I see it as part of the whole nostalgia thing that also makes us go back to vintage clothing and vinyl. And that must be a reaction to the uncerainty of our times (you know, financial crisis, terrorism...) Or it's a reaction to feminism.
As for myself, I usually let my beard grow because I'm too lazy to shave every day and I've been told it looks good on me, but after about a week or so I get tired of it and take up that razor after all.

Beards are a reaction to feminism??

Could be. Here in Holland, there's some discussion about culture becoming more feminine. Like so many female teachers that boys have fewer role models. So it could be seen as a reaction to that movement: men want to become more "manly". Just a theory...

But Fauxie, don't you think that some guys just NEED some form of facial hair? Look at Ed Norton. He has virtually no chin. When he has a goatee or at least the scruff version of one, it adds instant dimension to an otherwise baby face. I'm trying to think of other men who need the same - with some facial folical focal point, but it is still too early in the morning and I haven't had my coffee yet.

As for you, I remember the pic with a small goatee you had a few years ago that was posted. No one made any complaints - in fact, they were all goo-goo over seeing your handsome mug! (Remember Imago - he was virtually proposing!) So maybe it depends on how good-looking the man is. In your case, you could wear Groucho Marx glasses and moustache and make 'em look good.

A lot of men I know have breads because shaving cuts up their faces... its either a beard or ingrown hair bumps. That latter isn't attractive at all...

================my GOD bread... I don't think so. lol

Different strokes for different folks. I rock a goatee all day. In fact I would feel naked

without it. I can shape my goatee different ways. I can rock it full. I can rock it light

or I can shape it thin which tends to be the favorite look among fellows that wear goatees.

Yes! I used to shave around my beard to neaten it up, trying not to shave too much so as not to fuck up my skin, and still I would end up looking red and messed up. I started to think a scruffy beard looked way better than a neat one and fucked up skin. By the time I found a way to compromise and still have it quite neat my skin was a bit more resistant. Now I just shave a little here and there as and when I feel like it, and usually when I'm not going out or at night. That seems to be best. smile

My brother has worn a beard -got the spelling right this time- since he was 19. He's very fair and when he shaved the boy looked like he'd been in a knife fight. Unlike our father he couldn't use that powdery stuff that turns into a paste. My brother used that stuff once and his face looked like the inside of a pomegranate. ill

Have you always had a goatee my lil' phunkdaddy? I must admit I like men with full goatee's and nicely trimmed.

About a month ago, the longest it's been in years (hair too).

Back to keeping it pretty short now, but still covering a lot of my face. I don't like doing all those neat lines anymore.

Now see what I mean? I don't think this looks bad at all. You'd "fit right in" in my neighborhood and this would certainly bring all the girls (and a few boys) to the yard! On another note, the pose with a coffee mug in front of you reminded me that I've seen coffee cups with moustaches, goatees, and beards printed right on 'em, so it only looks as if you have facial hair when the mug is held up to your face.

I got both positive and negative feedback from friends and family for this pic. lol My default hair and beard are way shorter, but it's nice to let it go once in a while.

No girls come to my yard, bearded or nay. lol

I like to let it grow for Fall and Winter months but keep it shaped. My mom hates it,My ex hated it(even stubble) My kids are amazed by it and want to grow theirs out. Co worker likes it and complains how her boyfriends beard is not up to par. go figure.

Well 8 years strong. I keep it nicely trimmed. I do work with some attractive females. lol

I think your brother may have used the wrong Magic Shave. If you he used the red or blue

can it will peel the skin off your face. Have to use the milder gold and black can.

Not sure how you see goatees and mullets the same.

Mullets were really an 80's fad much like the poofy hair ladies wore

in the 80's

Fat or skinny at the end of the day I just couldn't get over the fact that he was a grown man with a mouth full of baby teeth.
