True Detective

Is anybody watching this show? Last night's episode is probably one of the best 60 minites of tv I have ever seen. The tension was built up and never let go. The 6 minute one take shot of a botched home invasion and shoot out was amazing. I don't know how they pulled off something with such a large scale. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are killing it. The writing, directing, acting, and cinematography are superb.

I was about to post this! Last episode was absolutely incredible. Not just the climax at the end. His whole undercover mission, the tension of the show in general, even in very slow moments, the actors, the cinematography... Unbelievable.

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

I caught a couple of episodes in the middle of this season and intrigued enough to go back to the beginning and watch so that I can understand it more. Looks like its a good show though. I read somewhere that each season will have a totally different cast with a different case. Interesting.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Well Ginger looks nothing like he does in True Detective. cool He's Joseph Sikora from Shutter Island, Prison Break, Jack Reacher, Boardwalk Empire, etc. He also played in the History Channel's 'Vikings.'

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0797746/

The intro song...

The Handsome Family - Far From Any Road

From the dusty May sun
Her looming shadow grows
Hidden in the branches of the poison creosote
She twines her spines up slowly
Towards the boiling sun
And when i touched her skin
My fingers ran with blood

In the hushing dusk under a swollen silver moon
I came walking with the wind to watch the cactus bloom
And strange hands halted me, the looming shadows danced
I fell down to the thorny brush and felt the trembling hands

When the last light warms the rocks
And the rattlesnakes unfold
Mountain cats will come to drag away your bones

And rise with me forever
Across the silent sand
And the stars will be your eyes
And the wind will be my hands

I can't even begin to describe how brilliant I think this show is. The latest episode was totally unexpected and at the same time totally what should have been expected. And brilliant. This is so good.

I loved how the show played with our expectations of the showdown with Reggie Leduex. I don't think another show or movie has had me so tensed up and riveted for the entire time.

I know. And then the last episode when Matthew was just standing in the light in that abandoned school playing with that twig thing? Gave me the creeps. Can I say how much I love Woody? He can make me love him, hate him, and every other emotion...I really hate him in these last episodes. lol

SPOILER if you haven't seen Ep6!

The "aftermath" of the Rust/Maggy sex scene was masterfully acted! The disbelief and pain in Rust's face was totally believable. worship The ending was great as well. Can't wait for next week. Only two to go...

I agree. I have a brand new respect for Matthew as an actor. But I saw that 'scene' coming from way back. wink

But Woody's/Martin's remark..."Dumb blonds in cracker country??" made me spit lol

I have no idea. But I read on HBO that it may have been The Simple Life (from 2003 I think) with those idiots Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. lol

So any theories on the identity of the Yellow King? hmmm Marty? With his wife as accomplice?

I read a good one today about antlers

The stag is king of the forest

Tuttle was drinking out of a John Deere mug - the logo is a yellow stag

Coincidence? lol

I was disappointed Maggie took such a cheap shot. Not only did I think it beneath her to resort to petty revenge but I thought it particularly cruel to Rust, as if didn't have enough demons.

I was wondering about those antlers Rust had on the table. neutral But I didn't even notice the John Deere mug. Thanks. I watched twice and still didn't catch all the clues. confused

As for Maggie...if I had a husband like Marty I'd probably do the same thing. I mean, he didn't even care about leaving 'cheating' clues all over. Coming home, jumping in the shower, throwing clothes in the washer, pics on the phone. Telling me he loves me while gobbling down pasta. I probably would have put rat poison in it or I'd be so fed up I'd either kill him or screw his partner. razz

I know Rust has demons but it's not like he and Marty are best buds. Maybe she unconsciously blamed Rust...I know I was sick of her just taking it. I was pissed when she took him back in the first place.

I know, <<Shudder.>>

But hey, they showed us Reggie Ledoux at the end of episode three as if he was the "monster at the end of it." And then went and got him, and it was like... that's it? That was the biggest anticliamx of a climactic scene. I guess we already knew that the murders were continuing and they didn't truly get the guy. But somehow the way they handled it, rang true to the reality those cops were facing. We got the bad guy and... now what?

Last night was the first episode that went more or less like I expected it to... Rust shows Marty his storage locker, where he has been tracking the killer for years and they team up again.

Notice how many people have seen or experienced things that drove them crazy, either for a moment, or permanently (that poor girl Kelly, coming out of her decade-long catatonic state just long enough to talk about a tall man with scars before reverting to screaming). I don't know if they are going to go any further with the Yellow King/ Carcosa mythology, but just as a signifier of knowledge with the power to drive people crazy, it's added a lot to this show.
