9 New Marvel films announced, Captain America 3 will be Civil War... but how????

So u've probably seen it: Marvel announced a schedule of 9 new movies past Avengers:Age Of Ultron and Ant-Man, until 2019:

Captain America: Civil War

Thor: Ragnarok

Black Panther

Dr. Strange

Inhumans

Captain Marvel

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

Avengers: Infinity War Pt. 1 and 2

.

All this is friggin' exciting if u ask me!!! The Avengers two-parter promises to be a hell of an epic probably involving EVERYONE against Thanos, including the Guardians and Doc Strange, but i wonder what Civil War means for that 2016 Cap film. The whole concept of Civil War is that the government passes a superpowered individuals registration act where all super-heroes have to reveal their civil identity and then the whole community splits into 2 sides, for and against the new law.

.

Way I see it the problem here is that by 2016 how many heroes do we have on earth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Cap, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Falcon, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Black Panther. Even if you add Nick Fury and Phil Coulson to that list that's still well... TWENTY individuals, not all superpowered and whose most identities are already known by the US government. I find this odd, for how do you set a civil war between twenty people lol? And what's the point anyway if US authorities know the identities of all save maybe Ant-Man, Daredevil and Iron Fist? Not to say it won't work but I'm just extremely curious to see what they got in mind.

The concept of a registration act for super-heroes and vigilantes predates Watchmen by a few years, it goes back to a 1981 issue of Uncanny X-Men (Watchmen was published in 1987) and has been reexplored countless times ever since in a multitude of comics. Ironically, before using it in Watchmen Alan Moore himself had already used it in a 1981-84 Captain Britain storyline.

The storyline, overall concepts and treatment of the Civil War series is totally different from Watchmen anyway, so no I doubt both films will have much in common.

Watchmen (the movie) is one of the best films ever made IMHO, it's a pity it didn't receive as much recognition and acclaim as its source material did (Watchmen is universally recognized as one of the best comics series ever written).

I felt like I was dreaming when I read there was going to be a Civil War movie. When I read the series, I thought it would be awesome to see on screen, but I had no idea! I love it! Marvel owns my movie pussy for the next decade.

would be real cool if they could include Spiderman and the cast of the First Xmen movie.

While, I wouldn't call it "one of the best films ever made" (personally), I agree that Watchmen was really underrated.. I recently watched it again and enjoyed it even more than when I saw it in the cinema. It was good an gritty, something that most of the more successful Marvel movies lack.

If you will, so will I

With the exception of Black Panther, which only moderately interests me, these all seem horribly boring. But then, I'm a mutant whore. Give me more X titles and offshoot teams. nod

I think the Hulk would need more exploration on earth before being sent into space but anyway no Hulk at all save in the Avengers. A pity if u ask me, particularly with the Leader's loose-end still in need to be solved sad

Could never make this into a movie, though a mini animated series would be interesting

In the early 80's WB was unsatisfied with the small income provided by DC and considered shutting down the whole company and licencing the characters to Marvel instead. Jim Shooter, then publisher, had to turn their offer down because First Comics, a small publisher, had just sued Marvel for violating anti-trust laws (they were just selling better than anyone else is all) so Marvel's lawyers said that absorbing their main competitors' catalogue wouldn't be a good idea in such a context, and soon after DC started a series of editorial operations that re-established it as a profitable, successful company, so WB gave up on the licencing idea. Had Marvel taken over we may have had many more crossovers and even maybe, who knows, a shared universe.

Did Marvel sell Spiderman, the fantastic 4 and the x men off for good or for just so many years movie wise?

Deal says as long as Fox and Sony keep making movies Marvel can't get the rights back. What they never said is after how many years it is considered they're not making movies, but Daredevil's film was from 2003 and the rights reverted back from Fox to Marvel in 2012 so if it's the same with the X-Men and FF it means 9/10 years. Each deal was cut differently though (Ghost Rider and Punisher reverted back to Marvel much sooner after the last movie was made) so IDK how many years it could be for Spidey and Sony. Only other options would be for Marvel to buy the rights backs but to be profitable for the studio selling them it obviously wouldn't make it profitable for Marvel to buy 'em. So basically the best hope we have that the X-Men, FF and Spidey go back to Marvel is that the films become less and less successful to the point Fox and Sony ain't interested anymore in making films, and I don't see this happening. There are also rumors that Sony is considering shutting their films division down, this could be a key as well.

Another character held by another studio is Namor (Universal). Every other characters once licenced is now back home, and that includes Blade as well.
