I love how you say you don't like blood and gore - and people recommend a bunch of slasher movies. Some people just can't follow directions. lol

I am a huge fan of movies that are suspenseful without being in-your-face horror. You might like these:

The Innocents (1961) - incredibly scary and creepy movie, with absolutely no gore whatsoever

http://www.imdb.com/title...lmg_act_17

Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) - creepy and a bit of a mind fuck, but not super scary

http://www.imdb.com/title...f_=nv_sr_1

Forbidden Planet (1956) - classic sci-fi thriller based on Shakespeare's The Tempest

http://www.imdb.com/title...fn_al_tt_1

And of course, you need a little Hitchcock in there. Besides the usual Psycho and The Birds, these older films are great. Suspenseful, but definitely not in the horror genre.

Spellbound (1945) - Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman

Notorious (1946) - Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman

Strangers on a Train (1951) - Farley Granger and Robert Walker

Shadow of a Doubt (1943) - Joseph Cotton and Teresa Wright

Rebecca (1940) - Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, with Judith Anderson as the extremely creepy Mrs. Danvers

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

eek This film literally scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. One of the creepiest vampire films I've ever seen. I still can't watch the part when the kid hovering above, knocking at the window rises out of the casket. To this day, I always have to turn my head away or fast foward thru that part. confused

Low-budget film but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just the building of the suspense was magnificent! Great flick!

As a hard-core horror junkie, I heartily agree with 95% of the recommendations on here. I personally love this film for Halloween night viewing:

Not really "scary", per se, but it is loaded with wonderful imagery, great performances & fantastic stories. Only John Carpenter's original Halloween tops it for Halloween night viewing!

It should be a comedy, not a horror movie. razz lol Wolfen was a much better horror movie from the same time period.

what????????? I think Wolfen is horrible! The Howling and American Werewolf in London were and probably are the only two good werewolf movies every made in my opinion. They both have comedy elements as well as groundbreaking effects and horrific moments too. Have you seen all these recently or are you going off of memory?

I'm watching the Howling now. It is funny--I'll say that for it. American Werewolf in London is a classic.

yep. imo, what makes it even more intriguing is the fact that although it looks like a classic 80s b-horror genre, in fact it was filmed in 2009
