Hadn't heard of it. Fingers crossed.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is a 2014 romantic horror comedy film directed by Spike Lee. It was the first of Lee's films to be funded through Kickstarter.[1] The film was released on June 22, 2014 on American Black Film Festival as the closing film.[2] The film is scheduled to be released in theaters and on VOD on February 13, 2015, by Gravitas Ventures.

Spike Lee describes the film as being about: "Human beings who are addicted to blood. Funny, sexy and bloody. A new kind of love story (and not a remake of 'Blacula')." [3] The film has also been described as being "...a remake — at times scene for scene and shot for shot — of “Ganja and Hess,” playwright and filmmaker Bill Gunn’s landmark 1973 indie that used vampirism as an ingenious metaphor for black assimilation, white cultural imperialism and the hypocrisies of organized religion."

This project has been on my radar for a couple years, and I was really excited about it... until the recent circulation of it being a remake of Ganja and Hess. confused

I love Spike, but his remake of Oldboy left much to be desired. Moreover, Ganja and Hess, while far from perfect, has come to hold a certain place of respect in the African American film canon. I'm sure this has been a labor of love for Spike, but some objects of affection are best left untouched.

These remakes musy leave people wondering if he's simply run out of his own ideas.

It's not just Spike. Hollywood filmmakers and even some independent filmmakers alike are running out of original ideas.

Certain films are better off not being remade OR rebooted.

Looks interesting. His movies are generally hit or miss for me.. kinda like Woody Allen's movies or Jim Jarmusch's moves.. I'll definitely see it though.

Change it one more time..

Saw it. It's imperfect, and the third act, in particular, is weak, IMHO. But I have to say that Spike does justice to the original and plugs in some of his own very workable additions. It's worth the money. nod

I've seen it as well plus it is availabe for rent or purchase at vimeo.com . I am or was not familiar with the original movie prior to watching Spike's take so I can't compare the two but my opinion on his that it's just OK. What Spike does well in this version is get great cinematogrpahy and clean looks, I'd drink blood myself to live in the house used on Martha's Vineyard with all of that African art. I'd rank this film about a C+ or about as good as Crooklyn, worth the watch but if you don't see it twice then there's no miising out.
