The original police report had assault charges filed against both parties. Since she was knocked out, if she assaulted him, it must have been first. Had the genders been reversed, and a woman had knocked out her man after he hit her, no one would consider the woman an abuser.

There's a legitimate difference between abusing someone and getting into a fight with them. The fact that some overly liberal folk can't tell the difference in cases like these implies they don't see woman as full equals to men. Saying a woman can't provoke a man to hurt her is like saying a mentally disabled person can't be held responsible for their actions. Is that really how they want men to view women?

Now, I'm not advocating abuse...men who abuse their wives/girlfriends are scum and should be locked up...but if women think that they can hit a man and he won't hit them back, they're in for a rude shock.

For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man." (I Corinthians 11:8-9)

"Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (I Timothy 2:11-14)

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything." (Ephesians 5:22-24)

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35)

"Give me any plague, but the plague of the heart: and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman."(Eccles. 25:13)

The issue people have with the word "provoke" is that it can be interpreted to mean across the board "do not make him angry". So, you could argue that provoking a man to hit you could be something as minor as burning to toast or something as serious as the woman hitting him first. There are usually few people who interpret the issue of provoking a man to exclude minor offenses such as nagging or forgetting to make his lunch. But, people who have survived domestic violence have often been seriously beaten for "provoking" beatings with minor offenses, not because they had threatened the life of their partner. Make sense?

Yeah, not all men are raised to not hit a woman. So, yeah, a rude shock would happen if she thinks she can hit him or tell him something ugly to the core and not perhaps start a fight that way.

What ticks me off are those who think it's acceptable for women to hit men. I remember some of the dumbass remarks on social media regarding Solange and Jay-Z - "right on girl!", "give it to him!" - what kind of bullshit is that?

How about everyone obeying the law and keeping their fucking hands to themselves?

For all you men on this thread....listen to this. Sometimes, if a woman is already being beaten by a man, she might dare to hit him back. So, that might be what the situation was/is. Again, you all have to realize that there are so many women out there who would love to date a pro athlete they will do anything to get him and keep him. I think there's more to this than what the public is being told.

Suspended over a comment? Really? That's dumb. They are acting like it was Stephen A. who was involved in the domestic dispute. I don't see anything wrong with what he said, nor what Whoopi Goldberg said: WHETHER YOU ARE A MAN OR A WOMAN, KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF! Period. What's so hard to understand about that? How is that opinion blaming a domestic victim? Folks take things too damn literal these days. rolleyes disbelief

yeahthat

That's the almighty dollar talking. Corporations like ESPN always get nervous over this shit because of the public backlash and the possibility of losing sponsors. Yet they hired Stephen A. to give his opinion in the first place.

I still don't understand how this chick still married this guy. I would bet that it wasn't the first time that he's done this to her. He already knows that he's the "star" of the show and can get out of almost any legal situation that he would face. She knows that as well. Maybe she thinks marrying him will guarantee a paycheck for her the rest of her life. There were videos of their wedding shown on an entertainment show but it's not on Youtube. There was someone in the bridal party that made a subtle reference to the scuffle the couple had at the casino. Geez. That's pretty bad when people at your wedding bring up your fight at your wedding!

Yeah, she's looking at these reality shows, fancy cars and being set for life. I don't know what her financial situation was before she met him. But, it seems that she's got a lot more access to money and fame now more than ever. I'm surprised that he even married her because he's still very young and most young athletes don't marry that young. She's got her hooks in him.

I am a woman.

I don't think beating up your girlfriend is right.

However, a ball player is just a guy with an extremely well paying job.

Do we suspend people who have other jobs from going back to work if they abuse their girlfriend? If he were not a ballplayer would anybody even care about what really happened on the elevator?

They are not role models. They are ball players. That is what they know how to do so well that they can make a living off of it. They are no more likely to be role models they men who drive dump trucks or install cable lines. They are just men with jobs that pay extremely well.

Believe it or not, I think part of the reason that there's a suspension for his off-season behavior is that the NFL has aggressively courted female viewers over the past several years. They are making "girly" jerseys now, I have even seen ads for nail polish that are in team colors of NFL teams! Women have always been football fans, so I'm not sure why the NFL is acting so brand new about this. I think it's a ploy to keep women from turning the sport off completely. It's a PR tactic. This so-called tough as nails commissioner doesn't seem to have the same opinion of Ray Rice as he does of the other guys who got into big trouble.

EXACTLY!!! That's why it's puzzling why the NBA is serving with him any kind of punishment for his behavior OUTSIDE of his job. No abusing your spouse is never okay, but is that affecting his performance on the field? No. That's why it's just as dumb that ESPN suspended Stephen A. for his opinionated comment.

If this were a gangmember named "Devante Jenkins" who did this, there would be swift justice. But, if this were a gangmember named "Devante Jenkins" who was a star football player in the NFL, then, he's gets celebrity justice. But, if he ever blows out a knee or gets old, then nobody cares. Under no other circumstances would "Devante Jenkins" get a slap on the wrist...
