This is the first image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman

Snyder's "Unite the Seven" tagline could either be a reference to the seven seas, or to the seven members of the Justice League. It's reported that the director will use the upcoming Batman v. Superman to introduce the entire superhero squad, fleshing DC Comics' movies out to rival the scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Look for other characters, including Wonder Woman, the Flash, and the Martian Manhunter, to be revealed on Snyder's feed over the coming weeks.

Snyder has arguably started slow — Aquaman's always been something of a poor relation to the rest of the Justice League. Where Superman can fly, shoot lasers from his eyes, and turn back time by spinning the planet too fast, Aquaman can talk to fish. The idea of a gritty, rebooted Aquaman covered in tribal tattoos isn't totally convincing just yet, but Snyder obviously believes in the character — the director recently called in to a Detroit radio show to defend the hero. At least Momoa's Aquaman looks like he'd jab you with his trident if you called him useless.

Great! DC has a lot of catching up to do.

I LOVE this look. He looks amazing! I think Snyder is going to start revealing the other characters in this fashion as we go along. The tagline is definitely specifically related to Aquaman. I can't wait to see the looks and the taglines for the others.

If Snyder manages to reinvent Aquaman, he will have made Geekdom history.

This is an awesome recharacterization of a way underrated superhero! I hope they significantly revamp his backstory and extend his powers to include not only an Atlantean physiology and command over marine life, but perhaps also some degree of hydrokinesis, like his wife in the books.

It's always disappointed me how DC has gotten this character wrong. The ocean isn't just a goldfish bowl, it's the primordial crib of all life on earth and absolutely critical to the very statis of the planet. Inasmuch as there'd be a King of the Seven Seas, he should always have looked of some ancient, "exotic" extraction (exotic, at least, to most of us) -- and been utterly badass. I feel like this latest treatment might finally get it right.

I wonder if he is from the same Momoa family that went to the Kingdom Hall when I was younger. There was a Momoa boy in my class and there were other Momoa kids which I don't remember their names. The boy in my class had hazel eyes and looked similar to this guy. I don't know, don't really care, but I always wonder if it is whenever I hear the name. The mother of this family lives nearby.
