10 years saying, "Big trouble in Little China!" any time anything went wrong. I'd never seen the movie, but I just liked saying "Big trouble in Little China!" Still do, in fact!

I tuned into this movie about halfway through. Near as I could tell, some Chinese dudes stole Kurt Russell's truck, which did not sit well with Kurt Russell or his assorted friends. So they went to a magical, mystical building in order to: (A) save some people; (B) kill Lo-Pan, who is apparently the Chinese version of a vampire; and (3) get Kurt Russell's truck back.

They accomplished all three missions but the beauty of this movie is that it's sooooooo campy. Kurt Russell stands out in the rain and then viola! He's immediately dry, with perfect hair. Kurt Russell's Chinese sidekick is fighting an adversary. They do about 1,000 aerial flips and somersaults, never landing a blow on one another. At one point they land, face each other, and wiggle their eyebrows as if to say "Hey! We're pretty good fighters!" Stuff like that. I loved it!

But here's the thing: I'm watching Kurt Russell and his buddies slay the Chinese bad guys and I say, "Hey! That one bad guy looks like that Chinese bad guy that was in Hans Gruber's gang! You know - the dude that took some candy bars right before the big gun battle!" (If you tell me you do not know who Hans Gruber is, you lose all rights to ever post in a "Rate The Last Movie You Watched" thread - FOREVER.)

Could my powers of observation be correct? Well, I went to be not knowing, because I really didn't think that would ever happen again.

I was wrong!

Today, I watched the last half of "Action Jackson". This was also a movie I'd been wanting to see for a long time. I mean, it has APOLLO FREAKING CREED in it! Carl Weathers is just THE MAN. As I am sure you will agree, he was awesome in "Predator". (If you tell me you haven't seen "Predator" then you can't be my friend. I want everyone to be my friend so if you haven't seen "Predator", drop what you're doing and watch it immediately.)

It also has Vanity, who plays a smack addict. Not much of a stretch, apparently.

And, it features Craig T. Nelson playing the part of Evil Republican - also not much of a stretch for him! BTW, here is one of - if not THE - greatest pieces of irony ever caught on tape. Craig T. Nelson is railing against goverment hand-outs to those no-good lazy liberals. What kind of sleazy scumbag would EVER take money from the government?!? Well watch this!

AWESOME.

So anyway, Carl Weathers is burdened with a horrible script that makes him deliver really ridiculous lines like "You don't want to piss me off" and "Now you are pissing me off!" Also, Sharon Stone is in this movie but she got killed before I turned it on, so I never saw her.

But do you know who I did see?

That's right - the Chinese dude from "Big Trouble in Little China"! Also, I thought I saw Argyle and that guy who looked like Huey Lewis from "Die Hard"! No freaking way! Could this many great character actors be in ALL THREE OF THESE CINEMATIC CLASSICS?!?

HELL YES THEY COULD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prepare to have your mind blown:

Al Leong http://www.imdb.com/name/..._fc_cl_t31 is Wing Wong Hatchet Man in "Big Trouble In Little China". He is Dellaplane's Chauffer in "Action Jackson". And he is Uli in "Die Hard".

Dennis Hayden http://www.imdb.com/name/..._fc_cl_t17 is Shaker in "Action Jackson". He is "Eddie" AKA The Guy That Looks Like Huey Lewis in "Die Hard".

De'veroux White http://www.imdb.com/name/..._fc_cl_t31 is Clovis in "Action Jackson". He is the unforgettable Argyle in "Die Hard".

But wait - there's more!

While doing my extensive research for this post, I noticed that Robert Davi http://www.imdb.com/name/..._fc_cl_t22 was also in multiple movies! He played Tony Moretti in "Action Jackson". And of course he was awesome as FBI Special Agent Big Johnson in "Die Hard".

Talk about being in the Holy Trinity of Action Movies!

For years I thought no one could ever match Sarah Holcomb. She was in only four movies but two of them are "Animal House" and "Caddyshack". These movies rank #1 and #2 in RodeoSchro's All Time Favorite Movies. Thinking about it, Sarah Holcomb still is unmatched.

But those dudes that cross-pollinated "Die Hard", "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Action Jackson" get Honorable Mention!

I give the two movies that are the subjects of this installment of Movies That I Watched The Last Half Of 3.5 Massacres out of 5 Massacres.

But I am obliged to give myself Infinity Stars of Observation for recognizing all the great stuff above!

Concussion 8/10 - Will was very good. And will probably get lots of best actor nods. Not sure he'll win many, esp. not the Oscar. Not because he's undeserving but because the role is more nuanced which i'm not sure is appreciated these days. I have a mancrush on the real Dr. Amalu now!

I was disappointed with this, 'cause her standup is so sharp. Totally agree that Act III went disappointingly conventional rom-com. To quote a Bruce Cockburn song, "And that was truly the biggest heartbreak of all".

At best, I'd give it 2.5 out of 4. But that's just me. shrug

This is a pet peeve of mine. The Academy (and a lot of other awards-givers and critics) always seems to go for the over-the-top caricatures. Those are the easy ones to play.

I debated about posting this one, because I didn't even watch enough of it to place it in the Movie That I Watched The Last Half Of. And, I know there's a segment of the org that absolutely loves this movie (and the others in this franchise). But here goes:

I flicked around "The Dark Knight Rises". Flick, you say? Why flick?

Because this movie was so boring that I just could not watch it in long doses.

I've tried to like this abortion of a Batman. I really have. I watched some of the movie that had Heath Ledger in it. He was good; Batman sucked.

This movie was supposed to be a blockbuster. The Bane dude was supposed to be some great monster. The Batman was supposed to be a badass.

Fail.

Christian Bale doesn't make a hair on Michael Keaton's forearm when it comes to being Batman. His voice is horrible. He has no presence. There is no there there.

I'm going to go see "Batman Vx. Superman" when it comes out. Now, thanks to this movie, I'll be rooting for Superman even harder. (Plus, we all know that unless Batman has some Kryptonite, he wouldn't stand a chance against Superman. Supes could kill Batman three different ways without moving a muscle.)

I'm not even going to rate this movie, out of respect for the Orgers that like this Batman. But man, I sure didn't.

This was on TV, last night. Had never seen it before.

While the jokes were hit-and-miss, some of them made me laugh out loud. And I liked the fact that this movie was an equal-opportunity offender. Giovanni Ribisi also made for a very creepy villain.

Yes on well... pretty much everything ! I just finished watching The Revenant, and i must say that its one of the most well directed, well acted movies that I've ever seen. Its roughly two hours and 36 minutes, and the story kept me on edge the whole time. Man, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom hardy? Them dudes are bad ass actors. Leonardo probably deserves an Oscar for his acting in that movie. 9/10

Another bad ass movie is Sicario. Sicario's plot revolves around narco terrorism (in Mexico and the USA) and the US government's attempts to control it. Benicio del Toro is in it, as well as Josh Brolin, and they both kick ass. Totally wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. 8/10

Anyway, everybody stay safe out there. Those leaks are making noise...

Saw Chi-Raq. A mixed bag. Very well filmed, not all good as actual film. They didn't attack the cops enough.

That black woman is really hot.

No Golden Globe.

The Hateful 8 is great. No Globe either. boo. It starts out as a traditional western, then it is a suspense thriller, then ends as a slasher film. wild.
